Hi everyone. I’m new here and first-time poster. Thanks to everyone for all of your very helpful info. We were in NYC this weekend on Saturday for Unifieds and on Sunday for NYU Steinhardt. I also found the NYU audition a little weird. There was no real info at all. We arrived 30 mins early, were given a bunch of paperwork, and told the auditions were running early so to be back from warming up within 10 minutes. My son was in the audition room for barely 10 minutes, and that was it.
@MTMusicmanmom Welcome! I’m brand new too. We were at NYU Tisch last week and got a really good presentation from the department head (I think?). How strange that Steinhardt is so different. One of D’s friends is in Steinhardt as a freshman and really enjoying it. Their choir was on GMA during the holidays.
Actually the woman at Tisch who leads the presentation is a rep from admissions (and a Tisch alum). Does anyone know her name? (red-hair cut in a bob)? Thanks in advance!
@onepercentmom our daughter (who is a freshman MT at Ithaca now) got the “yes” from them in late February
@MaybeThisTimeBW was her offer after NY Unifieds? Does she like the program?
When DD was at Tisch for audition in November, the presentation was given by the department head-a gentleman named Chris, I think. Funny guy, and informative. Surprised to hear Steinhardt didn’t have something similar.
Yes, @onepercentmom, she auditioned for Ithaca at NY Unifieds – and she LOVES the program… like any good MT BFA, it’s hard work – but the faculty and students are very supportive and collaborative
@onepercentmom Regarding Royal Conservatoire of Scotland my D auditioned for them at NY Unifieds. She received an email thanking her for her audition and asking her to apply.
My D just auditioned for Ithaca at NY Unifieds and loved the program. I will say they were very intense during the presentation. The head of the program had her sing three songs and spoke to her for a long time asking questions. Not going to read anything into that, but she would LOVE to go to Ithaca!
@yellahamma - Tisch and Steinhardt are totally separate schools within NYU so it’s really up to the school how they run auditions. Tisch MT auditions from our experience last year are pretty warm and fuzzy with a hugely entertaining info session given by Chris, the admissions director. It was my D’s last audition and her favorite. Steinhardt may run theirs more like they run their music auditions. Not sure.
@KAT67 My S also auditioned for Ithaca at NY Unifieds. Also found the presentation very intense, they mean business. My S also had to sing 3 songs, then sight sing, then questions, want it to be a sign, but you’re correct best not to read anything into it!!
@onepercentmom hopefully our kids did good! Fingers crossed. One of my daughters friends decided the program was to intense for her. She didn’t like the program at all, but the intensity fits my daughter well. Now we wait! My least favorite thing to do.
It’s so hard not to read into things! During the song portion of D’s Tisch audition she was asked to sing her uptempo song as a ballad and change the focus of who she was singing it to. We expected that kind of thing in the acting audition but not the voice.
@onepercentmom Congratulations on MMC and Ithaca sounds like a good sign! My D got her first “no” the Friday before Chicago Unifieds. Tough to start the long week with that in her head but many students were in the same boat! Chins up. It is a long journey!
@NewToThis13 this direction at her Tisch audition, confirms what I tell my MT students all of the time. To truly be successful in MT, you need to be as skilled in acting as in vocals and that is something the MT studio at Tisch reinforces in their training. BAL to your D!
@NewToThis13 My D had same experience with Tisch audition.
Has anyone received info about the USC MT weekend? Waiting to get logistics and it’s been quiet since the invite.
