“dhl3-- in mcb and chem bio and physics, they encourage advanced students to take grad level courses. you have to finish pre-requisite courses and get instructors’ approval. just a little warning tho, these grad level courses can damp your GPA a little.”

What I’ve heard from my undergrad GSI who’s taking graduate level courses is that the grading gets easier. She states “it’s difficult for the professors to give bad grades to grad students because they are all so brilliant.” I can see some truths to this, but the question is would the professors know or ultimately, would they care that you are not a graduate student in a grad class?

Is the senior yea 3.0 GPA requirement averaged over 2 semestes? If so, will having a 2.9 total automatically disqualify my admission? Also, can one write a letter explaining the situation if there is a family or health issue or will the give no consideration to this?

can anyone tell me about the community service frat alpha phi omega? i’m thinking of pledging next semester, but i’m not really sure how time demanding it is. i mean, it IS a community service frat so i know that there are lots of hours that are going to be put in but if i have other activities, do you think i’ll be able to balance it? i just want to get a general feel for how it works, etc. that is, if anyone here is familiar with the frat. i dont know if this is appropriate for the cal bar but oh well.

i’ve never heard of it. pledge a real frat, and then as an active push for more community service activities. you’ll have a better time, and people won’t think you’re weird for joining a fake frat.

How isolated are the shower stalls from each other (talking about Units 1-3)? I didn’t get a chance to check them out during Cal Day, so I’m just wondering how much separation there is between the actual showering sections themselves & the areas where you can change into some clothes and the rest of the bathroom.

Alpha Phi Omega is whatever you want it to be. They have some activities while you’re pledging, but once you’re in, you pretty much contribute whatever you can. It’s not too big of a time commitment.

The showers in units 1-3 are separated by an inch of some kind of plastic wall. You can turn off the shower and get dressed in the stall itself. In unit 1, some stalls have a shower curtain within them so your clothes won’t get wet while you shower. In any case, you can probably hang a towel and your clothes on the outside of the stall and surreptitiously take them into the stall once you’re done. Oh you’ll figure it out.

What are the GE classes for engineers? Are they the same as the ones for L&S? I have trouble finding them… Could someone post the URL please? Thanks a lot.

I am a potential Fall transfer student to Berkeley. I was accepted as a Philosophy major but, as of late, I have been looking seriously at their Integrative Biology department.

Upon transfer, I will have completed:
two semesters of college-level Biology (not including Molecular and Cell Biology)
two semesters of Inorganic Chemistry
one semester of Calculus
no semesters of Physics

Do you, or any others with experience in this department, have any recommendations regarding my strategy if I were to transfer to Berkeley?

My cousin, who just graduated with his degree from Berkeley, was very emphatic about how I should take Molecular and Cellular Biology during the summer before transferring. This is not offered by my community college, and I am wondering if I should perhaps take the course at another local community college, or simply bite the bullet and take it at the University level with all the pre-meds.

Also, if anyone has any particularly strong opinions about Berkeley’s IB department vs. UCLA’s Biology department, I’d like to hear them.

When a class says it’s “1-2 PM” on the Schedule of Classes, does that mean it’s literally 1-2 pm or does it allow maybe 5-10 minutes before/after class? I want to take a class that’s labeled “1-2 PM” and also one that says “2-3 PM”, but if they start and end at the exact same time, I don’t think I can make it to both.

I had three classes back to back last semester. It was fine if no one ran over. Its not a problem with most instructors who agree with Berkeley time. I have heard that there are a few that do not.

Check the maps to make sure that you are able to get from one class to another within 10 minutes. I wouldn’t recommend trying Tolman to Boalt in 10.

Does anybody know the best way for me to get Cal football tickets? Are season tickets extremely hard to get for a freshmen, and how much do they cost?
