The Bragging Thread

This is a huge brag for me.
Yesterday when I was just about to settle down to my long weekend of binge watching shows my 3 year old Samsung Qled flat screen started to turn off and turn on every 5 seconds.
I called my internet provider and Samsung. Samsung rep told me to get to the setting and do a factory reset. I said, do you not understand that the TV was turning on off and on every 5 seconds? I could get to the screen fast enough to do a reset. They told me I was out of warranty so I was out of luck.
I actually ordered another TV on Walmart to have it delivered tomorrow.
I really didn’t think it was a hardware issue, but more of a software issue. With very fast pushing of the remote I was able to get to the factory reset. It was still going on and off while it was doing the reset.
I unplugged the TV overnight. This morning I gave it another try. It was still going on and off, but it was staying on longer. Because I thought it was more of a software problem, I went to the device manager and saw the TV was almost out of CPU and RAM. I was able to clean it up to bring them down. I then turned off all smart features on the TV.
It is now working again. Fingers crossed.
I was able to cancel my order with Walmart.

My fire Tv, which is about 3 years old, lost picture a few weeks ago. I was blindly hitting buttons, and got sound back, but also got an electronic voice annoucing the time every minute. I searched for a cure but couldn’t find one. I plugged in an old TV, so old it has no smart features. I plugged in an old antenna, and I can now watch the broadcast channels and a bunch of channels that show old TV shows like Beaver and today a Gidget marathon. It’s in my bedroom so I don’t really care that much.

But I’ll have to get a new TV soon.

That stinks!!

Good try though! At least you know you exhausted every effort before spending money on a new Tav!

OK, so I will brag that I figured out the easiest and cheapest thingie to buy to connect my old Wii to my new smart tv so I can do Wii Fit exercise in the guest room instead of the living room. I was shocked - shocked - that it worked on my first try.

Presidents weekend is a good time to score a new tv

Technology is wonderful when we can get it to work. Otherwise – not so much. I wish I were smarter. Unfortunately I’m the ā€œsmartestā€ one (at least, with technology) in the house, so it always falls on me.

We just did this - bought a cheap adaptor on amazon and it worked great!

After a very exciting pair of ER visits several weeks apart , I am on week 8 or so of my cardiologist’s suggested dietary changes (and she said "we don’t have a lot to change, but let’s try) I have lost 8 lbs. She thought losing maybe 8-10 would be sensible (it’s covid-boredom, grief/loss eating). I am proud of me.

We used to have ā€œ5 pound partiesā€ back in the day on the diet/exercise/wellness thread…

Here’s to one and a half for you!!!

It must their week for" five minutes of fame."

Last week D2 was interviewed on one the local TV new programs in her city about a public health issue.

This week, it’s her husband’s turn. He was interviewed this afternoon as part of a report on how hard it is for young people to buy a house in their city. (Remember D2 and SIL had their offer on a house accepted on Friday evening. This week has been a crazy whirlwind of house inspections, appraisals, meeting with their lender and providing all kinds of documentation proving their creditworthiness.)

His sound bites will air this evening and will be available to stream right after the local news show has aired.

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks.

Wanted to wait til Monday and hopefully brag on my son matching but thought I would brag that he got his first thank you letter with snacks from the owner of a dog he treated in clinics, thanking him specifically for saving their dog!

On the same day he made a correct diagnosis on another dog that no one else had thought of. The head of internal medicine sent him an email later titled ā€œA quote for youā€ It said ā€œNever apologize for being the smartest person in the roomā€

He is doing so well. Match Day is Monday to find out where he will be doing his small animal rotating internship, he does one week of dentistry and then leaves Saturday for 2 weeks of a radiology externship in Liverpool, then vacation and one more surgery rotation and graduation as a DVM!

Hopefully I’ll be back Monday and brag on his match! Fingers crossed!

(@VeryHappy, it’s a popular game. Fun, but I’m not all that good at it).

And congrats on the summer program. You’re killing it.

Child applying to grad schools just read and understood an article describing the consequences of choosing a big name school at full price. Child understood the loan payments were huge; might have to take/stay in unfulfilling jobs to afford the payments; might have to live with lots of roommates to get housing costs down, etc. Child pointed out that even with public interest loan repayment programs, the resulting inflexibility in job choice is a detriment. This is the kind of ā€œsmart kidā€ I like to see!
