The annual what do you really want for the holidays?

I’m with @MomofJandL! I begged for a dumpster for years. Surprisingly, it was easier to get DH to renovate the master bath than to order me a dumpster. The silver lining was the renovation required a dumpster, which I promptly filled before demo started! I asked for another one the following Mother’s Day but didn’t get it.

I like the items on your wish list @deb22. I’m a terrible gift getter, too. I think that just means you hope the gift receipt is included? I rarely like gifts that are random. I think the person profusely, but then go exchange it. Every once in awhile someone nails it.

What I’d like this year is a expensive vacuum for our new plush carpet upstairs. The old one is just not cutting it, and I heard you need soft brushes for plush carpet. I think it’s about $500. Haven’t brought it up to DH yet.

I’d also like to try this eye shadow palette. I never purchase expensive palettes, but these colors are up my alley.

Did I ask for a trip to Hawaii?? (Post #19)

I’m making a list on my note app on my iPad that I will forward to my husband. He can share it with the kids. I find with my H specific items and links work best. As much as it takes some of the surprise out of getting a gift it limits returns and hurt feelings.
A few items I have on my list-
Smartwool low profile running socks. I could buy for myself but they are expensive.
New York Times food recipe subscription
https://us.falconenamelware.com/collections/all/products/tumblers?variant=30598500107 These plus matching plates and bowls. My H bought a travel trailer and I’d like these for the trailer.
I also have a pair of Teva sandals on the list

Oops @VeryHappy it was @thumper1 who wants to go to Hawaii.

Should have gone back to make sure

Apparently mixing everyone up today!

Edited because I put @doschicos when it was @VeryHappy.

New ski boots for our big ski trip through the west in February. I also need some new long underwear.

@VeryHappy I want the trip to Hawaii, but if DH doesn’t come through…want to go?

Ummmmmm . . . maybe. I’ve been there already a couple of times, so I’d prefer somewhere else. Alaska, maybe?

@mom60 a NYT Cooking subscription is a great idea for someone who likes to cook - experienced or inexperienced! (I subscribe).

@deb922 I wasn’t dissing on you at all! I hope it didn’t come off that way.

It is fun to see what everyone’s “wishes” are!

There are some nice creams and lotions at TJs that seem nice (now that I have dry skin from all this travel and cold weather).

S is trying to get me to commit to what Surface or iPad I want. I told him I think I will stick with Surface, since it works best with my Microsoft Office software. H and I share one Surface and the unit we currently have is adequate so I’m defering to H who is the tech guru. One Surface for the two of us is enough. If we get a 2nd one, hmmm not sure we need two.

I’d be happy to find a nice thick long-sleeved flannel women’s shirt in solid color, but am not optimistic. The LLBean flannel chamois shirt for women is thick enough but too short and too baggy—hard to keep tucked in. HI has a dearth of options for nice warm clothing and catalogs don’t give me a good feel for the merchandise.

Alternatively, we will save up and buy things when we travel to Europe in 2020!

I am thrilled (and kind of flabbergasted) to say that I am actually GETTING exactly what I want: a trip to Santa Fe with H and all three kids. I don’t want a single 'nother thing. And I am delighted to be spending the next six weeks or so looking forward to it.

I’m not gloating, I’m typing it here as another way of appreciating it.

I think this year H and the DC all understand that this is really, truly the only thing I want. We’ll see.

Oh yeah, want S to register for, take and pass his credential test, please.

To be honest, I don’t want a thing. I have always craved a diamond solitaire necklace and a diamond tennis bracelet but neither is ever going to happen so I have to let it go.
That said, I LOVE giving. I love finding little this and that that perfectly suits each person. My pleasure in the day is their reactions to my gifts.

I’m like @conmama:

“I’m a terrible gift getter, too. I rarely like gifts that are random. I thank the person profusely, but then go exchange it. Every once in awhile someone nails it.”
(maybe someday I’ll figure out how to quote on cc)

We make lists in our family (except dh–he’s not of that ilk) and I don’t like the kids to spend much money on me, particularly as one d is short on cash so I come up modest things. This year that includes a water bottle to my specifications, custom cards with pictures of our dog on them for bridge, a credit card size back up phone charger and possibly a 12 pack of my favorite pilot pens. I’m considering adding this:

I’m on my laptop quite a bit and my wrist feels the impact of the non-ergonomically position when it’s on my lap. Still, I’m not sure I’ll actually use it and I hate the idea of “stuff” in the house that isn’t used.

Big things? There’s really isn’t anything I can think of.

We only do presents for immediate family. My girls get small checks from their aunt and uncle, but that gravy train stops after college graduation (as per the family rule).

I just got to update my 1996 kitchen a bit - new flooring and paint, and a few appliances. Plus getting the rest of the house professionally painted. So I’m good for Christmas, lol. To be fair, my husband begged me to do something about the house because it looked so bedraggled. I didn’t want to spend the money but now that I did I absolutely love it.

We usually “float” a Christmas present to each other. Last year he got a new garage door (that he really wanted!) in the summer that was his present.

There’s usually a little something under the tree to unwrap. Most times I buy something and give it to him to give to me lol.

I want some time off without a bazillion work emails to respond to when I return! I have several projects waiting on me at home that I would love to complete in that time off.

@HarrietMWelsch , you are not gloating that you are getting what you want! You are sharing among friends! I agree thatvtime together as a family is the best gift of all.

My boys, mid 20’s now, have just started buying gifts for DH and I at Xmas. I’ve never written a list for them. I don’t want them them to spend money they don’t have, and a list would be perfect to give. But it seems odd to all of a sudden give one. How to do that? Maybe just email and say, “listen kids, I know you are just starting out/in college. Dad and I don’t want you spending tons of money, so I’ve made a list and here’s a few things to choose from”? I don’t know.

Get yourself some good fakes and enjoy them! Nobody is going to know with a good quality fake these days. Plus, diamond prices are artificially inflated and a big scam, really.

My list: Hamilton tickets plus a ping-pong table.

I found cheap airfare and hotel for our family to go to NYC after Christmas, and we will get half-price show tickets from the TKTS booth and take whatever. But - I really, really want to see Hamilton, and finally got my H to agree to buying full-price tickets ahead of time. My birthday and Christmas gifts combined.

And S16 and I discovered when visiting my mom’s senior center that we love playing ping pong together. Seems like a nice destresser/bonding thing, especially going into college app season. Buying the table is not really the issue - it is the fact that H will have to clean up and reorganize the disaster that is one side of the garage.

@SammoJ, an outdoor pingpong table was our whole-family gift a couple of years ago and we love it and use it constantly.

It folds up and rolls into the garage for the actual snowy months, but even now we can sometimes get in a game in the late afternoon.
