Got rid of several coffee mugs last week on Buy Nothing. Today I cleaned a bathroom vanity, threw a bunch of stuff away and posted two items on BN. There are people interested in both so they will be going.

I ended up posting three items on BN and all are being picked up today. Just posted 4 more items. Dropped a few more books off in one of the neighborhood LFL’s yesterday. And someone in our BN group is collecting old socks, so time to clean out the sock drawer.

We are getting a new patio dining set today.
The old one is 12 years old, and has seen better days, but is still completely functional. I posted it in our neighborhood group and had 2 people interested within 30 minutes. I almost didn’t bother posting it - I was going to call the county for large item pickup. I HOPE one of them actually takes it, and it doesn’t go to the landfill.

When I’m giving something - especially for free - I pretty much only insist on giving to the person who can pick up that day. When push comes to shove, most can make it happen. And face it, many pick ups are impulse pick ups - if I say yes to someone who wants to pick up on a few days they often seem to back out.

The deck furniture guy had to get his neighbor to help/use his truck, so I’m fine waiting til Friday. BUT, it did occur to me to say if you could pick it up before the new furniture came you could have first dibs :). Then I looked it up and Costco delivery won’t take it away, so a couple of days won’t matter.

Cleaned out a kitchen cabinet and put some paper/ plastic plates, disposable cups, plastic cutlery on Buy Nothing. Already have people interested.

We had six Mexican sombreros from Margaritas in the garage (must have been there for a dozen years at least!). With Cinco De Mayo approaching, figured someone might want them. And they did - so that’s gone!!
We had a papasan chair sitting in the garage for over a year. The pest control guy who stopped by loved it - told him to come back over the weekend and pick it up. One more thing out of the house

I have an insane number of grocery bags in my car that I have to clean out/throw out. Some are from my daughter’s orthodontist, and she’s been out of braces for almost 15 years! I think some can be retired (to the trash can) and I’ll just pick my favorites to keep.
Part of the problem is my brother doesn’t understand the concept of ‘reusable’ and keeps coming home from walmart with 15 new bags, so I recuse those from him tossing them, and it adds to my Bag of Bags problem.

Do you know someone who is having a garage sale or a church that has an annual rummage sale? They’d love to have your bags to pack up the things people buy.

A friend who owns a laundromat (that has a community ‘take what you need’ table) did fill out many bags when we helped another friend move and then did it again when I moved. She’s gone to Alaska for 6 weeks so I need to find another packer. Some of these bags just have to be retired to the trash. They’ve had a good life.

Here food banks will gladly take paper grocery bags and reusable bags. No plastic ones.

Plastic bags no longer allowed in Colorado, so most of us are hording the ones we have. The only businesses I know that still use them are food take out/delivery, and those often aren’t useable. And they are made of a different type of ‘plastic.’
I promise I’ll find a place for those reuseable bags that still have life, but more than a few are very worn and have rips. My mother asked me to sew/repair one, and I just looked at her like “are you kidding me?” I still have them because ‘they are fine for me…’ or ‘one more grocery store trip…’ I have filled a lot with donations for the thrift stores and then they get to keep the bags and try to resell.

More stuff I gave away on Buy Nothing: 8 wineglasses, some beach towels, a bathroom scale ( I had two).
A woman in my neighborhood is collecting eyeglasses so I rounded up all of the glasses H had ( prescription and “ cheaters”) to drop off.
I have three boxes of stuff ready to be either dropped off at the local ARC store or have picked up.

Placed in the “take to Goodwill donation box” in the garage today: crockpot by Allclad (don’t seem to use it after buying IP), a bunch of kabob skewers and other bbq things, various shots glasses (we don’t drink hard liquor), decorative plates, and some clothes in very good condition but I got tired of them. As soon as the box is filled, we take it to goodwill!
