The Class of 2010 ED Thread/Roster

go ahead and add me…

“I work in a bookshop, and read all kinds of non-fiction. I view most fiction books as a waste of time.”

I think id tend to agree but not completely. Fiction is good for the mind and imagination and stuff and definitely helps I think to be more creative and open. I just wish I had more time, then I’d read more.

That’s why I said “most”. Some fiction has it’s merits, but the vast majority of it is predictable and without purpose. Most new releases these days just seem to be rehashings of the same character/plot forumlas that have been selling entertainment books for decades.

I also made a typo in my last post. I meant to say “If I apply regular, I’ll also be applying to Stanford, MIT, Ga Tech, Florida Tech, and University of Florida.” I listed Ga Tech twice by mistake.

Frozen-tears, the laptop thing isn’t an issue for me. I’ve had this PC since 7th grade, but I’m putting off my next computer purchase (i.e. the college laptop) until I know the computing requirements of the university I’ll be attending. So I’ll start shopping next May. Thanks for the heads up, though!

magnusrex, why don’t you tell us a little more about yourself? =)

Maybe I should clarify. When I said “fiction” I didn’t really mean classics… I was refering more to the high-volume mass market paper back releases of today. The Danielle Steele, John Grisham, Nora Roberts, Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton stuff that sells like hotcakes. It’s not that I hate them, but how many titles can you read by the same author before the formula gets stale?

Oh, yeah… I can see what you mean. I don’t read those either. =)

Just a general question about the app… I’m most likely to go into the BSE program, but if I change my mind say… sophomore year or so, I’m not stuck in the Engineering college, am I?

Ok here’s some about me:

I go to a private christian school in Alabama.
White male…really low income

SAT: 2270 (800W, 780M, 690 CW)…old SAT is 1540.
SAT II: Not yet taken, between 700 an 800 on 3 tests.
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.57 W
Rank: 1/123
Nerd accomplishments: MAO pres, Scholar’s bowl captain, math team, NHS, science olympiad, AIME, perfect NLE, (insert standard things here)
CS: I went to Guatemala on a mission/service project trip (really really eye-opening, this was the most fun i’ve ever had…I know this sounds cliche), worked in a slum of Memphis on a house, helped children of inmates get presents…I also help mentally disabled kids ride horses as therapy.

I work at an ice cream store, where I am the manager at closing time. I work about 20-25 wk/ school and 40-45/wk during the summer. (since beginning of soph year…a good bit of this used to support myself, family)

Hobbies: Photography, I took a class at Governor’s School that I really liked. I play classical guitar casually. I’m taking Creative Writing next year, which I’m really excited about.

But anyhow, I want to go to Princeton more than any other Ivies, becuase it’s got a beautiful campus, great FA, more focus on undergrad, and is just all around cool, etc. I’m almost sure i’m applying ED. I want to major in physics, economics, or classics. (prob 2/3 of those)

i’m applying to Princeton ED.

Pton EDers… let’s get this party started!

i’ll be applying, not really expecting to get in, though… i’m a girl who’s obsessed w/ sci-fi and fantasy books, equally obsessed w/ running. i’m politically conservative, and i love sesame bagels. :)

i’m politically conservative also. but, I am registering as an independent. George Washington was against political parties, and so am I. I think it’s best to vote on the person and not the party… but most of the time I side with the republicans.

I agree with Amnesia politically. Around election season, I was tired of hearing about the candidates (neither of which I thought were particularly strong)…so I got Kerry and Bush bumper stickers and put them both on my truck. I had the only Kerry sticker in my school, haha. It lasted until about March until someone ripped it off my truck. So I ripped my Bush sticker off too.

lol absolutely. Political parties are dangerous, when people begin to side with the party name rather than what they stand for.

hehe I was kindof hoping this wouldn’t turn out ot be a thread where we posted stats and compared ourselves to each other. It’s be nice if we got to know each other as people rather than as numbers – you get the latter way too much around here, IMO. So from now on, let’s try to keep stats out of here. Sound good?

I’m considering applying ED to Princeton. If not, I’ll be going EA at Stanford because I’m a legacy, but I still have to visit Stanford later this summer. I’m a little afraid of the applicant pool in the ED round. Looking at last years decisions always intimidates me.

more tales from sububblia: i love the rolling stones! and i’m going to a coldplay concert in august. and i’m really interested in the 60s/70s…and i like watching charlie chaplin films.

yeah glinda i’m kind of intimidated by the quality of the applicant pool for ED too. quality quality quality quality coffee. hmm at the moment i fancy myself a root beer float.

Ooh… sounds awesome. (both the concert and the root beer float)

Hehe I won a pair of tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm in a writing contest last year and they expire in September… I’m hoping to get to use them this summer. These are going to be a full next two months…

Speaking of coffee and root beer floats… my friend had this crazy fundraising idea for next year – to sell coffee-boba floats in the school mall. Coffee with the little boba balls and ice cream… he thinks it’ll sell really well. I’m almost willing to give it a try.

Oooh a root beer float sounds good! A little bit about myself: I’m a musical fanatic. Anything Broadway: sign me up! I’m politically conservative and I’m really into languages. And ancient cultures. It’s hard to sum yourself up in a few words! Guess it’s practice for apps, eh?

lol! true, true… speaking of apps, has anyone started the essays yet? it is so freaking HARD to talk about your entire life with the restrictions of a word limit!

nope, but for one I am writing freestyle // formal. Because the admissions people said that it’s important that this doesn’t turn into a school essay, I’m not going to write it sweating. Rather, it will be a nice, quick essay.

essay? are topics out. or are we just creatively writing in preparation and anticipation for the big day! …the one where the app is released…
