I still have all of the testing records and grade reports for my kids, 28 & 32. I need to scan some of that stuff in and shred it - someday! D is getting married at the end of June, so purging isn’t a priority right now:)

I scan all their stuff and keep it on a thumb drive-one for each kid. Eventually I’ll just be able to hand them the thumb drive when they move out on their own.
I set up an hour a month for scanning stuff since it’s otherwise overwhelming. I set a timer and just do it until the timer goes off. It’s the best way for me not to procrastinate with stuff that is boring to do.
Finished cleaning out and reorganizing 2 linen closets and a blanket chest today! <:-P
^applause
Cleaned my closet and drawers and have 3 large grocery bags full.
Made a rule that nothing that came into the house the last couple of week’s from FIL’s house gets put away or stashed anywhere until we make room for it by throwing junk out of the basement and garage that has been there for 18 years. We’ll see if the rule sticks, but it’s worth a try.
If we count what got hauled out of FIL’s house in the last 4 weeks, I’m caught up with bag-a-week until 2025. Enjoyed almost every minute of it.
With taxes done all my paperwork is organized in a binder. Gave several bags of clothes to a thrift store.
Gave my niece some of my daughters old books, travel suitcase, and a homecoming dress.
I have an old canister set that I have been trying to find a home for. It matches my sisters teal blue themed kitchen appliances so she gets that. I can actually see empty areas of my walking closet. Feels good.
Does your walking closet follow you around yelling “Empty me!”?
^^Mine just yells “clean me, for god’s sake, woman!”
Last big piece of downstairs remodel almost done. Kitchen empty and nothing going back that is not used. Lookin g forward to several boxes/bags to go. Also just did a winter clean of my closet and got rid of anything not worn in last 2 winters. 2 more bags
My closet whispers in a cruel voice, “You know that is never going to fit again…”
That’s a mean closet!
Mine just says “Oh NO, Mr. Bill !”
My closet doesn’t say anything to me. My mind gets cluttered when I see things in the closet I don’t use and need to get rid off. My closet is 50% empty. I like seeing everything inside without having to search for it. It is nice to know where everything exactly is. Now if I can only part with some of the clothes that I hoped I would lose weight and fit into. Maybe one day.
I went to dinner last weekend at some friends’ home. Nice people, wonderful family. That can’t throw ANYTHING away. I want to go around their home and just toss one, just one, bag of stuff.
I broke a glass when I was there. Felt bad about it, but nothing I could do. Their son asked “Should be SAVE it?” It was not repairable, but he wanted to keep the broken pieces. They throw nothing out.
Gads! Sad.
Now in the trunk–3 large trash bags and 6 grocery bags.
After S and family visit this weekend there is going to be a purge. Time for him to take his childhood toys and
G’son to enjoy.
Ok–anyone here?
The entire front porch is filled and waiting for Viet Vets.
H helped and then after he went to bed I put out all of the stuff he either said “maybe” or does not care to
know about such as linens.
Feels so good!
@oregon101: Congratulations! It’s almost like losing a little weight and discovering your pants fit better!
I’ve been pretty consistently bringing at least one bag a week to Goodwill. The girls are working on their closets this week and one has a bag half full, and one is battling me on it. Ironically, it’s the messy one that’s having no problem filling up her bag with clothes that don’t fit or are worn out. The tidy one likes to hold onto stuff, but she’s running out of spaces to squirrel it away.
We started tackling the garage last weekend. First task, all the sports stuff. We threw out deflated, ragged soccer and basketballs, mud-caked cleats. We have bikes, bats, racquets to bring to Goodwill, unless anyone has a better idea. DH gets nostalgic though when it comes to baseball gloves. He tells me it’s a guy thing and I wouldn’t understand.
Inspired by the retro kitchen thread, I hunted down some stuff to donate to Goodwill: tablecloths I never used, wine openers that we dont’t use, and bar kits. I am not into shaken not stirred kind of stuff.
Plus, a bunch of glass jars went into recycling, and a bunch of stuff got chucked. Feels good.
@shellfell, there are sometimes local organizations that collect used sports equipment for low-income kids to use, but I don’t know how you would find such a group in your area. There’s always the google, of course.
