The Bruce Jenner Interview

Will anyone else be watching?

Okay, I think this is the Parent Café. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

No I won’t. But then I don’t watch the Kardashians show either.

Absolutely not. I think it’s time those people developed a private life.

I’ll probably watch.

Yes I am going to watch it. I’m not proud. I hope he answers more questions than the teases have been. And I hope he can give some answers to the general community and make the transgender crowd proud.

How sad to think that the transgender community is going to be represented (involuntarily) by a member of the lowlife Kardashian/Jenner clan.

I don’t know what the purpose of the interview is, if Jenner felt that doing an interview about (presumably) being transgender and going forward with transition, it would somehow help others, but the reality is after being involved in the whole Kardashian circus, this comes off as just another publicity stunt, which is basically the only thing the whole Kardashian clan seems to know how to do, and as such I don’t think it will help things much. I suspect Jenner is sincere, thinks this is going to help, but I think because of the taint it is going to not be a positive in the end.

I will likely watch.

As the proud Aunt of a transgendered nephew I have an interest in watching - I have set my DVR so I don’t have to deal with commercials. I’m not so sure Diane Sawyer is the right interviewer however.

I don’t have a tv, so I won’t be watching, but I do think that it is newsworthy that one of the greatest athletes of the past several generations is coming out as transgendered (if in fact that is the case). But for Jenner’s involvement with the Kardashians, this would have to a good thing for transgender rights.

I’ve never seen the Kardashian show. Was Jenner actually on it? Hard to fault someone for marrying an exhibitionist with tacky exhibitionist kids.

I wouldn’t want to hear Jenner interviewed abt the fatal car crash. The whole thing is just too sad. I doubt very much that the lawyers would allow Jenner to comment on that, other to make a neutral statement that the heart goes out to the victim’s family.

No man could survive those women.

Jenner showed up regularly on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” from what I can tell (I think I caught 5 minutes of an episode once dial twitching), so there is definitely a taint there. I agree had this been Jenner as a world class athlete coming out as transgender, it would be huge, but that background is going to taint it. It takes a lot of courage to come out as transgender even if you are not famous, and I wish Jenner well, and I can only hope this interview opens some minds and hearts about transgender folk, rather than being a sensationalized mess. I don’t know who would be a good interviewer to handle this, I don’t think Dianne Sawyer is a great choice.

I don’t have a problem with Diane Sawyer. This is a big get, who do you think should interview him? Katie Couric? Oprah (she doesn’t really have a tv show anymore and her network isn’t seen by many people). Barbara Walters is retired. Matt Lauer? One of the 60 minutes reporters? I think Robin Roberts would be good and she has a sport background. Ryan Seacrest, he owns the Kardashian show? Brian Williams, yea not going to happen.

There aren’t that many reporters who I think could “get” this interview and Diane is as good as any of them.

No thanks. No interest in watching. We’ve had at least two transgendered workers at my company and honestly it wasn’t an issue for anyone. Kudos to Jenner if he sincerely wants to motivate and inspire others in similar circumstances, but will his interview really serve any useful purpose besides sensationalism.

I wouldn’t watch for (almost) any amount of money – I’d probably be cringing all the way through. But I wish Jenner the best.

By the way, I wish the media were devoting a lot less attention to Jenner, and a lot more to this far more important issue for trans people: http://www.advocate.com/commentary/2015/04/24/op-ed-we-must-stop-legislative-war-transgender-people

I’m planning to watch - in part because his situation confuses me. He seems like a very masculine man - his hobbies include race cars and remote controlled helicopters. He does not seem feminine. It puzzles me that he has felt like a female since childhood. So - hoping the interview will have substance and help the average person better understand being transgender.

I will (well, flipping between this and the Spurs). I have never seen the Kardashian show so I don’t have a lot of baggage attached to that. I just want him to be happy. I hope what we’ll learn is that he’s happier now.

BTW, I also am not a Diane Sawyer fan and will be watching despite her.

D2 used to watch the Kardashian shows, so I have a good sense of the family.

Bruce always seemed like the only sane, principled, and totally decent person in the family. I also felt that he was treated very poorly by his wife, who is a real piece of work. I always felt sorry for him and wondered how in the heck he found himself in that family.

I never had any inkling of his gender identity issues. He sure hid that side of himself well. Must have been torture.
