I just bought my first gift inspired by this thread. DS2 had mentioned he wanted a weighted blanket for his birthday. We gave him money for his birthday to choose what he wanted. He decided it was too expensive and bought other things. So I bought it fir him for Xmas. I had never heard of them before.
He’s always, always had trouble falling asleep. In college he started taking melatonin, which I told him wasn’t a good idea and the reasons why. He slept under one of these blankets at some point and really felt it helped. Why he didn’t just buy it, I don’t know.
My D to be happy with her college options. Really - don’t want more stuff, would rather start getting rid of stuff. How did we get all this junk in the house?
I always ask the kids for a list, and they ask for mine.
Like Deb, I’d like an everyday necklace , diamonds by the yard. Since the
Diamonds are so small, CCs would be fine. There is a Kendra Scott store nearby, so I could check there. Thx for the suggestion, Deb
I’d like to, upgrade my Apple 6 phone and have a watch, but can wait until I see where son works.
I want to replace my ipad mini (first generation) with a new one. The old one works fine as an e-reader but is no longer supported and hard to use with newer apps or on the internet.
We have the big ping pong table from when the kids were young that doesn’t get used anymore. I bought my H a mini ping pong table for his birthday a few years ago. It fits in the closet and it’s fun to bring out when we have guests.
Funny about the talk of diamond necklaces- last night I went to a. Loving away party for a friend. She has remarried and we all noticed her upgrade in jewelry. She had two necklaces on, one a diamond solitaire and the other a chain with small diamonds every few inches. The solitaire isn’t my style but I’d love the one with the small interspersed diamonds.
I like to give my kids a list with inexpensive items on it. They want to buy me something and I’d rather they buy me something I’d like that isn’t expensive. Smartwool socks and cookbooks are great for that.
I’d really like to take a big trip with my children and their significant others. I keep telling my H we need to do it before any babies come along.
Health, help (with the heavy lifting sorts of projects, inside and out,) and a condo in coastal Maine (the right amazing cost deal or friends who give me a key to their place.)
A suggestion for anyone who wants to give their kids a list of inexpensive things-make an amazon wish list! You won’t be able to see what they order as you just share it with them and it doesn’t show any changes in the list to the person who made it. I did this last year and it worked out perfectly!
Our family just does emails with links including color and size preferences as not everything is available on Amazon. I always include coupon codes and such as well.
Except I try to avoid Amazon and shop local when at all possible. I will send links to specifics, but I try to be open to what they want to buy, unless there is something very specific I want.
Same thing I didn’t get for Mother’s Day–I want my teenage daughter to stop bickering with me! ( I have to go my room to get away from her. Fortunately she is a senior and will be leaving for college in Aug.)
And I want a clean house, lots of Christmas cookies, nice meals, decorations, etc. I want someone else to make Christmas for me so I can enjoy a holiday for a change.
I want that leaky roof fixed.
Probably not getting any of those things, so I’ll settle for a winning lottery ticket.
@SammoJ , ours is a Cornilleau - not the exact model in the list below, but close. We fell in love with one at a summer rental, and decided we needed one at home.
D1 asked me what I wanted for xmas, I said a wine fridge. She said what’s wrong with the one you have. I said it is not working that well now and I also want one for 24+ bottles. She said why do you want a 24+ bottle wine fridge!!
I really don’t have that many wants nowadays. Wine fridge was the best I could come up with.
Next year is going to be one of my milestone birthdays. D1 said we are going to Hawaii. I said I am assuming you are taking me. She said yes and all four of us are going (her husband, D1, D2, and me). We will be going to our favorite island, Kauai.
Not holidays, but December birthdays. I asked outright for a “together weekend”, but the kids weren’t able to schedule anything. I know it’s hard to coordinate schedules, especially with job changes and new jobs, but I’m still disappointed. (Should this actually be on the Say it Here thread?)
@College1 custom bridge cards!! How fun!! Maybe next year I can give double decks to all of my bridge ladies.
As my name suggests, I love silver. I will probable be getting several pieces of sterling. My preferences are English Georgian silver and ornate US sterling. The more ornate or unusual the piece, the better. There is a spoon that I have my eye on, and I would really like an English Mustard pot, as I don’t have one. I also collect souvenir spoons from the 1904 World’s Fair, so receiving one that I don’t have would be special.
Tickets to Hamilton. Preferably with a time machine!
I did figure out why my son wanted noise canceling headphones for podcast listening when he was commuting around NYC. I only go in one day a week so probably won’t ask for them.
