The Bragging Thread

My D22 has an internship at an LA culture and fashion magazine and I never tire of reading her published articles. She’s been interviewing bands, authors, artists, designers… and loving every minute of it. Seeing your kid living her dream is something else! Proud mama!

DIL accepted a position today in her new field (public health) after graduating from U-MD in May. While our son was intensely debating whether to stay in or leave the Army (he’s leaving), she was left in job-hunting limbo. Once he made his decision, she started searching in earnest and announced today that she made it through three interviews and starts work next week with an organization that was near the top of her list. They will have a very merry Christmas, and we’re so proud of her (well, both of them).

Actor D (who hasn’t auditioned much for tv) got a part in an episode of Law and Order (original series). She’s the victim—she thinks the episode will air in January.

I’ll be attending the France v Norway World Cup match at “Boston Stadium.” I purchased 8 hospitality packages for $18,080. LOL!

Congrats.
My husband and I love soccer. He took me to a couple of matches for the 1994 World Cup at Foxboro stadium at the time. I thought we could take our child to this World Cup. That hope has been dashed once we have realized how expensive and difficult to get any tix.

Circling back. DS bought his new black suit, and a separate different jacket. He actually went to a Greek tailor who is in his neighborhood. He has already worn the new suit, and says it’s really nice to have a suit that fits him so well. It was pricey, but he says…well worth it.

My DS is asking for a black tux jacket WITH TAILS for Christmas. He needs one for upcoming performances.
Anyone have ideas as to where/how to find?

I thought trying to find a purple stuffed Pegasus for my 6 year old daughter decades ago and before online ordering was challenging.

My brothers, dad and BIL bought some nice tuxes at good prices from a rental place. Might that be an option? I’m sure they have them with and w/o tails.

I believe the price was maybe 25% of a new tux. Also the band director might have suggestions of where apparel can be purchased at reasonable prices.

Believe it or not…DSs tails came from Goodwill. A designer name that actually fit him very well. I think it was $25.

But yes, check the tux rental places. They sometimes sell their things.

We’re a soccer family. Both of our sons played, one in college. I’m going for business purposes with the tickets I purchased. I’m trying to figure out how to take the family personally. You can currently enter FIFA’s next public drawing lottery, but the cheapest tickets are $300+ and you aren’t even guaranteed to sit together!

I know because we have followed the news esp about getting tix. When fans complained about tickets this year, FIFA just stated that demands have surpassed the supplies. Lots of soccer fans are priced out.

SIL2 interviewed for a job on Tuesday and was offered the position today.

Full time inpatient acute care/ICU neuro rehab. It’s exactly the job he wanted.

Just watched a PBS Nova episode about quantum mechanics.

SIL was naming every person the episode used as an expert even before their name appeared on the screen. He was able to identify them by their voices even if he wasn’t looking at the TV screen to see their faces. One of their experts was his office mate in grad school; another was his post-doc supervisor. Several others he knows from conferences/symposiums, working with on projects together or refereeing their papers. His thesis advisor at a non-elite institution was named checked as major contributor to the field. He pointed out to D1 some of other experts that he has introduced her to at informal gatherings. (Remember you met John at lunch when we were in New Haven?) He noted which of the experts are probable Nobel Prize or Field’s Medal winners.

He even told his 5yo daughter– “Remember Robin the Wizard? He works on that special computer.” (IBM’s 20 qubit machine)

(The scientist in question was nicknamed “Robin the Wizard” by one of the twins when they were 3 because he has a bushy red beard, a strong Scottish accent and brought them toys when he visited.)

He commented on how Clifford Johnson lived in “basically a garage” in Santa Barbara.

Physics really is such a small closed world.

I had a difficult conversation with a family member yesterday. I’m proud of myself for bringing up the topic and for doing it in a civil, constructive manner. Made a point of acknowledging her fears and addressing them.
It’s all good.

My younger D (an actor) got a part on Law and Order (not SVU) and the episode she’s in airs this week on Thursday (NBC).

Did it help with the pain or inflammation?

Yes, it does. It takes the pain away quickly. I found the effects lasted about 4-6 hours. My husband is currently using it for his shoulder. He also says it takes the pain away immediately but that it doesn’t last that long.

I guess it’s a brag, for me it was fun!

Went with D to the movies and during the previews, just as big as G-d, were pieces made by her (the signature glove and socks), for the upcoming Michael Jackson film. The film has been in the works so long D has all but forgotten it…until…we were both tickled.

Yay! D passed her oral board exam on the first try! (about 15-20% don’t) She’s a now full board certified ob/gyn.

:tada::tada::tada:

(Actually she’s double boarded– in her primary specialty and in her secondary specialty.)
