The Cafe Watering Hole: PART DEUX

I’m going to read The Scarlet Letter to my children. Or maybe my brother’s children…

I’ve started to get up 45 minutes earlier than I need to because the morning is the only time of day when I can tackle the vast amounts of reading I have in peace. It’s really not that fun when it’s spent learning about enantiomers and distereomers, though.

I find that review books generally suck and are always disappointing. I bought one for SAT chem and I read the introductory chapter in which I was spoon fed an explanation of “the scientific method” and I never opened it again except to glance at the practice tests.

I’m going to teach my children French and Croatian before they go to school.

I was thinking about that today. I will be a failure if I don’t raise my children at least bilingual. But then again, I don’t know if I even want children, so meh. I’ll have to wait and see which languages are relevant.

I kind of wish that my family had preserved some of its European roots. There’s really no evidence other than my odd last name that my ancestors came from Europe. Thus far, no one has been able to trace my family in Europe. They really aren’t even sure where the ancestors lived. Whatever.

We’re sort of in this transition period now with languages. French and German are quickly losing their statuses, but Chinese still doesn’t seem as though it’s worth the effort. I’m relishing my anglophone superiority.

I’m going to teach my kids to switch hit and pitch lefty.

Doing homework in the morning is way better than doing it at night.

Chinese isn’t a language.

I’m going to teach my children how to do the Carlton. Like on Fresh Prince.

I’m terrible, yet not.

I’m from Ohio. People here tell me I speak good Mexican. So forgive me for not addressing the differences between Cantonese and Mandarin and whatever else may exist.

I miss Rugrats so much. When I make my first billion, I’m giving half of it to whoever will put the entire series on dvd.

So. Get to working.

I forgive you.

The bits of Chinese I know are Wu Hangzhou dialect and Hong Kong Cantonese. There’s like a bazillion languages there.

Help me choose a [ToK final essay topic](http://dbhs_sensei.tripod.com/tok_titles.pdf). From the second page, not the first.

9 seems a bit ironic, I’d go with that one.

1 or 6. Good night.

I like number seven.

It’s so hard to choose. I know bits and pieces of an answer for each of them but I don’t know if I could write a full essay. Actually, I probably could. ToK essays always seem impossible, and then halfway through, they make perfect sense and you start to feel like you actually understand what you’re writing about.

By the way, the “ways of knowing” are emotion, reason, perception, and language.

I changed my mind about sleeping.

I’d flourish in philosophy.

I’d languish in philosophy.

If you want to annoy a pompous lit teacher, you should sign all of your papers, “The Rhetorical Stylings of The One and Only Snoopyiscool”. Works every time.

On our little pretest for AP Lit, I drew a ninja and the teacher said I would’ve gotten in even if my writing was horrible just for that. And despite Harry Potter. I’m going to like English next year.

I’m languishing in various other things.

AP Lit teachers must be the cool English teachers. The rest of them kind of suck.

Good night.

Death of a Salesman is heartbreaking.

I’ve never read it. I say that more and more.

I would definitely work for The Michael Scott Paper Company. Even in the midst of a recession. Yeah.

But what corner would you have?

I’m going to a game tomorrow.
