The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

congrats @afterp89

@afterp89 Congrats on your D’s acceptance

@artandtechmom you will get some schools that are very aggressive. Some, Like PACE, that will continue to call and email you after you get an artistic rejection. Others, may even keep the emails going after you let them know you are not interested in coming. We had one school where our D sent an email to admissions as well as the head of MT saying she would not be attending and they kept sending her emails about housing, then she got a schedule over the summer and then a bill! We never accepted or deposited  I think my D must have clicked on a button of something for after she was accepted in an email. So be careful what you click

SAS0792, thanks for that! I will be sure that my D is a careful clicker these next few months.

What schools have rolling admissions, now that NY Unifieds are done which schools should we expect to hear from soon? I’m sure some of the mentioned it, but the whole weekend was a whirlwind, the only one I remember was UArts. I am wondering if Shenandoah, Point Park and Ithaca will give decisions before March 1st? Thanks

@onepercentmom - Ithaca cuts you loose pretty quickly if it’s a no, but yesses may be after March 1st (not sure when their last audition is this year)

I don’t know how many schools give decisions before finishing up auditions, but I think most schools wrap up their audition season the weekend after LA unifieds. Last year, we had our first yes from Chicago unifieds around the 25th of Feb - had all decisions other than NYU by the end of the second week of March. (NYU comes out pretty consistently on April 1st.) The only thing we were waiting on after that was a waitlist.

At Shenandoah’s parent Q&A, they said they will try to let kids know within about 10 days whether or not they are still in the mix but the actual decisions won’t be made until all of the auditions are complete.

That sounds like the “hold” letter than many schools send

We got a decision letter from Marymount Manhattan yesterday from my D’s audition this past Saturday at Unifieds. Marymount said they would give notices out within 2-3 weeks. At Shenandoah, my husband understood them to say that they would issue any “No’s” within 2 weeks of the audition. The rest would be considered until all auditions were done. (just like @mindatwork said :))

@onepercentmom Point Park releases all decisions, yay or nay, the same day, usually mid-March, via email. Check the website, they may say what day they anticipate doing that.

Molloy/CAP21 was very late last year, but their recruitment coordinator was new… hoping for faster decisions this year. For those who didn’t have this program on their radar (a mistake, but you’re forgiven!), time to check it out! This from the Molloy/CAP21 FB page:

Molloy College/CAP21 Theatre Arts BFA Program - Prospective Students

Musical Theatre BFA auditions are underway for fall 2019 admission! Molloy/CAP21 will be holding auditions in New York on the following dates:
January 19th
January 26th
February 2nd
February 16th
February 20th
We will also be attending Chicago and Los Angeles Unifieds. Prospective students should apply ASAP to Molloy College either via the Common App or online at https://apply.molloy.edu/ - Already applied but have not yet received a link to set up your departmental audition? Make sure that your high school guidance counselor has sent your transcript to Molloy and that your SAT and/or ACT scores have been released to Molloy by the College Board.
Questions? Email Rebecca Overton, Theatre Arts Recruitment Coordinator, at roverton@molloy.edu.

I’ll add to what @EastchesterMom said. The Molloy/CAP21 decisions last year seemed to be spread out based on those of us on CC last year. Some received their yes the first week of March, but a few didn’t hear until into the first or second week of April. The acceptances were sent via snail-mail and the weather issues around that time last year didn’t do anyone any favors on timing. Hopefully, it is earlier and smoother for all of you waiting to hear from them this year!

Anybody hearing anything from this past weekends auditions yet?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered: does anyone know how long the NYU Steinhardt auditions are? DS has one scheduled next month and trying to plan flights. Thank you in advance.

@Betaboo Yes. My dd auditioned there this past Sunday morning. her audition time was 10:30 and We got there around 9:40. they have practice rooms on the 9th floor you can use to warm up. The rooms in the middle were the only ones unlocked and available and some kids had to wait for one so I was glad we arrived early to allow time for that and not all the practice rooms have pianos in them. We went down to the 3rd floor for the audition about 20 minutes before her time. They have to fill out some paperwork before the audition. It seemed like a lot, but I didn’t actually look at it as she filled it out. It does ask for your NYU id # but several people didn’t have theirs and it didn’t seem like a big deal. They were running ahead of schedule so they took people that were ready before their appointed time. the actual audition lasted less than 10 minutes? We were in the building maybe an hour. Hope that helps. let me know if you have any other questions, i’d be happy to try and answer.

@Betaboo We had the same experience as @suledamo
I thought the whole thing was rather strange in comparison to other auditions my son has done. There was no information session, no information packet, no nothing really. Show up, 10 minute audition, leave.

Thank you suledamo and ZukAndSowash! From their communication that is what I thought it would be, but agree it is different without the info session. Good to know about the paperwork and NYU id#. Good luck to all!

@MTlizard - we also heard from Marymount Manhattan quickly - thankfully it was a “yes”. I think it would be tough to get “no” prior to Chicago unifieds!

Did anyone else apply to Royal Conservatoire of Scotland? If so, was there any follow up afterwards - meaning were they asked to complete an application? Thanks!
