the challenge of picking senior yr schedule

im a junior and im interested in really competitive schools. my highschool’s new schedule for next year will allow for an extra period, but im not sure what to do with it, and im already planning on taking 4 APs. below are options im considering; i want to choose what will look best for colleges, but not something that would overwork me too much:

-an internship (not entirely sure how my school or my lack of a mode of transportation would have this work, but my counselor suggested it, and since i plan to major in environmental studies, it could be something in that field)

 • another AP science (5 APs in 1 yr is considered crazy at my school)
 • continuing foreign language (italian): im a yr ahead, so this is my last year w/ my language at my school, but i know many competitive schools may like a 4th yr, so maybe i could take it at a local college
 • im also interested in music, but havent had the schedule room to take another music class besides orchestra, so maybe a music course at a local college
 • i guess the lazier/‘give myself some extra time to do schoolwork’ option would be a double lunch period (they wont let me take study hall)

thoughts?

They’re looking for proficiency in a language, not necessarily a certain number of years. You sound very hesitant to take a 5th AP and it MUCH better to have the highest grades you can get in 4 classes then mediocre grades in 5 classes because you stretched yourself too thin. I’d say either take a course you’re actually interested in (which could then be a good point to discuss in your interview) or the extra study period to make sure your grades are good/ you’re ready for the AP tests (which is the most important aspect of this).
