The "Bag A Week" Club

I’m almost done in my other S’s bedroom. Two large bags of garbage and a bag to donate. I predict some shocked faces when they next return home…

3 grocery bags of different glasses from the cabinet. H dropped them off and did not go through them.
Looked at a condo that is 1/2 the size of our house and I think is “getting it”.
I am in the middle of purging my closet yet again. So many really nice things I have outgrown
:(( . I told myself I had a year for some and 6 month for others and now is the time to let go.
Should I be that size again I will deserve to buy anything I want for a long time.
I am taking the good things to a resale hope that supports the library and a small art center.

I’m definitely on a big roll. We had new rugs put in living room and master bedroom. Since EVERYTHING had to come out it’s been much easier to simply not put it back in! Lots of stuff being discarded.

^ We are about to replace the family room carpet. I’m thinking of boxing the CDs and DVDs and not putting them or the massive bookshelves back. The more I clean and reorganize, the more I’m liking the streamlined look with less visible “stuff”.

D and SIL took a some throw pillows and placemats.
That leaves another trunk load be dropped off.
We are going to tackle one of the very frightening file drawers one
file each at a time.

@psychmomma – I did get rid of one bookshelf at least. And got rid of CD/DVD holder unit.

Cleaned out a linen closet - including donating a very heavy down comforter. It’s super nice but we don’t need it and opened up some serious square footage in a closet! Also donated some shoes, glassware and pillow cases. A full trunk!

My sons will faint when they see their rooms! I keep walking in there just to giggle! Today I start on basement things. There is so much- file cabinets, Christmas, Halloween, Easter… memorabilia… old financial and house records… every piece of paper the kids ever wrote or drew on. H impulsively started on his own purge project, office files, yesterday. Our garage now houses 80 bankers boxes of junk that he needs to look through and pitch. They are out of the basement which is the first big step!

You’re on a roll, @psychmomma! Kudos!

Omg- I’ve been reading stories and assignments the kids wrote in 3rd grade. Some I remember, some I don’t. Their final memory boxes are going to be so full of cool stuff! Also, two large bags of garbage out.

Don’t get stuck on memory boxes! Go to boring stuff–like old bills (unless they’re 50 years old and you sit and marvel at the cheap prices…)

I really am intrigued by the September Sweep @doschicos posted. I signed up to get the emails. Starts September 10 for 15 days. Will hope to be able to accomplish at least half the days. I hope they are generally quick jobs because I have limited time to focus on a cleaning task outside of what I normally have to do during the work week.

Maybe I’ll start a separate thread for September Sweep in case anyone else is interested.

After signing up I got a confirmation email - looks like “bite-sized” tasks I can handle!

"Starting Monday, September 10th (and lasting for 15 weekdays), we’ll send easy, super doable assignments straight to your inbox. These bite-sized tasks are designed to make your home a tidier place, one small step at a time.

We believe that spreading out the work makes the decluttering mission a whole lot easier (and more fun!) to tackle, and we’re so glad you’re taking this journey with us."

@abasket I am also signed up. It’s not going to clean up/out the whole house, obviously, but I see any task as a step in the right direction. I’ll be gone some of the days so I’ll skip those or just do them upon my return.

I’m a big fan of doing onerous tasks in bite-sized chunks. I do most of my home stuff that way setting a timer. I find it more workable for me.

Ok, I signed up. It will be interesting to see what the tasks are.

@gouf78 - lol - yes, I shouldn’t get bogged down in the memorabilia, but I just finished two bedrooms top to bottom, including junk mail, bills, and paperwork. So I’m going through necessary papers that are more fun. I’ve also shredded 20 years of my parents’ checks, registers, and bills over the summer so welcome this more interesting tangent. You would approve anyway- I’ve been skimming and tossing in large containers. I can really look at those things in detail when … the whole house is done? We retire? Not now, that’s for sure.

I signed up and passed info on to one of my kids.
I was searching for a photo for my S and realized that I need to do something about my photo albums, boxes of leftover photos and negatives. Over the years things have become mixed together and I have jumbled many different years in the same box. It’s going to be a job.

I will start a separate thread (or one of you feel free!) when we get our first email to get started - ok?? A thread just for the September Sweep - and then this one should keep going like usual!

My D texted me that no more subscribers are being taken for the September sweep challenge. @abasket should get a kick back for promotional work from them.

I signed up
My house looks completely uncluttered. It is all of the drawers and a few closets.
H walked in and asked if I was cleaning cupboards today. Yep, but the stuff is going out not back.
Have a pick up by Vietnam vets Friday which is a great motivator.
I told H that I am acting as if we are moving in a month.

Haha - it was @doschicos who brought it up first!!! I wonder why they had to limit subscribers???
