My D22 is interning at a fashion and culture magazine and was just assigned her first cover story for the print version!

Yay me - we are in Grand Cayman and I just happened to notice it looked like flights from here home were pretty cheap. I verified how much I’d paid for our tickets last July when I got them compared to now, and just got close to $200 each applied to our accounts. The bad news is the credit is only good for a year from when we originally purchased the tickets, but we were hoping to take a trip soon anyway, so hopefully we can use the credit.
@1214mom —I’m sure you’ll find SOMEWHERE to fly. ![]()
MY DIL got a clerkship! She is so excited.
S23 is presenting his research this week at the big conference for his field and accepting a big award (that comes with $$$).
I’m always impressed when I see the events that are planned for his major. Whenever I call to ask if he’s going, he says “Of course I am. I’m the one that planned it”.
I have two today!

Most importantly, DD21 got into grad school. She’ll be off to somewhere this Fall. We’re still awaiting other admissions decisions.

As almost always, gym-related, a Stanford MD who I often see in the gym during workouts, sheepishly asked me whether I’m on TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy). And that would be a big “no sir.”
Congrats to your daughter - and her buff dad. ![]()
Ds2 got his first royalty check last week for his songwriting!
I’m sure it cost Sony more to generate this whopper of a check than the actual amount of the check, but he’s getting paid for doing the thing he loves and that is awesome. He just can’t quit his day job yet!
This is not exactly a brag but is exciting news to share (for me)…
I’ve led a local committee for the past few years, with a focus on public art in our area. We just received approval AND FUNDING for a mural that took so much work due to the City/State/Rail landowners of the location. So many hoops to jump through; I know more than I want to about these efforts now.
I was like a little kid jumping with excitement when the City Mayor’s Office called me (yes, called, not emailed) to give me the good news. Woohoo! I can’t wait to share the finished product.
From one of our s’s:
Today we bought a new car, xxxxxx pooped in the potty, and now he’s riding a pedal bike
Nice
My son came in 3rd at his first cycling event as part of a “sponsored” team. I’m both happy and not so happy about this. Happy for him, of course, but doing fairly well will only encourage him to want to do it more ![]()
Our family is continuing the American dream of upward mobility. My wife’s and my parents were better off than their parents; we’ve done well; and our kids are on track to do much better than us.
Sadly, we’re outliers.
Well, I THINK we are also continuing the upward mobility trend—not as well as my brother who was an md, married to an md but well enough. We have more than my folks had around our age and our S has a LOT more than we had had his age. In any case, we are pretty happy and pretty healthy, so we will take those too with pretty financially comfortable.
Tomorrow DH hits 35 years at his work, and I am really really proud of how he has persevered in the changes over time ; being passed over, being a project lead in everything but name, being the guy everyone wants because nobody is as good…he has the same ethics and sets the same high standards as always.
I’m getting to sing God Bless America at the Hartford Yard Goats game again. This will be my third time doing this. It’s so much fun…and the games are fun too!
I think it was David Letterman who used to open is residual checks on the air, and they were often for just cents and sometimes for $8!
Congrats to son. Hope he someday CAN give up his day job and just cash those big checks.
My D20 took and passed her LSW licensure exam yesterday. She has been studying and stressing about this exam for a couple of months. She had been getting the lower end of the passing threshold on the practice exams, and was worried about her performance on the real deal.
She scored 141/150 questions correct. Super happy for her (and proud).
