Stop with what? The remarks about your Canadianity? Because that would be extremely difficult to do. You can remark on my obvious Americanness if you want.

I go to a small school, so almost every teacher has known me before I took the class. No surprises there.

My math teacher also extremely dry, but in a good way. He doesn’t grade that hard though. Teachers like your French teacher don’t last long in the US, because all the parents come and whine to the schools about how unfair the teacher is. There have been lawsuits.

Yes, please remark on our Americanness. I want to know so I can fix it. I’m so bored.

I can think of about three other teachers at my school who are just like my French teacher. There are never any lawsuits or anything like that because their students always do really well on standardized tests.

My school does IB philosophy in two years, and for reasons that would take two long to explain, they have a different teacher for each year. The first year is taught by an idiot, but the teacher for the second year is reeeealllyy good. She’s also extremely critical, and no one ever gets a mark above 75% in philosophy. Many parents have complained about that, but her students consistently score 7s on their IB exams (a 7 is the highest score you can get on an exam, but it’s hardly equivalent to a 5 on an AP exam, which can be attained with a raw score of, like, 60%). I was talking to a girl who took the exam last May, and she said that she didn’t study at all, but scored a 6 regardless. And she wasn’t even one of the best students.

That’s not a comment on my Americanness.

I comment when I am given something to comment about.

Of course you do.

And this is where I leave you.

Oh, you’re quite the friendly American.

I can’t survive without a planner.

I can. I always use my planner to practice my handwriting. Whether or not I look at it later is another issue.

Welcome back to the cold war, everyone.

I know. First the U.S. talks about the consequences of Russia’s actions, and now we’re encouraging Georgia to concede on major points. I thought we had figured out that appeasement doesn’t work. Ughh.

The best thing to do is to just stay out of the whole issue. You don’t see Canada rushing to do something about it, and it’s even a member of the G8. Well, if Canada is doing something about the problem, the US media isn’t reporting it. I say let the EU, NATO, and the UN solve it. The US shouldn’t have to do anything.

And now Russia is threatening to attack Poland.

Canada may be doing something, but we’re not really very important, haha. Our prime minister probably made some sort of statement, and that’s it.

JB, the US is a key member of the UN and NATO. If you want those two to be involved, you’re involving the US.

Well, I know. So the US will be involved without sending a whole bunch of troops. I meant that the US should stay out of military and humanitarian aid, since there are international organizations to handle that. Humanitarian aid is great, but it might not be the best idea in this case. Russia is much more likely to back off if it has 30 countries after it than if it had just one country after it. I hope that makes sense…

My town is getting a new school building, to be built behind the old one. When it’s finished, my house will be surrounded on three sides by the school. I’m glad I’ll be long gone.

Wow, a week of the Olympics and Canada still doesn’t have any medals. Nice.

I’m pretty sure Congress would be suing somebody if we hadn’t won any medals by this time.

Hi. I am new here and I am not sure where to introduce myself, so I will here. I am going to be a Junior next year and will take the SAT. So I will be around here to ask questions and such.

Whatever you do, avoid the “What Are My Chances” board, at least for now. Stick around the Cafe for a while, then move to High School Life. You might also want to check out the Parents Forum. Only after you’ve done all that, start looking at the forums for individual colleges you like. Then, you can check the College Admissions board, and then the College Search & Selection board. But if you tackle Chances before that, you won’t be able to live with yourself.
