The Cafe Watering Hole: PART DEUX

I don’t know anyone in my grade that doesn’t know how to write an essay without 5 paragraphs. Par Ohio.

I’m obviously a bangin’ essay writer, so I daresay my superior intellect will do you little good.

Well, mine has six paragraphs, and my thesis isn’t the mundane revelation of my three topics. But my teachers always want the stupid introduction, body paragraph, conclusion thing. One of my English teachers a few years ago took off points because I introduced something new in the conclusion. I think I’m going to try a new approach to the conclusion. I like the introduction on this paper, but the conclusion is going to be stupid.

For starters, I’m going to defy all the rules and not restate my thesis.

I learned how to write formulaicly this year. Now at least I can get better than a 6 on my ACT writing. srsly

Flair is so underrated. I have lots of flair. I’m brimming with flair.

Great noodles. My teachers have been telling me how to write a mass-produced essay. The basic template is the same; just change the words. Grrr.

Exactly. Public school.

I shouldn’t put down my education, but sometimes I can’t help it.

Your education is far superior to mine.

That reminds me of Public Schoolhouse Rock on MadTV. It was on interjections.

Aha. Ahahahah. It’s sad you’re probably right, though.

But still, Tennizzle. Dodged a bullet there.

Size makes a difference. You said once that your school has 1,700 students. Mine has 180. So my school can’t offer anything. When they do budget cuts, they can’t fire any teachers because the school is already understaffed. One math teacher teaches almost the entire high school math sequence. A small school = fewer opportunities. That was part of my reason in picking UChicago over the cheaper Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon College.

Oh god. The boonies.

I think the word quirky must die a slow, cruel death.

Oh god is right. Sometimes I feel like 2500 is constricting.

Quirky is one of those words that is used so often it’s lost all meaning

True.

I listen to The Who when I’m in a mood.

I no longer have any problem telling people that I’m probably never coming back here to live. I certainly will not send my kids (if they ever exist) to a school like mine.

Worst case scenario: I end up a meth addict in Nashville.

srsly

Not Nashville. Anything but that.

My teachers shun the formulaic essay-writing technique. I’ve still been taught to use it, “but only in situations when I don’t know what else to do.”

That’s exactly what my lit teacher told us. She was like, “And if your brain totally fails you, just write a five paragraph essay and try to get something passable together.”

GRRRR!!! I sense that this is only the beginning of my reeducation. I can’t wait to see how much science I didn’t learn.

Today I won sixth place in a regional Spanish competition.

Interesting.

apush tomorrow.

I wish my school did a Spanish competition. I could rock the house in Spanish.

I hope I don’t forget it when I go to Chicago. I’ll have to find some hispanohablantes and we’ll take a little viaje up to Little M

Awwwwww jim and pam.

spoiler.
