The Bangladeshi Thread

lol…youre insane

don’t worry about GPAs if you’re school doesn’t have a system like that. most english medium schools in dhaka don’t  transcripts are enough.

lol, i’m actually depending on my projected grades coz if i ace this semester, they’ll be pretty good too… but i’m just being wayyy too positive… human nature, lol XD

@deadbent - yea, i’m from the school wayyy over in baridhara XD

@ deadbent: been called that a lot of times LOL :P

How are you guys going with the applications? I seem to have mastered the ancient art of procrastination.

I am suffering from senioritis and writers block
Was looking forward to seeing the essay topics but now cant seem to think what to write :/

Eid Mubarak you guys :D

Eid Mubarak everyone :D

Yello!
Nice to see a bangladeshi thread.
I am giving my A Levels(CIE)
Subjects(predicted scores):
Phys(A* , got a 100 in AS)
Chem(A)
Math(A)
Further Maths(A*)
AICT(A; hate it! wanted to take computing but got stuck with this since school doesnt have competent A Level Computing teachers)

SAT Reasoning-will give(1st time) in Nov
SAT Subject-Oct

My transcript sucks since I procrastinate, (@DarthSpawnus, amen brother/sister, sex? pretty sure its male since procrastination doesn’t seem to apply to the females of our species) and leave everything for the last month, my predicted grades for AS was, (phys=B,chem=C,math=A,aict=A) well you get the point.

ECA’s have depth and I guess alright when it comes to breadth, got a few hooks ;)

Expecting Good Recommendations.

Hopefully essays will give the admission officer some appreciable mindgasms, just need to sit down and get to it.

Oh hot damn …you got some amazing stats there…

Looks like we have a tough contender here
LOL :D

Welcome deATh72WARrant
Oh and I am a he …no girl would procrastinate or be crazy to have darth spawnus as a user id ;)

@DarthSpawnus
Im not that good, my transcript which should be a good measure(apparently) of how well I perform in class is the biggest flaw in my app.

Really I have been getting around 65-80% from Grade 9-11, though my marks increase from 1st term to 4th then drops at the next academic year. My avg has been increase year-wise and this year i’ll just have to shift gears so the mid-year report is good.
Hopefully my SAT results would make up for everything else, havent really started practice but as with everything else, ill get there.

Also where’s your test center, giving SAT(R) in Nov right?
Mines in Notre Dame(yeah i kno)

wow. deATh72WARrant. seems like you got it all. do you have any idea where you are going to apply?

Dream: Stanford
Pros:My kinda place
Cons:Fin Aid isn’t as good as i need it to be.

I was also researching into Franklin W. Olin School of Engineering but it offers zero Fin Aid to international students.

Not sure for the rest, got some LAC’s in mind as-well as schools with good programs but with high acceptance rates.

I sorta think that the most important part in the App is the college list(since everyone has a “match” school(s) in the US irrespective of other app components). So I am still trying to get it right, now worrying that i am over thinking it.

Anyone applying SCEA, I want to try Princeton or a Competitive college as an experiment, since the decision will be given mid-December and so in time for my other apps, it will allow me to screen my list for possible matches/reach.

Notredame is cool dont worry everyone more or less gives SAT over there
I will retake SAT in Oct 1

Got only 24 days :/

@ death72warrant Why dont you apply to Cornell and Duke?
Take a shot man …the mistake would be to not apply.

Oh and death72warrant I dont think I will apply EA/ED any where

Best of luck applying to Princeton :)

@DarthSpawnus
I actually met a bangladeshi who got in Cornell last year. He could hardly speak English, It was just weird, I mean he was from an English medium school(OIS)!
Oh yeah, if its any help he got a 2180 in his SAT but apart from that he definitely wasn’t an impressive guy.
I also had a neighbor who went to Princeton, got 6A’s(CIE A Lvls), he was in Scholastica here and I think was the top student in his class. Forgot his SAT Scores.

I was thinking of Cornell, not sure bout Duke.
Yeah I would apply to every uni in the world if someone would take care of the app fee ;)

Oh I think I know both of them

OIS guy got into Duke because thats what I heard…someone from OIS got into Duke Dartmouth and Cornell…he is in Duke now I think

And the Scholastican is in Princeton Class of 2013 I think. I know him through debating

I suggest you pay the fees of some universities and apply for fee waivers for the rest.

What about college interviews? When are you guys having them… i have absolutely no clue about them. What is the protocol for getting one, and how many unis have interviews in dhaka?
I know for a fact that Princeton has interviews, so when are you, deATh72WARrant, getting an interview?

Afaik Princeton calls you for interview…same applies for Harvard and Columbia
Only MIT interview has to be scheduled beforehand …thats what it says in their website

I dont think there are that many alumnus in BD so interviews are not that of a big deal
