The Bangladeshi Thread

Right now you can’t really make anything in that department. Show what you have and make sure you present them in a good way. Average Bangladeshis have very few ECs. But those that get into HYPMS every year , well they are in a different league.

Just out of curiosity… which essay prompt are you guys picking? I decided to do the ethical dilemma (1st prompt).

Topic of your own choice

More space to spread out

Topic of your choice.

an issue of personal/international concern, but its somehow getting controversial.

Is everyone busy writing essays? This thread is kinda dead now.

Lol the first wave of ED just came to my school… for Ivy leagues… all rejected. I didn’t apply ED though so yet to see what happens to me.

^ that is sad. Although predictable. What about the likes of Purdue and EA elsewhere? My school had only one ED applicant, and her decision didnt come yet.

Us internationals don’t apply EA because finanial aid for international students are very restricted in the EA round. So all hell is going to break loose in March :p

Does any of you know the IMO contesants this year from BD? I really wonder what school they are from… how they study for it etc. It would be the greatest EC on an application, and I envy them for it.

@maisha,this are the common things most bd student put on their ec: debate club, math, physics, chemistry, astro Olympia, and other kind of Olympiad ,quiz club, science fair, music, any kind of spots if you play, but mostly don’t have one, drama club, dance or music. This things you will see in most of the bd applicants ec .

Everyone in BD has debate club.
LMAO

@ Eatyoualive:

Most are from Bangla Medium Schools and they do not even study in Dhaka. My guess is around 2-3 IMO participants will apply this year. None are medalists though, just participants.

ppl, for collleges who require commonapp teachers evaluation forms, r u attaching any extra letters of rec? r those letters supplementary only?

Yup supplementary only.

Until and unless they reveal a lot about you, they hardly make effect.

^True that. In Yale admissions page, they tell you to not send anything supplementary, unless you feel it is ABSOLUTELY required.

Exactly Eatyoualive. Thanks for the reference.

I once harassed an adcomm with emails about this and she said supplementary rec letters have no confidentiality value, an applicant can easily access it and they don’t really give an unbiased picture.

However if you feel the this rec will give add pieces to the puzzle called “yourself” by all means send it. If it gives no new info its pretty redundant.

ok thnx :)

so,basically we r supposed 2 provide our teachers with hard copies of evaluative forms. they fill it up & attach it with transcripts & all & finally they have to be mailed. Am I making sense? plz let me knw.

You give your teachers hard copies of teacher’s forms and they fill it up and attach their recommendation letter.

You give the counselor/principal/class teacher hard copies of Secondary School Report and International Supplement and they fill it up and attach transcripts and recommendation letter.

You collect all these together and mail it to the college.

You collect all these together and mail it to the college…& wait 4 da rejection letters!

better version, ryt?
