@bajamm tell me how to motivate the H! Mine wants to get things cleared out in theory but in practice, not so much.
@orangepurple my H gets anxious when I start going through his stuff. So, if his stuff needs taken care of I just tell him that he needs to do it by X time and if it isnāt done by then then I will do it. He knows am ruthless and donāt mind tossing stuff, so he will eventually do it.
@bajamm once I have finished the rest of the house, maybe I should try that with my husband >:)
I Actually went through my sock drawer tonight and unrolled them and folded them like Marie Kondo said to in her video (not too much in the way of striking them or thanking them though). They do actually take less space which surprised me. I also was inspired by some posts a few back and got rid of a bunch of long white socks that no one in the house wears or has for years. My sock drawer is actually closed for the first time in a long time.
Filled up another black sack. My one thing a day usually turns into several and itās usually right when Iām about to go to bed and being tired makes me pretty ruthless.
@swimcatsmom: Sounds like your bedroom is going to get cleaned up first. Thatās not a bad place to start. Just imagine how peaceful you will feel when you go to bed in a clean room!
Brought another bag of books to my gym today. Third bag this week.
Cleared some more paper last night! OMG, someone put a box of papers in the wine room. Noooo!!! Took it out, sorted through, and tossed 2/3 of them.
@mom60, did I miss this - how does your gym use your books??
@BunsenBurner you have a wine room? Iād never get any decluttering done
On the other hand, maybe Iād get a lot.
Hereās one of my new methods for participating in the bag-a-week club. When I am on the phone, my dog gets annoyed, and she expresses her annoyance by picking up random items and chewing on them. She did so this evening, and broke three or four things, which I then threw away.
@swimcatsmom - yeah, some days, it is very tempting. But I give Mr a glass and that distracts him from peeking into the piles destined for the recycling bin.
I havenāt bought into the Kondo Method yet, but have been working on the hidden clutter in closets and built-in cabinets for the past year (on and off). A big charity donation went away today: main linen closet was pared down to what we actually use, holiday decor that we didnāt use this year was donated. Outdated media was trashed or donated (so many bootleg cassette tapes!) The āout of sight out of mind stuff.ā
Mr. B was hanging on to old floppy disks! I asked what on earth could be so important on them that we need to keep them after 30 years of not touching them. Trash!!! Cut up with kitchen shears and gone. I am getting sick of the tchotchkes and mementos.
Truth be told, I did keep some media that I have no idea whatās been recorded on. Our local public library has a digital memory lab that Iām hoping to utilize soon. LA Law episodes on VHS, bye-bye. Birth of the kiddos, etc., Iād like to convert to a digital format.
@BunsenBurner floppy disks long gone!
I have old discs too with no clue whatās on them but no matter what it is Iām sure Amazon or some other entity has all the info now
@abasket they have a bookcase in the lobby. Members can donate or take books home. It originally was in the senior resource area but itās how in the general lobby. Iām surprised at how fast the books I brought the first day were taken. I noticed one woman from my Pilates class take home three of the books I brought.
Filled a black trash bag this evening. Mixture of things including several pairs of Hās pants that he hasnāt worn in yearsā(decades?) and a suit in a dry cleaning bag with a 1999 date in it. Made him try em on and chucked everything that didnāt fit. He said he was saving the suit to be buried in and I told him I wasnāt burying him in a suit, I was burying him in his overalls. (He hates to wear suits)
Iām on such a roll - almost wish we werenāt leaving town for a week and a half (not really - itās our sonās wedding)
Have fun at the wedding!!
Those disks in Mr.'s stash probably had backup data of his work files back in the days⦠No digital photos back when we used those floppies. Our first digital camera was a 1 Megapixel AGFA. Yay!! 1997, I think? No regrets about tossing those disks - they well predate the camera.
Hereās another place to declutter: Your spice drawer. I was looking for something in there last night and realized I have some things in there I needed for one recipe decades ago and never used again. Itās not saving a ton of space, but it does look better.
Enjoy the wedding @swimcatsmom !!! Youāll pick right back up when you get back!
@VeryHappy itās not about how much you remove, itās about how the remaining inventory works for you.
