The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@Pegski regarding your son’s audition at CCM… my son auditioned there in December (a no :frowning: ) but the sense we got was that they were looking to see if you could move and learn a dance… not be professional. The guy who gave us our CCM tour the day before said that he had absolutely no dance experience before going there… so there is hope!

@NYYFanNowMTdad we are flying out to Chicago DURING the Superbowl. My son has a matinee that day, so we can’t leave on Saturday.

He also had an audition at CCM the day of the College Football Championship games. He and I met at a Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch (after dance call but before audition) and I spent the afternoon in my hotel room watching the next game… then he and I watched the last couple.

Hello! New here and quick question about Chicago Unifieds. My D’s first audition is not until Monday afternoon. Do walk-in sign ups happen just on the first day for the whole week or is it the morning of each day for that day? Thanks!

@NewToThis13 In NY this weekend some schools did walk-ins on the spot, some did walk-in sign ups for later that day each day and some did sign ups for later in the weekend. Finally, there were a couple who said they weren’t officially talking walk-ins “but if you want to hang out and there is a no show or we get ahead of schedule I can try and squeeze you in.”

Thank you!

Just back home from NYC Unifieds. Just want to shout out to the wonderfully supportive and kind parents and students we met along the way. Everyone was so supportive of each other. So refreshing. The world is a better place because of theatre people! The whole process was a blast! Now onto Chicago!

@MThopeful99 JW Marriott is at 151 W. Adams Street. I think it is only a couple of blocks from the Palmer House. Looks like it is about a 3 block walk… 5-10 minutes.

@MToverload I went over the schedule with my son last week and we noticed that we didn’t have a time for Rider. M y son emailed them and told me today that he has a slot in Chicago.

@MToverload yes, we received our email from Rider on 1/16. It has a link to signup genius to register for a voice/mono time and gives the times for the optional dance portion. It came from Kara Jonsson. hope that helps!

Regarding the male female audition , males have it easier argument. I agree the numbers don’t lie but yes not to disparage boys who have trained for years etc.

Hasn’t anyone seen this on social media before? Good for a laugh to be sure…lol and true yes?!

See below…

High school girls in musicals: Ive being going to theater camp since 1st grade and taking professional voice lessons since I was 10, so excited to be townsperson #3 this spring!

HS boys in musicals: The drama teacher cornered me after Alegbra 2 and said I had to be Shrek.

@TexasMTDad @suledamo Thanks for answering. I’ll have my D check for something around the 16th and then email if she can’t find anything.

My D came home from school today to an email from Cornish saying she’d passed her audition and inviting her to apply! She did a walk-in for them on Friday at Unifieds. I hope at least some other schools make decisions this quickly…

@theaterwork LOL! So true at my D’s school. Well, most years. The lead male is usually a non-theatre kid, trying it out for the first time in their senior year, often a football player.

This year, Shrek is double cast, and both boys are theatre kids. Fiona is double cast as well. My D and her friend are both playing Princess and Ogress Fiona alternating nights. However, even the theatre boys had to be convinced to try out for the part of Shrek. In contrast every non-theatre and theatre girl in the school wanted Fiona.

For Chicago weather, you can get a 7 day forecast from WGN weather.

Congratulations to your D @afterp89! That’s so great!

A few 14-day forecasts out there. Definitely looks like snow at some point starting as early as Friday, but not calling for anything overwhelming (yet).

@afterp89 My D also did a walkin and received email from Cornish. The email was only a link to apply. Was your email different? I am curious if ours is definitely a step forward or if we were added to a mailing list. The email didn’t seem very personal for us.

@theaterwork so funny! That’s what happened to my son. Freshman year in HS. they came into his a cappella rehearsal and basically make him audition (after auditions were done). Had no intention of doing the play at all. He got the lead as Shrek of “Shrek the musical” lol.
He is now a first year BFA acting

@FROG65 I sent you a PM.

@MToverload We haven’t heard from Rider either.
