I think its a better idea since your insights will help everyone here :)

Hey PrincetonDreams where are you headed for btw?

And do you think if a college provides FA for internationals in the EA round its a good idea to apply?

@deadbent - I’m applying for fall 2012
you’re lucky, you still have time… i won’t have my IB results by the time i apply either… everything’s gonna depend on projected grades but that’s what it’s like for all IB kids :(

nope, not applying for early decision. won’t get my projected grades by then. that’s why i wish i was doing my As. i’d have some grades to send.

Well thats the same case for me as well…i need to send projected grades for Bio and F math since I didn’t take any exam at all

@rummycandy what do you mean EVERYTHINGS GONNA DEPEND ON PROJECTED GRADES OMG lol. yeah I guess I might have some time but I checked out U of texas (which I really really REALLY liked) but their deadline was something like december and I wont get my A2 results till like feb/march and bla bla bla. PLUS I havent given my SATs yet either sooooo yeah. Im still sorta kinda fixated on canada tho hmm. have you picked which college you want to attend?

@deadbent - i’m serious!!! based on our normal school performance, we got projected IB grades… colleges send in their decisions before we IB kids even do the exams XP yea, i’ve picked my colleges - LACs, women’s colleges… but nothing really attracts me, for some reason… i guess i just don’t wanna start college XD got a dream college???

@rummycandy woah then how are they gonna make a decision when you havent even had the chance to give the exams omg thats messeddd. is your school the one allllllll the way in like baridara or smth? O I get you, I dont wanna start college either but I cant wait to finish my A-levels + ■■■■ of here. and if I cant… then… horror oo yeah def Penn & McGill! you?!?!

A Little correction: NOT everything depends on your projected grades. A lot depends on your transcripts afaik. For instance you are done with AS and now going to A2 …so your school performance+ AS grades are more important. Projected scores are a shadow of those results. You current/most recent results matter. Thats for A Levels.

However rummycandy here has little option since she hasn’t taken any exams yet so in her case projected grades will matter probably but not so much as her class transcripts

@darthspawnus wait hooooole up I thought BOTH AS and A2 grades are important not just AS grades being “more” important…lol. so wait what youre saying is Ill have less of a chance getting in if my AS marks were bad? cause mine were. ■■■■■. what if my a2 grades are better and bla bla you know the dealllllllll

AS grades are not necessarily more important.

Point is your MOST RECENT grades are important. High school-ers in States apply in ther 11th yer which makes their 11th year grades the most important thing in their application. On a parallel level we give AS in our 11th grade so that makes AS very important. But you seem a little misunderstood. Its your school report card+AS grades that count …if you have a crappy school record but awesome AS results then its not gonna help much.

Also if you take year gaps then AS results then matter anymore …its the combined A2 results.

This is all in context of US colleges fyi and usually the more selective ones.

thank you dude

"Applicants are expected to present a minimum ‘B’ grade on GCSE/IGCSE, AS and predicted Advanced level examinations. While consideration will be given to subject prerequisites at the GCSE/IGCSE level, students are encouraged to present requirements at the AS or Advanced level. Please note that general paper is not considered an acceptable subject. "

WHAT does this mean? when they say general paper do they mean the overall grade? like after the cash-in-code thing? ugh Im hella confuzzled.

O and did you get your results today/ last night?!

I am confused while making up a college list.
US colleges have GPA while I have CIE results as well as term report card marks.
Some ppl say the report card marks are also important.
I didnt know that so i wont study for the random school tests so i have some B’s and C’s too.
But in my o-levels and a-levels i have all A’s.
I wanted to ask whether I should base my college list on the CIE results or on my test marks. And out of both what is more important?

@deadbent
general paper is an extra a level subject
some schools have it compulsory
in that you need to write essays on various topics based on your general knowledge
its not even imporatant so dont worry:)

@DarthSpawnus:thnx 4 da reply…i also asked whether i can compensate for da small no. of subjects in A levels by SAT1 n 2?

@kalnemirmanob: SATs dont compensate lack of a rigorous course. However I have seen girls getting admitted to Mt Holyoke ( a women’s liberal arts college) with 2 subjects so you might take a shot bu 2 subjects is too little to make a favorable impact. FYI she is a US citizen so things don’t hold same for you. But a high SAT score, good essays and extracurricular might cover it up.Can you afford 30-40k? If you can then you can get admitted to a pretty good state or private university with your 2 A Level subjects (can usually be found at USNWR Nat Uni Ranking # 40-60). Dont take this as concrete fact…these are things I have observed happening. If you have eyes set towards higher goals then rethink.

@maryam247: if you had read the post #111 you would get answer to your query.

Yes your school grades are important. To US unis A Levels are just part of the larger transcript which consists of your class rank, GPA, school grades and your board exam grades which in your case is CIE grades. Your school grades are strongest indication of how you will perform in college. CIE exams are just a test just like SAT is just a test.
If you dont have GPA and/or class rank its cool doesnt matter at all

@deadbent Yes I got my results last night …my bio, phy and math grades are fine…chem was horrible so might need to repeat that when I take my Further math next jan.

oh and don’t freak out maryam answered your question.

ooo thanks guys
@darthspawnus jw was last may your first sitting of the exams?

Yup I gave my AS+A2s together for 4 subjects
