There are companies that will make tshirt quilts for you - I’ll bet you could even find someone local to do it. Speaking of Kondo “joy”, I’ll bet it would give you lots of joy each time you put that tshirt quilt on your lap!!!
I watched another episode of Kondo last night. Clothes seems to be an overwhelming problem for all the episodes so far - So.Many.Clothes!!! Mountains on beds when they are all gathered!!!
I had two big bags of T-shirts I’d saved for a quilt which was never going to get made. I took photos of them for a picture collage instead (so many memories!) and hauled them off.
When I used Marie Kondos system of folding clothes I ended up with more space even without much culling. Plus I can find things in a flash without digging. Life changer. Need to watch the show.
Perhaps we should start another thread about it?
Sorted through kiddo’ boxes that I have not touched since the move. Omg - why did we bring in a box with her HS stuff? Graded papers and scratch papers? Off into the recycling bin all of it went! Don’t even mention it to her.
@gouf78 - go for it! Start another thread and there might be interest outside of “bag a day” people. It’s certainly a show being talked about in real life, media, etc.
I just watched a video about the Marie Kondos folding method. My husband does the laundry - I’d like to see his face if I told him to stroke the clothes and communicate his affection to them. (The method looks good though).
watched the video and redid my underwear drawer - it is a much better method for underwear (did not communicate affection to my panties while I folded them)
I have brought a shopping bag of books to my gym the last two days. I’m going to try to keep that up till I make a dent in the huge amount of books in my house. Many are just paperback books that people have passed on to us.
I filled a bag to donate from my dresser today. I’m hoping I won’t be sorry later, but I haven’t worn that size in over a year (yay, down 30), so I’m passing them on.
I have two containers in my closet that are next up- I remember keeping things last year that I now know I won’t wear again.
Phew… I finally tidied the library!!! Two giant boxes of paper went into recycling bin, two plastic bins into storage, and a few neatly stacked boxes with CDs are waiting their turn. Now I can buy a rug and a couple of couches for the room!
My closet is looking good. H is getting jealous. Emptied 4 out-of-season containers and bagged almost all of it. I can’t stand to be hot and rarely wear sweaters now. Off they go. I found pants with tags in a style and brand I like, so those were given a temporary stay. I need to see how the health initiative goes this year. If they are still too big next fall, they will go.
Although I like MK’s process, I like jumping around and not going in her precise order. Maybe because I’ve gone through it before and already have a good idea of what is still lurking around the house.
Today i will be ruthless with my sock drawer. I wear low cut/no show socks 90% of the time so my drawer should reflect that.
The one area that I’m really happy with is my shoes. Once I decided to only buy 100% comfortable shoes and nothing higher than maybe 1 1/2 inches, as well as purge everything else, I love every pair of shoes and sandals I own.
This is a really good statement:
“Today i will be ruthless with my sock drawer. I wear low cut/no show socks 90% of the time so my drawer should reflect that”
You are right and this can apply to many things. Not a sweater person? Then you don’t need 10 of them. Flip flops hurt your feet? Get rid of all but one to wear in the gym shower.
^ More than half of my socks are now gone and I may get rid of the rest because I’m in the white sock mood- wanting all the same color/style for ease of choosing each morning. I kept some of the wool ones for hiking and being outside when winter is brutal, and two pairs of nylon knee highs because I’m secretly an old lady. Lol.
I checked my purse/bra/undie drawers too, and they only hold necessary items. Nice to do something that doesn’t constantly need redoing.
My home office ends up being the holiday dump area. Today I cleaned it out. Put away paper, etc for next year, discarded boxes saved “just in case” and made my way to a crate that had all my old scouting ideas, torn out craft ideas, games, etc. I haven’t led a scout troop in 12 years and I had already donated everything useful when DD graduated. 2 more bags out the door.
We made a major move right at a year ago and went from the midwest to the west coast. H and I were working full time up until the day before we packed the truck, so while we sorted out and got rid of things as best we could, we still moved boxes that were full of stuff that should have been tossed. I went through 4-5 of those boxes today, consolidated and tossed stuff. I now have an empty box and two walmart size bags in the garbage.
There are still maybe 10 boxes of “my” stuff as well as an equal amount of H’s stuff. I am going to try hard to motivate H to go through his own boxes. He did do 1 today.
