The Cafe Watering Hole: PART DEUX

Come to think of it, a gay teacher would never get a job here. Ever. For that matter, neither would a Buddhist. Those people defy God and instill evil into our children. Curse their souls.

Sigh.

I will never set foot in Ohio.

I’m exhausted.

That’s what she said.

Will you ever set foot in Tennizzle?

Aww, come on. You could easily do one of the three C cities. Cleveland isn’t too bad. It’s all the rough neighborhoods of Toronto put together. It’s really liberal, and it’s on the lake, if those are the things you like about Toronto. And there are Russians there. Columbus is alright, though it is severely lacking in mass transit. I don’t think it has any commuter rail. Cincinnati is rather conservative, but I’m sure you’d find something to do.

Ha. Hahaha. Hahahahaha.

I have a month and a week until my IB philosophy exams.

What does a philosophy exam entail? “How do jelly beans influence people’s emotions?”

Wow. I’m pretty good at making Ohio sound like hell. Fortunately for me, I used a different tone in my college essays.

I…I have never felt so glad to live where I live.

Toronto has its ups and downs.

For philosophy, I have two exams. One is two hours, and it includes two sections. In the first, we are supposed to identify and discuss a philosophical issue presented in a work of art in approximately 800 words, and in the second part, we have to answer a question about one of the optional themes (political philosophy, philosophy of religion, philosophy of science and technology, etc.) in approximately 700 words. The second exam is just an hour and it contains questions about each of the “prescribed texts” (On Liberty by John Stuart Mill, The Republic by Plato, Genealogy of Morals by Nietzsche, etc.) and students choose one and answer it in around 800 words. It’s pretty swell.

In other news, I had a dream in which I opened a cupboard in my kitchen (the cupboard was apparently my mailbox) and it had a large envelope from Yale, and I opened it and it contained a single paper that said “Congratulations!” and under the envelope was a second, small envelope, from Harvard. I didn’t open that one. So ridiculous.

This will make great discussions at 3 am in the nerdy dorm at UChicago. I’ll tell them all about how I have to drive for 45 minutes to get to the Megabus stop, and how all of my WASP teachers think watching movies is a good way to teach.

Envirothon was today…so many southern accents…so many Future Farmers of America clubs…I couldn’t take it…they thought we were from a big city…I…I have no more thoughts…

We do this all the time. It’s not that uncommon.

Haha. CC has invaded your brain.

In my dreams, I’ve now been caught stealing from trashy museums twice. The first was in my town at a nonexistent Indian museum (the India kind of Indian), and the second was somewhere in rural sub-Saharan Africa. The first curator took me hostage, but the second was a stupid British man, and he didn’t think to do that.

no…I’ve never been that far into the country…ohmygod…it was terrible…

You are Indiana Jones.

We watch movies all the time in ToK. We watched a documentary called “The Sexiest Rectangle”. If only I were lying.

Phi.

They prayed before lunch. THEY PRAYED BEFORE LUNCH. This is state-sponsored. But I didn’t care, some vaguely hip kid and I just stood around all awkward.

My school prays for things all the time. I’ve grown accustomed to it. I would prefer they didn’t, but whatever. It’s Ohio. An atheist said that in a health class here a few years ago, they started this discussion about how atheists are evil, and they should all be punished for defying God. The teacher is the son of a pastor, so of course he thought it was okay.

The FFA program at my school is really good. But I loathe the teacher’s guts. He is a stalwart buffoon who has no respect for young people. I ran into him in the hallway the other day (literally), and I didn’t feel bad.

That’s petty.

School sucks.

It does. I have so much studying to do and I don’t care.

My face got sunburnt.

I’ve never gotten a sunburn in my entire life. Because I have a dark-ish natural skintone.

You are a mystery.

My face is itchy.

I don’t really sunburn either. My skin isn’t really that dark, but it just tans easily. When I was in Spain, I was outside in the 35°C Sun for about eight hours, and I turned a lovely shade of golden brown. It was weird. The day I used sunscreen, I couldn’t tell I’d been outside. I think I burned a few times when I was little, but not very much.
