Don’t set a specific date to have your essay done. I just let mine come to me…and it did. I always subconsciously thought about my essay, and when I had a good idea, I wrote it down and went with it if I could.

However, if you don’t have a clue by October 31, think of something. Quick.

It’s a good idea. Another thing I thought was helpful to keep in mind was, if you can’t figure out how an idea’s going to work out, don’t scrap it.

The only essay I’ve actually written is the 500-word common app essay, but I’m thinking of doing some major cutting to make it into the 150 word important activity short answer. Something I’ve learned from journalism – it’s always better to write too much than too little. One you can always cut, but the other can be a pain to add new ideas to.

I wrote my main essay in the summer and used it in all my applications. For the shorter essays, they’re not bad at all. Once I got started, I pretty much wrote three in a week. I went over the word limit for all my essays though. My gc told me though that as long as you keep the 500 word ones to under a page, it’s fine.

I did my Princeton application January 2. It was my last one…all because I saw the movie Spanglish. I’m so glad I did.

lol, Spanglish was playing on one of my flights…I tried to watch it just for the princeton references, but there only some during the beginning and end so I didn’t pay that much attention.

You know what is depressing?

The minute I get accepted to Princeton, I will stop posting here.

well, dont keep your expectations high, amnesia.

good call, Enjoi… statistically, very few of us will get in. I would love to be accepted, but i’m definitely not counting on it. It’s best to find a few colleges from each tier that you could absolutely see yourself attending. There’s no such thing as a “shoe-in” to princeton, and it’s a bit much to expect to get in. ;)

Yes, I’m starting to prepare myself for disappointment now. I kinda expected to get into NJGS back in April and was in for a major shock. After that I’ve learned never to get my hopes up. There’s a lot of luck involved in admissions too.

lol, glinda, i had the exact same thing!!! My guidance counselor practically told me i was a shoe-in. i guess i didn’t spend much time on the app, though… i was rejected from NJGS of Public Issues. which one did you apply to?

does california have a governor’s school? i bet we do, and i am probably just out of the loop on this one. maybe ah-nold just named it something else.

haha LOL… Govenator’s School

hahaha. frozen-tears i just noticed saving private ryan was in your poast waaayy back. I LOVE THAT MOVIE. ok. for all the hype about smoothies being healthy, they have a lot of sugar. abbot suger. hardy har har. and for all those who work at a smoothie place or have friends who do…awesome.

“The minute I get accepted to Princeton, I will stop posting here.”

Rather confident. Heh.

Hehe I haven’t heard of one for California, either.

Like Glinda and Koala, I felt that I was a shoo-in for a summer program, NASA SHARP. So I applied to RSI, SHARP Commuter at JPL, and SHARP Residential, kindof with the intention of practicing for the fall app process. Rejected from RSI – no surprise there; then rejected from residential, which had been my safety. And then I looked at the SHARP thread on CC and found out that the acceptance rate for residential was 10%, and I was like… holy crap I’m probably not in at JPL.

What do you know, I actually got an interview (which I thought I totally messed up because [1] I was just starting to get really sick… an hour later I was in a heap on my desk, and [2] I was still shaky from some major problems at home) and a week later there was a big envelope in my mailbox from “The Jet Propulsion Laboratory - California Institute of Technology 4800 Oak Grove Drive”… and then I arrive on the first day of work and find that the acceptance rate this year was 6%. flops over

So… I guess Princeton isn’t as huge a reach for me as RSI was, but I’m still going to try not to garner expectations. But I’m confident that everyone here’s going to be okay and be able to be happy whereever we find ourselves fall next year.

I applied to International Studies, and I’m a major language person and lived overseas for a few years. I figured I was just what they were looking for, considering my high PSAT scores and stuff. I was very disappointed. But I figure, everything happens for a reason. I needed a disappointment like that to open my eyes and realize rejection wasn’t the end of the world.

anyone going Premed?

i heard that international studies and public issues were the two hardest to get into, so we shouldn’t get too down on ourselves ;)

Oh that’s nice to hear. :)
