The Class of 2010 ED Thread/Roster

Yeah… I’m thinking of taking it and actually learning to speak/read/write in Chinese, lol. But then I also want to finish Japanese – schedule problems caused me to only get two years of it in high school, and even the second year I had to struggle to get – I took 2 semesters at a community college. But then… I also want to learn Greek, b/c the NT originally was in Greek. And German, or Russian, such pretty languages all. -sigh-

Oh that’s really cool. I’m taking Ancient Greek at Exeter next year (it’s part of a classical diploma requirement we offer, along with Latin) but I don’t think I’ll have room to continue in college. It would be amazing to read Plato or Homer in the original Greek though…

As a probable engineering major, japanese sounds like a very practical language for you to take. But then again so does German… hmm good luck deciding

latin! i’m in latin. anyway taking chinese anywhere for me is an automatic C or lower. i’m so bad at memorizing characters. the only way i’d get points is the speaking portion of the class.

Oh awesome. Which authors have you read in latin?

ovid, virgil, martial, cicero, catullus…etc.

Awesome. My class next year finishes the virgil sequence in the fall, and then we go on to catullus and horace.

Alwaysfaithful, do you go to Groton? Which prep school in CT do you go to?

Has anyone gotten the Princeton app yet? When does it come out?

Well, the common app’s been out for a while now. I think the supplement and paper app are released mid August?

mmm horace. tough to tackle.

btw cfunk, you wouldn’t happen to know anyone from irvine, CA at exeter would you?

Hey notfadeaway, I just looked it up in lionlinks (our version of facebook) and there are three exonians from Irvine, CA. One in the class of 2006, one in 2008, and another entering as a new 9th grader in 2009. I’m not sure if I should mention any names on this board for privacy issues, but do you know any of them?

haha “2006” used to go to my school and we shared some of the same friends. plays hockey amazingly well apparently.

notfadeaway, this may sound random, but you don’t happen to be related to a postal worker, do you?

haha LOL that was random

Haha I know 2006. He was in my English class my upper fall. And yeah, I remember someone interviewed him and read an essay to the class about the importance of hockey to him. cool. He also served california rolls during our Asian Dinner (yeah random fact). It’s a small world after all huh?

postal worker? my great grandpa ran a mail office in china like 80 years ago. lol. i don’t imagine that was your intention…since i was pretty precise with that location.

I am looking at applying to Princeton. I don’t know if I will apply ED or RD, but they will be getting an app.

I guess maybe I’ll give some info about myself. I am from a tiny town in northeast TX that actually hosts a “Dairy Festival” every year, and was the international dairy capital for a few years until some dang Dutch town stole it. We were lucky enough to get 2 12 foot cows to commemorate those years we had at the tyop which are placed lovingly at the entrance to the road to our high school. I want to assure you I am not joking!!

welcome, sarah_mc! lol, international dairy capital… hey, that’s something to be proud of. ;)

my town’s claim to fame is that we supposedly have one or two famous people living in or around here, but nobody ever really sees them. once a year, though, jim bruer from SNL comes to do stand-up comedy at our high school :)

notfadeaway - yeah, it would’ve been too much of a coincidence anyway.

lol… my town has an ExxonMobil oil refinery and a famous figure skater, but unfortunately we see more of the first than the second.

I was wondering, how important is the optional supplemental recommendation form that the Princeton application offers?

i would guess it’s as important as you want to make it. :)

if you know someone who’s not a teacher who can shine some light on an angle of you that hasn’t already been covered, then go for it. if not, i’m sure it’s not a big deal. it’s all about painting a complete picture of yourself for the adcoms.
