The Bangladeshi Thread

hi! i am a bangladeshi too…i want to know whether 5As in A-level and 2200 sat scores is good enough to get me into harvard or princeton…i am in football club…debate club…social working club…and a prefect in school

Your scores are definitely on the line for these schools.

However scores do not guarantee anything because admission in those schools is truly a crap shoot. You never know what the admission officers are looking for. But you have got great academics and very good SAT scores so just write some solid essays :)

wht about the extra curricular activities??..wht do i need to do more??

If you are applying for fall 2012 I feel there is hardly much you can do now.

You will be so entrenched in doing application stuff that I think you will hardly have time for anything else or to do something significant about your ECAs. Joining a new club or doing anything new will do you more bad since I have been told by CC people here that such trickery/resume padding can be detected by Adcomms.

There is no fixed number of ECs that can gain you admission to Top 10 or even Top 20 universities. Just be yourself in your application and let it shine.

Hey ppl,
Quite a nice thread you got goin here. You wont mind the presence of another Bangladeshi will you?

@deATh72WARrant: I am pretty sure I know the “unimpressive guy who got into Cornell”, as I am from the same school, and he is quite an awesome guy. Just because ppl dont choose to flaunt their positives, doesnt mean they dun have any. And yeah DarthSpawnus is right, he went to Duke…

We would me more than happy to have even greater number of Bangladeshis.

Us, who are applying abroad, have got a lot of things to discuss and a lot of issues to share

CC won’t make a separate group for Bangladeshis like Indians and Pakistanis since so few of us are here. However I think quite a lot of Bangladeshis apply to US every year and it would be good if we invited our friends to CC to share all our questions and information. Then perhaps we can have a group of our own :)

BTW you are welcome RoughE :)

How does someone choose where to apply?

I can’t seem to decide…

Eatyoualive: is that a serious question? There are so many ways to choose lol XD How many are you applying to?
You guys taking the October SATs??

I will be taking the October SAT
Best of luck rummycandy if you are taking it :)

@Eatyoualive: Use US News and World Report, Collegeboard College search and of course College Confidential to first build up a list and then select those schools that best matches your preference. At least that is how I did it :/

I took SAT I this jan. I was happy with it…until I came across CC. So I might give it another go this december.

The more I read, the less attractive each university looks to me. For instance, I just got to know that Cornell is very stingy with their financial aid for internationals.
Anyways, I think i have some sort of a rough list now. Probably all rejections, but it doesnt hurt to try.

You are right Eatyoualive.

I personally know a senior who got into Cornell but did not get any aid even though he had a high need situation…i think it was 2 years back

And yeah the failure would be to not try ;)

Hey guys. How was the Oct SAT?

I got a Math experimental. And the “cube” question math section was definitely the hardest.

I would be lucky to get 600 considering the number of silly errors I made :(

CR and W were pretty ok though but once again my time management skills failed me miserably so overall I’m in a pretty bad shape

What about you?

I think my reading nd writing section went well. I also screwed up in maths too. Left 2 questions (including the cube question) and made 1 mistake.
How was the reading section? I thought it was easier than the practice tests.
How harsh do you think the math curve will be? -1= 780 / -1= 770?

Does anyone remember any answers???

@DarthSpawnus
How many no error in writing did you get?

I have a feeling math curves won’t be that harsh
Reading and Writing curves will be super harsh though seeing how easy they were

And I dont remember about the 35 question writing section; in the last one I left 2 blanks and out of 12 questions got 2 no errors

I think I also got 2 no error in the last sec.

Nobody here gave SAT II this time? lucky…
