The Bragging Thread

UBE, but the rest of the statement re: 17 states inadvertently reveals her score.

I don’t usually post here but I had something to brag about.

My daughter took out her old dishwasher and installed a new one!

She said that she doesn’t recommend installing the custom panel yourself. :joy:

My son recently negotiated a job change with a significant pay raise and an unbelievable signing bonus.

I’m tremendously proud of him but it’s also very gratifying that he asked my input every step of the way.

Today’s Nobel Prize winners in Physics
.

SIL knows & has met all 3 of them. He knows 2 of them quite well. He has emails from them currently sitting in his inbox. He and D1 had dinner with Michel Devoret a couple of months ago when SIL was an invited speaker at the Yale Quantum Institute Symposium.

P.S. I once had Dan Tsui (Nobel Prize for Physics, 1998) over to my house for dinner.

Physics is a pretty small community. You don’t need 6 degrees of separation; only 1 or maybe 2.

When my older daughter was looking at colleges. DH used to call/email a colleague in the physics dept at every school on her list for their opinions of the strengths/weaknesses of physics undergrad program. He would then approve/discourage her interest in the school accordingly. D1 got so exasperated that she finally yelled, “Is there ANY school where you don’t know someone in the physics dept?” DH thought seriously for a long moment and replied, “Yes

but I probably know someone who knows someone who can introduce me.”

My DIL quit her job without another lined up, because of something having nothing to do with her. She managed to get interviews from 3 of the top companies in her field within just about a week (she’d “had a bad time” before she quit and put in a couple of applications) and received great offers from 2 of them. She will be without pay for less than a month I believe, and the higher compensation she’s receiving will easily make up for that. You go girl!!

It just goes to show that sometimes you need to know when to go, especially if toxic things are happening at your workplace! So glad your D has gotten a better job at better pay!

My older sister, younger brother and I are successor co-trustees. We were able to successfully work together, even though we have very different styles. I was able to get Vanguard to distribute my mom’s funds via a check that I got deposited into the trust account. My brother tried to handle the life insurance and Schwab & Morgan Stanley. The life insurance said we filled out forms incorrectly and incompletely and had us re-do. I took everything, read it carefully and got a letter from the bank and everyone to sign correctly for the form and mailed it in. Today I got the check!

My brother is still finishing tying things up with Morgan Stanley but Schwab has finished processing. Between us we are 75% done! Haha!

After leaving it until the last possible day, I successfully upgraded from Windows 10 to 11 on my desktop.

Actually found an experienced, qualified handyman who charges less than $300 per hour. Was not easy.

What kind of jobs is a “handyman” doing for $300/hour???

Great typo there, @Marilyn!

My daughter, who works extremely hard, is getting a bonus. Her company doesn’t really do bonuses, so it is great recognition for her. It is nice to know that her work is appreciated.

My daughter is moving to TX and her husband started his new job on Monday. He looked at a house, put in an offer yesterday, and it was accepted today. He was a man on a mission and he checked this one off his list. Now he has to do all the paperwork for the mortgage, buy a refrigerator, get all their stuff from TN to TX (packers are scheduled for Oct 28, not sure about movers), go to his father’s wedding in GA on Nov 4. Oh, and he’s not sure when he’ll have Nat’l Guard duty in TN because of the govt shutdown and is finishing his masters degree (online) this semester.

Busy boy.

D just texted from New Zealand (her 2 month sabbatical is almost over) - Taylor Swift bellhops and dancers wearing her designs in the video The Fate of Ophelia - D wasn’t even aware they’d been final selected. This is her 3rd project with TS and she’s stoked. Sounds like there’ll be more -

Um, no.

My DIL was accepted to a pretty prestigious grad school program, but received no merit aid. We went to visit today, and late today she got offered some merit aid. I kind of “pushed her” to show her face in the program office. They asked for her name and e-mail address while we were there, and I really think that helped. Yay her (and yay me for nudging her).

I am so proud of my neighborhood/community. People are stepping up in a very big way to help those affected by recent events. The response has been huge and it’s good to know that I live among people like this.
