The Bangladeshi Thread

The last part is entirely your wish.

its not my wish, its my fate…ok i knw i shud stop being pessimistic!

Quite unrelated, but what do you guys want to do when you’re older (ready to work etc.)? And also, what are your views on how the poverty in our country can be subdued? If it’s part of your college essay you don’t have to answer or anything… I’m just curious because as a Bengali living in the US I feel somewhat responsible for the pathetic state of affairs in BD… of course I was wondering if any other Bengalis felt the same way…
I am guessing the situation would be different since you guys live much different lives than I do but I’m very curious! I have lived in BD only for 4 yrs in my whole life so I would not know much.

Just think… if we were not an LDC, we would get into college so much more easily, not having to ask for any FA. Hell we wouldn’t even have to go abroad to study.

Also, what are your views on why our country has such a poor economy? Do you think its history? Climate? I want to know the views that you currently hold so I can compare them with my own and explain any differences…

I plan to come back to this country after my education. I have no intention of permanently settling anywhere abroad.

I have no clue what career I might pursue. Physics in my intended major and other areas of interests includes CS, math and finance.

I think the fault is ours that we still have to put up with all the corruption and injustice that exists in our society. We can’t blame politicians because they are on the throne with our votes. Education is the major problem. Close seconds would be lack of infrastructure and environmental degradation.

Equuleus what do you plan to do after your education is over? Come back to BD or stay where you are now?

I have no clue what I will do… I want to be a mathematician/scientist, but those careers are poorly subsidized in BD. The 2012 presidential election may at least decide whether the US is an option. If the Republicans win then I am leaving this country for good… might go to Canada where they actually have universal welfare benefits but I would need a PhD and lots of scientific credentials for getting a work visa there.

I do not know how intelligent our country’s politicians really are… I would be glad if they still knew calculus :P. I don’t blame them for anything, but I won’t give them credit for much either. They aren’t really people you look up to.

What do you reckon the solutions could be?

Create a revolution like Middle East (Y)

Math is cool! You can go to fields like finance, investment banking, theoretical physics and what not!

Hello. I’m from Chittagong, done with my A levels and thinking of applying to MIT and Princeton.

Welcome Fardin!

Best of luck applying to those schools.
I wonder where is arif and mayisha.

So have you guys finished the applications? As international students, do you know if we fill out the financial aid forms before or after the January 1st deadline (the regular application deadline for most schools)?

I have heard that we need to fill out the international student financial aid request form, but I am not sure when this needs to be done.

The deadline for submitting the CSS profile is 15 Jan for most schools. Doesn’t it mean that we can submit it after our application?

And have you guys sent in your SAT scores? I sent mine to 3 colleges almost a week back, and I didn’t get any confirmation that they got them. I am kinda worried about other schools as well now. CB sucks.

Don’t worry eatyoualive, they sent mine within a week of requesting, so just keep checking the site.
@DarthSpawnus: I finished my transcripts, it would be great if you could just check on them and see if they are ok; I sent u a mail with them, hope u don’t mind  Also, our schools followed the trimester system, so I don’t really have enough space to write in my O’Level & A’Level grades and marks. Should I upload my O’Level & A’Level attested certificates along with my transcript on the counselor portion?

Sorry, another question: is it necessary to include the marks obtained in the school courses, O’Level and A’Level marks for transcripts? Just the grades should do, right?

Yup! Marks are unnecessary.
For instance I asked my higher sec school counselor not to attach mark sheet as everyone gets 90%+ so colleges are going to assume our school’s grades are inflated.

if you attach marks make sure it works to your advantage.

O and A Level grade sheets go with the International supplement.

@ Equuleus: aren’t you an US resident/citizen?

Why would you need International Student Fin Aid App?

Each college has its own Fin Aid policy. Some have CSS. Some have ISFAA while others have their own forms.

@ Eatyoualive: I plan to attach all fin aid docs with my school transcripts. Because most schools I am applying requires authentic notarized tax returns and wage statements so the best thing to do is send hard copies with other docs to save cost. I don’t have anything to send in Feb.

Okay phew … disregard my mail then… sorry :stuck_out_tongue:
So the O’ & A’Level attested certificates go with the International Supplement…I saw on the UCLA website that you’ll have to request official Certifying Statements of Results from each examining board for all GCSE/IGCSE/O-level and GCE A-level examinations, along with transcript … whats that about?

I have a friend in UCSD and he told me that just like Collegeboard sends SAT scores, Edexcel/CIE should send your O and A Level results to the universities if you are accepted.
I asked him about your case and he said that the school simply attested the official certificates along with his transcripts.

If in doubt, mail them!

Hmm that’s what I figured … there’s an application for sending results on Edexcel’s website… but it’s after I get accepted, so I’ll see then… btw, thanx a ton! U should totally be a college counselor dude!!
