If you read the UChicago thread on CC about those topics, you’d see a much different opinion. I don’t like them as much as last year’s, but apparently everyone else thinks they’re genius.

The Common App website is meant to make you hate the admissions process with a passion. If it were pretty, that would defeat the purpose.

Today I wasted time by comparing Chicago weather to the weather in my town, and I have concluded that my friends’ and relatives’ claims of deplorable Chicago weather are basically unfounded, since it’s pretty much the same weather we have here.

lolololol.

I registered at the Common App website too. Ugghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The UChicago essays make me want to apply.

Haha. Hahahaha. Revenge.

I’m certainly not going to stop you from applying.

Really, I think the worst thing about the Common App is all the stupid supplements. Some of them ahem Princeton ahem rival the Common App itself in length. Then again, that makes you appreciate the schools with free applications online and no supplements.

I made a big oopsie in my vigorous bike ride today. Oop’s, that is.

Princeton’s supplement isn’t out yet. And neither is Yale’s. Damnit. Only Harvard and Chicago have released theirs, so far. Actually, some other schools probably have too, I just don’t have them on my silly thing.

Question. Are the character limits in the common app essays limits you should keep in mind even for essays that are uploaded? Like, if the limit says 2000 characters, should I make sure my uploaded essay is less than that? As far as I can tell, it doesn’t automatically check (I uploaded my final ToK essay, which is definitely well over 10,000 characters, and it didn’t reject it).

Those limits are a bit loose, from what I can tell. I think it will take more even if you just type it in the space. But keep in mind that admissions officers don’t want to read a novel with your application.

I’m not saying anything else in this post.

Of course not, but I find it sort of strange that the limit is in characters rather than in words. I’ve looked at the paper form of the common app before, and I don’t think it gave the limit in characters… I don’t know.

I finished Lord of the Flies.

Maybe I’ll replace Rice with UChicago. I’ve been rethinking Texas anyway.

I would rethink Texas too.

Lord of the Flies is a horrible book. It was almost unbearable, but little special things made me survive.

I am officially at page 45 of Crime and Punishment. This is a draining read. And I can’t remember any of the names because they’re so similar in that they all end in -ov or -ova. Horrible.

It was okay. The ending was contrived. I should write that in the many essays I have to write about it.

Now to read Crime and Punishment. I wanted to finish all my homework before my surgery but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

I rethought Texas. It probably would have been fine, but I couldn’t pull the trigger.

Capitol, Washington Monument tomorrow, Fireworks day after.

Rice is just so nice though. So nice. But Texas isn’t, it really isn’t.

I like the fireworks on post.

Right Round by Flo-Rida is ridiculous.

As are fireworks.

You will probably finish Crime and Punishment before me.

The fireworks on the National Mall are pretty fantastic, I must say.

Rice is very nice. If only it weren’t in Texas.

Kung Fu movies are the best.

Right Round is a travesty.

UChicago or Rice. Obamaland or Bushland. What a choice.

The right choice is obvious.

I desperately want to get into Yale. I think my essays will be the deal-breaker. I must make them bangin’.

You can’t just commission the word bangin’ like that. That’s my word.

I suppose the choice is obvious then. But Rice was so nice! Owls! OWLS!

Chicago>Houston, in my obviously biased opinion. I still think you should apply to Northwestern, especially if you want to be a screenwriter. We have all sorts of theater and writing stuff goin on.

He just said “we”.

Bangin’ is mine because I said so.

OH MY GOD ONE AT A TIME I CAN’T THINK LIKE THIS

I’m a fragile artist, for pete’s sake.

Bangin’ is mine. I already laid claim.
