@mom60 I’m wondering if that’s your daughter’s way of telling you she isn’t interested. After I saw your message, I went in and signed up with another email address I have. It worked, no problem. Got a confirmation as well. :-??
Well the porch is full and I almost made it out and then H saw the really super ugly
table runner he brought back from a trip. D said no. I just cannot ( I dislike but have used the
not so awful placemats he brought). H was crushed and said he would give it to someone @-) .
Gotta go back to doing it when he is asleep and putting the bags in my trunk.
He thinks everything is valuable. He did pick up and discuss the badly painted plate his grandmother
(who he was not close to at all) painted. It looked like a fun hobby. His mother passed it to him and it has
never been used in 25 years. H said he thought maybe someone would buy it
But did put it back
in the bag when I said even D did not want it.
I can relate, @oregon101. My H will comment on the most worthless things and want to keep them to give to a kid or other relative. All of our kids live simplified lives and don’t want any extra clutter. He might lament the “worth” of something that seriously was $7 to buy new, and has been used for 20 years. He will randomly suggest that we should keep these things for a garage sale, while also remembering our garage sales were tons of work for a relatively small return. I donated four big bags today and was thrilled he didn’t have a chance to rummage through them for treasures.
An auctioneer came by and took some furniture from MIL’s house earlier this week. It’s popular mid-century style, sturdy but tired. DH isn’t so much interested in getting money for it as just making it go away without us having to either coordinate movers or haul it ourselves.
Another big win is the buyers are happy to get the bookcases that we didn’t want to deal with moving – purge points without doing a thing!
Closing on MIL’s house this afternoon. Holding my breath until then.
On our home front, I’m taking three handbags to a consignment shop today. To make room for the one I ordered. Net gain, two bags’ worth of cubic footage. Baby steps.
Re: September Sweep my D also said she tried to sign up and received an “all full!” message - she asked me if I would forward my daily emails to her - so I think she indeed wanted to sign up!
Though she did say maybe this was an indication that she should continue to live as a slob.
@oregon101 my DH is the same way - I was cleaning off a shelf in the garage this weekend and found some old belt buckles that he kept from a tenant who abandoned them. They were garbage and they have been living in my garage for years so I tossed them. Wouldn’t you know it - he peeked in the dumpster on the way to the curb! I was busted and he was mad - said he was going to use them “someday”. I guess I need to be sneakier too.
I’ve finally gone through my closets and am donating my corporate clothes. I haven’t worked in a corporate environment since 2012, and I’m about to turn 70, so the likelihood of my ever doing so again is slim. I’m going to donate them to Dress for Success, an organization that does a lot of good for women who need professional clothes.
I’m sad, though – in the pile is a Brooks Brothers skirt and a Pendleton skirt, both in excellent condition. And no, I have absolutely no use for them, ever again.
@mom60 I just signed up for the September Sweep with no problems. I got the email welcoming me to the sweep.
I can’t think why they would be limited in the number of emails they could send out to those that sign up. As far as campaigns go, the more the merrier, right?
I have a box of vhs tapes to get rid of- the kind that someone taped tv shows on. Not sure how to get rid of them.
Garbage. No one will take used VHS tapes. Sadly, this is what we did with our tapes. Two trashacans worth of TV shows Mr. recorded to watch later. We probably had the entire ER on them, lol.
Inspired by the eyebrow thread, I’ve been purging my bathroom closet. I have waxing kits, hair highlighting kit, and lots,of stuff I haven’t used since I lost so much body hair.
There is a hairdryer bought for Europe trip some 35 years ago. Am I right to think there is far better stuff on the market?
Do you use the 5 year old hair dryer? If so, keep it. No need to spend $ on a new one if it works for you, IMO. If you don’t use it, get rid of it because you don’t need it.
It’s not my everyday hairdryer, one I used years ago in Europe.
Anybody remember Epilady?
^^ oh ouch! Yes!!
I filled the garbage can and almost filled the recycling bin in the past three days.
H is on a roll. Another 50 boxes moved into the garage. You will hear squeals of joy around the world when he actually goes through them and gets them out of here!
The result of his work is that I can now see what boxes are left that fall under my jurisdiction- kids toys, old clothes, bedding, memorabilia, Halloween, Christmas, off-season, etc. I started moving the boxes around and looking inside so I have a better idea of what I’m dealing with. I can see at least three boxes that can go straight to donation.
Meanwhile, I did fill two garbage bags of trash to go out tonight.
I think Hurricane Florence might mean I throw away a ton of stuff before the storm even hits. :((
I’m watching a documentary called Minimalism - on Netflix. I think it will provide some additional motivation during my whole house purge.
It didn’t fit in a bag, but MIL’s house is sold! DH happily began turning his attention to carving back cubic feet of our own home. He burned a bunch of MIL’s old documents for starters.
