NBZ,thanks a lot for the advice! It will help us a lot. Keep vising this tread & help us with your knowledge
btw what are you studying now? Where?

Without good ECA, it is difficult to get admitted in top universities in U.S.A which provide adequate financial aid to Bangladeshi students. Scope for ECA in Bangladeshi Schools are very limited. Only common ECAs in Bangladesh are Math and Physics Olympiads. Thatās why most of the students try to get a Medal and then apply. This process was successful earlier but nowadays most of the Universities got the joke and this year other than MIT, no medalist got chance. So,it is better to think differently and potential applicants should engage in ECAs about which they are passionate and engaged not for admission purpose only.
Moreover, for getting a medal adopting unfair means like getting admitted in a fake school(Coaching Center) for A level, not doing any class and not engaging in tough English Medium School Schedule like exams. mock tests etc., and using enough time for getting medal in Olympiads, making own stellar transcripts and getting good interview report from Olympiad engaged interviewer/Alumnus etc. are all immoral activities.
Those who got selected in that way are those really talented students of Bangladesh? What are their track records? They are not talented- they are fake and cheaters. I will advice all Bangladeshi potential applicants not to apply that track rather try hard and engage yourself in those activities which they really like and try hard. Adopting that track hinders other good potential applicants to reach their goal.

Nozrulislam, your answer was really kind of a relief, because I am no medalist of physics or math olympiad. But I do have ECA. Not the tradition ones though
If you donāt mind I would like to inbox you my ECA and it would be great if you can comment on them
And also I am not applying to ivy leagues, but I will be applying to Johns Hopkins University, and I will be applying to different ranked universities. Oh and btw are you applying for next fall? Or are you already studying overseas?

@nozrulislam man, as the name suggests, you seems rebellious lol
.

from this year, MIT will understand the whole thing trust me. btw, I wonāt apply there.

@NozrulIslam Try to get a medal from an Olympiad, and then post a comment about that! Universities not only love Olympiad medalists from Bangladesh, but also from whole over the world provided that you have passion for that subject.

hey guys. iām happy to see there are so many of us bangladeshis active in cc. anyhow i would like to take this opportunity and ask you guys about scholarships, like how many of you received scholarships and what amount. you dont have to be very specific i just want to get a general idea. i just finished my oālevels so iām in no hurry. my target is aerospace engineering in purdue (statistically its seems to be the easiest school to get into that offer high quality education. no offence to any other schools). thanks a lot in advance

@ivyaspire. Olympiad participants in Bangladesh usually participate to get admitted in top universities in U.S.A. That is the hard fact whether anybody like it or not. Yes, getting a medal in Olympiad is not easy but we made it easier. Getting admitted in a school not engaging so much in school activities, practicing math or physics months together staying Dhaka, getting a medal after practicing years together, making own stellar transcripts, and making fake video clip etc. is the process which is much easier than doing something stellar in any real passionate eca. For that reason, a math medal holder got admitted in Biology, a medal holder practicing years together in Dhaka, from own school/college in a small town far away from Dhaka, applied only after getting a medal after 6 years of association/practice. Look at the last physics Olympiad. The girl selected in MIT,who is a Bronze Medal Holder, could not get even a honorary mention this year, because Mission is already achieved.
Donāt ask me to get a medal in Olympiads. It is near to impossible for an A level student to participate in Olympics as the school load is exorbitantly high and Olympiad schedule clash with school/exam schedule and moreover school will not allow its student to be absent for months together to participate/practice.

It is better to participate in Olympiads but we must participate in proper way so that it is possible for students from all medium can participate and brilliant students get medals and get admission in top universities because track record shows that those medalists who got admitted are not the real brilliant student lots of Bangladesh.

I donāt require a Medal as my mission is achieved. I am going to get admitted in a graduate school. I just post my feelings as I observed this Olympiad phenomenon closely. Engage in Olympiad but for passion in a just way, thatās my aim of the posts, not to harm anybody or criticize anything for the sake of criticism.
With thanks to all.

@nozrulislam

bro, I am not going to support you or, going to say anything rude about anything. I will say just some harsh reality.

a girl, got into MIT from A levelās. yes. last year. then again, before last year and before that, only one girl from Bengali medium. and before that, another 3 English medium boys. some share a common thing. they are from affluent family, and, they are from Dhaka and Chittagong. well, itās hard to say but how many times did this smae olympiad came to our districts? while I was in school, the answer is nil. so, I didnāt participate. when you say that Bengali medium schools let students remain absent for months, you are forgetting one thing. there are government college as well as colleges like NDC, and all cantonment colleges. they wonāt allow you to remain absent from school for months. and you are asking about course load? well. donāt make my word count but A levels and Bengali mediums were probably same when I took classes

here is the thing. I have seen life. Did the girl who got into MIT saying that she gave āshemaiā to 71 people? sorry to say, in my lifetime, I have never seen a student from Dhaka let them touch a poor people. yes. I have seen life like no one elseās. and did she ever rialized how it feels to remain unfeed for 1 day? i donāt know but she wouldnāt have make such a terrible thing if she knew. but alas. MIT doesnāt know it. I obviously donāt like MIT. but this is one reason.

I can go on and on with such reasons, but there is electricity problem here :p. and I have valuable time.

Since people are talking about MIT admission, Iād like to add one thing. Assuming thereās only one interviewer in Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi interviewer seems to be a little biased and favors only those who participate in olympiad. Not accusing though, just pointing out what I noticed :-D

lol. yes.
I had noticed that too. no offense. but please stop this discussion. and move on with your lives. because if somebody cheats, then well chimps will get what they deserve.

Still, seems a little unfair.

@Sapple34
nothing is fair in this world from every viewpoint. let this thing go. because it is not a big deal. MIT has just for 1 sit for students from bangladesh. so, it doesnāt matter who they take really. because there are many qualified students turned away for shortage of seats. so, it doesnāt matter. itās a public forum. not a debating forum.

Iām not arguing or debating here. I just pointed out. Chill. I donāt have a headache whosoever MIT takes in and Iām not applying to that. :D

Everybody who carefully scrutinizes comments of the interviewer, well, s/he can always find out what the interviewer wants to sayā¦
I am not going to apply there too. mostly because I am not āpassionateā. I donāt want to go there :p

LOL A Bangladeshi thread, although itās pretty dead now, isnāt it?

This may be a bit off topic, but has the violence in BD subsided yet?

Hi all, instead of discussing regarding those, whose mission became successful, let us discuss regarding us, future candidates whose mission is still incomplete.
Our mission is to get admitted in good U.S.A. Universities through our 17/18/19 years of hard work and dedicated achievements like 3 successful Tahmids.
In the class of 2017, only 3 male students from Bangladesh got selected in IVy Schools and all 3 are Tahmid.
Tahmid Shahriar in UPenn - Engineering with No Aid.
Tahmid Munat in Columbia - Electrical Engineering with part Aid.
Syed Tahmid Mahbub in Cornell - Electrical and Computer Engineering(ECE) with full Aid.
Let us discuss regarding the admission requirements and process so that we can be as successful as those Tahmids.
With thanks and regards to all.

is completing a meditation course as well as learning yoga good extra curriculars? I have completed meditation course a long time ago, and was thinking of joining a yoga course. Besides i had a plan to establish a company on my own, make and sell some software and use this profit for my companyās community service branch, how good is the idea for eca, as i have apart from meditation no literally eca and so i will apply for class of 2019(will take a gap year and will apply in 2014). Also i will learn programming from reputed institutions.
also anyone can suggest some other good eca for computer science or computer engineering, um confident that i can score 2200+ in sat and full 800 in sat subject tests, will take an ap course (either calculus ab or be or computer science)

Any bengali here, who is currently living in the us, and in the high school graduating class of 2014?!!
