Hula Pie
I discovered good burgers: burgers on excellent bread, with high quality beef, good lettuce and ripe, flavorful tomatoes. Occasionally with some terrific cheese. I’m happy to see the “artisanal” burger to be a growing trend in my area.
Crispy pad thai would be up there. And, surprisingly, after decades of turning my nose up (and I probably had only tasted them once or twice, as a kid, if that,) I stumbled into Ring Dings. Maybe it was a really fresh package. have to say, it was a moment.
A perfectly poached fresh organic egg, served with morel mushrooms and topped with a vin jaune sauce. Mind blowing. Thanks Paris!
Chicken paillard with salad at Le Diplomate. Delicious!
Hmm. I went to a place in NYC with terrible BBQ but the macaroni and cheese was fabulous. Particularly the one with lobster, though the jalapeno laced one was delicious too.
Our local bistro has great wine tasting dinners. My favorite appetizer last summer was a caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes and burrata instead of the usual mozarella. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrata )
We went back to the east coast for the first time in a while and had a real Philly cheesesteak sandwich. I ate four of them in 3 days. We eat a bunch of gourmet-level meals, but those cheesesteaks were the most enjoyable.
Hogfish at a wonderful restaurant in Islamorado and the fish tacos at my local wine bar are out of this world.
Fired oysters on a piece of baguette
Lunch at the Bao in NYC. I honestly couldn’t tell you what I ate…but it was all fabulous!!
It’s too tough for me to choose–ate a LOT of amazing food in 2015 and hope to do a repeat in 2016! Alan Wong’s (one of Obama’s favorite restaurants) is always excellent, as is Café Miro, which is French/Japanese fusion cuisine. Those are probably among my favorite restaurants. We had some excellent dishes in SF as well, when visiting and attending the Opera.
Blood orange margarita and tiger prawn enchiladas at a place called Bella’s in Taos comes to mind.
A proper Cuban sandwich at Rumba Cuban in Windsor, CA
My favorite thing is to go by boat to this hole in the wall crab place and eat crabs and beer on a picnic table with butcher block paper. I only drink beer when eating crabs, big meaty guys that I can pull apart like a professional crab picker.
The other favorite was dinner at The Plume in the lobby of The Jefferson Hotel. Foie gras was so good in wanted to cry.
Dinner at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. It was for our 20th wedding anniversary, and while I can’t really remember everything I ate (sometimes I just couldn’t identify what it was, and we also had such good wine I was a little blurry by the end of the 3 hour meal!) it was all amazing and delicious. Very special.
@eyemamom, we’ve had trouble finding great crabs the last couple of years, and we’ve paid big bucks for XLs that were quite disappointing. If you have a secret place you’re willing to share, please do.
Harrison’s on Tighlmans Island on the Eastern Shore of Md has great crabs and carb soup.
The best thing I’ve eaten last year was seafood rigatoni with crab meat, shrimp, tomatoes , garlic and onions with Feta cheese.
The “Dancing Fish” at Todd English’s Blue Zoo in Orlando.
Best thing I ate last year was Nantucket Oyster Chowder at a restaurant on island called Proprietor’s.
