A friendly hello from The Indian Thread! :)

A friendly hello to you Tizil7 :D

Where in India are you from? And how is your application process going?

The capital itself, Darth!

Application process is going smoothly
I am left with just my Stanford and Caltech supplement. How is the process for you guys?

hi Tizil7! nice to c ya…:)

Ah Delhi

Application process never runs smooth. You always seem to be hitting a new bump on the road. I just have to mail the school papers and submit the supplements(once I revise and edit them).

You are applying to Caltech? Wow
Best of luck!

Okay I know it’s pretty late, but can someone tell me exactly what documents colleges require for financial aid, and what the deadlines are for most financial aid applications? I’ve seen that most are much later than application deadlines, but u guys here are already talking about sending them?
Also, did you guys take A* into account when putting in your cumulative GPAs? My class teacher says U.S doesn’t bother with A*, so there is no need to compensate for it

Only Cornell has a deadline of Jan 1 for fin aid docs. Most colleges have Jan 31, Feb 1 or Feb 15 as deadlines. If you don’t send them now, you will have to mail the hard copies via DHL A-G-A-I-N. You should check with the individual colleges about their fin aid form requirements and deadlines.

Our school doesn’t GPA. A*s don’t matter (that’s what I know).

Well, our school doesn’t GPA or rank, n the teachers don’t really know what to do … what do u think I should do?
Also, what documents exactly do we have to send? Thanks for the prompt answer ![]()
Okay, also, what did u write as current year courses? I wrote GCE A2 physics, chemistry, etc for all three semesters … okay, na?

wat abt the tax returns? maybe they wont be available so soon. At some colleges it can be substituted with bank statements and employers letters. I dont particularly knw abt the ones which require CSS.

anyone already managed tax returns?

@hopeless>> yeh i got ma dads 2010 tax returns>>> unfortunately he cant get da 2011 one b4 may so kinda worriedd

Yes.

Go to http://www.nbr-bd.org/ItReturn/Ind-Return%20English11GA.pdf
where you will be able to download the English version of Bangladesh Income Tax Return. Tell your parents to fill it up, photocopy the forms and then have them sealed and attested by a lawyer/ notarizing agency.

Like I said check with individual college website on what forms to submit, make up a To-do list and ask for your parents’ assistance.

@ Mayisha: Ask your teachers to give a percentile rank although this shouldn’t be a problem.

Now this is getting so painful! Such legal documents are associated with “red tape” problems & I dont wanna trouble my parents…but there’s no choice…

anyway, thnx guys…:)

@DarthSpawnus: about that form… is THAT much detail really required?? It’s way too personal … excuse my ignorance, I have NO idea how these things go

That is a tax form m’lady and that is exactly what colleges which want them want to see.

hmm yeah sorry for the stupid question guys … i showed the form to Dad and he said he has already filled one similar to that … wow, no privacy huh

Hey, I don’t get the fee waiver thing for Yale. How are you getting the fee waiver for Yale? Do they accept a counselor’s note only? I don’t get the thing about Brown University either.

Yup.

Just have your counselor write a letter explaining your financial circumstances and send it with school docs.

So a letter from the counselor is ok for both Brown and Yale?

Thing is Brown doesn’t have “Other fee waiver request” in the commonapp payment section, which is supposed to be where we indicate that we are sending a hardcopy of the fee waiver. Should I select the NACAC fee waiver request, and send the hard copy of the waiver?

one of the indicators listed in NACAC is “Other request from high school principal, high school counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader.”

And are you sure that just a letter is enough for Yale?

Positive. Last year a friend applied and he used the same method.
I don’t now about Brown though.

BTW guys.
I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AT UCHICAGO! I APPLIED EA AND GOT IN WITH A HUGE FIN AID AWARD. SO HAPPY!!!
:D
