The Bangladeshi Thread

@shadewitt it probably will get counted. and something is always better than nothing. Im not a big expert but CC has threads dedicated for ECAs

Hello everyone, did anyone tried out ED this year? where and why? im very curious to know :)

@JohnAhmed I agree, and that is some interesting information! how did you knew that? Do colleges like publish info’s on admitted students?

Anyone taking the TOEFL exam in Dhaka? heard some scary stuff about the test centers! I heard some computers even stops working in some centers and they dont give you time to do damage control!
Does anyone know or have any good or bad experience in any Dhaka or even chittagong test center?
heard the only supposedly ‘reliable’ center in Dhaka(American alumni center or something) gets booked within an hour of being released!

Common guys now its prime admission season! there should be atleast a few good folks from bangladesh here =/

R.I.P. Bangladesh thread.

If you guys need help or any information on anything, I will be happy to (try to) help after the 21st when my finals are over. Since the deadline for most apps is 1st Jan, I could help with any last minute stuff you guys might have  I personally had problems I needed help with even on the last day.

Also, if anyone applied ED, good luck! I don’t really follow when the results are posted, but I hope you all got into or will get into your dream universities!

@YoBDa Thanks bhai. I would have loved to discuss a few problems right now, but sadly i got none!
Not because im a total badass, but because im not applying to any lib. arts this year! Knew my SAT score was gonna be bad, but what came out a few days ago is just plain ridiculous.
im planing on applying to a few state schools for now, and maybe if i get good grades there i’ll transfer to somewhere better. :/

what do you think of it as a plan btw? :/

I personally wouldn’t go anywhere while counting on a transfer. Those are a whole other lottery. If you think you will be happy regardless of whether the transfer works out or not, it is a good plan. If you think you will be unhappy and the only way you will be satisfied is if the transfer works out, I would say make sure you really think this through.

But, this is just a personal opinion and not a fact.

I am quite a bit lost and frustrated right now. after seeing and dreaming fancy Lib arts colleges for so many days, no matter how pragmatic i want to be its quite hard to settle my mind in for a small state school. cant even afford a good/large public schools financially since there is no aid.
Whatever happens you cant stop studying, northsouth eh hoileo porte hobe. already wasted a year, dont think wasting another one is going to be wise. For now I’m just hoping I’ll be satisfied with whatever i can get myself into. Got alot of thinking to do I guess Thanks for the advice.

Well, you could always do NSU/IBA/any-top-Bangladeshi-university and retake SAT while you are already in (though personally, if I ever got into IBA, I wouldn’t even consider leaving it). That way you don’t have to pause your education and still give the liberal arts another shot.

At this point, stop being frustrated and don’t worry. You’ll be fine. You still have many options to choose from.

Brothers who got into unis, or did apps, could you kindly tell me how you sent the teacher recs?
I am confused. I can get the recs from my teachers, but i don’t think they would send it or upload it to the commonapp? Help :@

Unless they changed the thing since my time, the process involved you giving the email id of the teacher who will send your recommendation during your application. This is part of the things you fill out in commonapp. After you do this, the teacher gets an email with an id, a pass and a link. They must log in using the id and pass provided after using the link. After that, they must fill out the form, which includes submitting (uploading) the letter to commonapp (no hard copy was needed, just soft copy upload).

Let me know if you are still confused or need any other help.

Thankyou bro @YoBDa
A follow up,
how did you send them you O level, and AS and A2 grades ? And kindly mention the grades please?
do they accept photocopies or do i have to get edexcel to send it to them ? (I’m pretty sure edexcel charges a lot, and takes almost 2 months )
And what did you get in the SAT bro ?

O’level, AS and A2 grade was uploaded by my counselor. After I recommended him as my counselor, through his account he had to mention that I followed that curriculum and then uploaded the grades from there. Nth was sent as a hard copy. The transcript, however, he printed, signed and then scanned, after which he uploaded it. I do not think they require anything else other than your counselor’s form which has the scores mentioned.

As a side-note, in my transcript, my counselor did mention my predicted grades for A2, which I am not sure whether is needed or not, but was done for my case.

The A’levels certificated is not needed and nor is any other from Edexcel, unless you are accepted (if you are, they might ask for it, but you will have ample time for that one).

My grades were far from perfect, so that proves that all applications have a good shot.

O’levels- 6A* 2A
AS- 4A (stars are not provided in AS, but I had everything above the 90%)
A2- 3A* 1A
SAT 1- 2220
SAT 2- 2330

However, remember that the transcript is as important as your O/A’levels, so make sure that is good too. Talk (by which I mean beg, since this is Bangladesh) for a good transcript.

Damn you SAT is awesome!, and so are the A level scores ^

But this is where i face the worst problem, the transcripts.
I am doing a levels privately through british council, and not enrolled in a school/college.
Most unis require transcripts but in my case (i guess it would be called homeschooled) i dont have any…
An experienced member of CC told me that only the O and A level grades are necessary for people following the british curriculam…

So really confused right there :/

I suppose you can upload your O/A’level results as the transcript, but to be honest I have no idea what to do in that scenario. I’d suggest asking around where people know more than I do, sorry :S

okay thanks bro :)
