The Bragging Thread

My daughter did my nails yesterday for a wedding tomorrow. It’s now been 18 hours and they still look decent. We are a long way from beautiful or elegant or lovely, but I’l take decent. I think I might make it till tomorrow!

And free!

My son got a great job offer from a big AI startup that he’s been wanting to work for. They even go into the office, it’s not virtual, and it’s a mile away from his home. We’re all so happy!

East coast or west?

West coast, SF. We were afraid hiring had slowed too much in the tech industry, but I guess not for every company.

Some things remain white-hot.

Our S recently returned from a tech conference in Seattle. He told me just yesterday that he is getting bombarded from recruiters from several high visibility AI companies. My counsel to him was not to take all that attention for granted.

He just loves what he is doing so much right now. We’re happy for him being is such a good place at this stage in his career.

That is good counsel. You don’t want to be overconfident, but taking advantage of opportunities that come along, doing something you love is a dream that few of us manage to fulfill.

This is probably vanity more than a brag. My D is visiting and we stopped in the local general store (only place in town) to get coffee. A friend of D’s (they’ve been friends since second grade) came into the store and spotted us. She come over to say hello and her comment to me was: “Bromfield you never age.” Made my day!!

What’s fun for me is getting texts from D saying she’s been spending the day with Megan Thee Stallion, who’s back for more costumes…this time for 37 back up dancers. It’s always great when the clients come back for more.

Congrats @busdriver11 for your son’s new job, @Rivet2000 for your son getting attetion, and @JustaMom for her D’s business.

Had not thought of this, but ShawD became medical director of the clinic where she worked a few weeks before she turned 30. Shortly after her next birthday, she is going to be the medical director of a second clinic as well.

S2 got a FT job with a USAID contractor with an office in Kyiv. Is working from Lviv, but now he gets a US-level salary which is good, but not enough to live in our neck of the woods, but it’s a very fine salary in Ukraine. He now gets to contribute to a 401k and pay some Social Security! This may sound bad, but his jobs in Ukraine have been mostly with Ukrainian firms and he gets to take the Foreign Income exclusion. Lots of zeros in that SS earnings history. The tax situation will be a bit more complicated, but looks like he can do a Roth for the earnings made while he’s working in the US this fall while visiting us.

Adulting! With a job that has transferrable skills and potential in the US! The contract is for a little over a year, but they expect more work. I’m so pleased for him.

I’m pleased for him too! That is great news.

The contractor is based in the DC area, so if they ever come back here, he has a local potential job source on other contracts, and a recent US employer!
