I have withdrawn my application from Penn, Colombia, Duke, Grinnel, Bates, Colgate, Oberlin, Bard, Vassar, Macalaster and Hamilton colleges. My best wishes if any of you are applying there.

If anyone needs help with anything, feel free to ask for help. :)

OO WOW!! CONGRATS DUDE!! I feel so jealous of you… not only did you get in… you nailed it in EA, so u wont have to worry for 4 more months.

So, I think you could do us a service by detailing what you did for the application. No one better than a UChicago admit to help the rest of us Minoans…

OMG Congrats !!! Good for u and good for us too !!
Btw, which topic did you choose in the supplement ? UChicago has the most quirky essay topics ever

You cannot prepare something specific before application. I have been pursuing of my activities and hobbies for a minimum of 4-5 years and I have been pursuing them not for the sake of colleges but for my own sake. But what made me appealing to them was the essays. UChicago puts a heavy emphasis on essays. My essays were not very quirky or creative but they showed them who I am as a person and I guess that mattered.

Once again I am not going to reveal SAT scores. Reason is pretty simple. I hate SAT and I don’t thing it ever will measure my or anyone’s true potential and abilities. I also hate when people try to measure themselves and each other through SATs. YOU are much better than your SAT scores and colleges know that and look for other things as well.

Give them the bigger picture. Talk about your academic interests and vocational plans. Give them details of your extracurriculars through an activity list/resume. Make sure you get the best rec letters. Send supplementary materials if you think it will enhance your applications. And last of all, write essays. UChicago didn’t accept DarthSpawnus, UChicago accepted the impression through the application I gave to them. So essays matter a lot.

I do not think there was a single part of my application that was mind blowing and stellar. Rather, I think all the parts were strong so the cumulative effect of all these parts made me like a fit candidate. My academics aren’t stellar. I don’t have O Level and A Level World Highest and Distinctions. Just straight A’s and top 1% in class. I just made sure I submitted the best teacher recommendations. They genuinely liked me and were willing to write rec letters on my behalf. And I spent a lot of time on the essays. I wrote 4 drafts just for my Common App extracurricular essay. So imagine the effort I put into my writings.

About ECAs, well I have been pursuing visual arts for over 10 years now and I admit I have some international awards in them. I participated in some science and math contests, won some regional recognition but nothing special at national level. Participated in Debate competitions and some MUNs. And Community service, well I just have been engaged with many long term projects since 2007 so I guess that counted for something. Oh and I have some leadership positions in school clubs. You see, nothing stellar but okay.

DarthSpawnus, omgggggg…congratzzzzzzzzzzz dude…you are genius…we r proud of u…you are kinds like a insperation to us,that we can make it to our dream college too…um so happy for you:D

btw, What about the universities that say on the commonapp that you have to submit the supplement or the commonapp before you can submit payment? I mean, if I submit my commonapp and the supplement on the last day…I can pay for my application after the deadline has passed?
