The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Not sure…everyone I know auditioned for MT…they don’t go to LA Unified for MT, so maybe they decide a little earlier for that.

@pegski Congrats on not getting the “no” yet! Anyone have any idea of how many kids get waitlisted at these schools? D has a friend who got into NYU from the waitlist. I’m sure it varies but is it as many as they accept? A parent last weekend told me that schools usually accept double the amount they want because half will go somewhere else. Does that sound right?

Also, does anyone know if and how well the school looks at a student’s application before they audition? Most of the schools that don’t have prescreens asked for a resume and headshot as part of the application, but then you are asked to have hard copies for them at the audition. Do the non-prescreen schools see everyone cold?

@NewToThis13
My D auditioned at Pace today & they said they accept about 40 to fulfill a class of 28. But then there are alternate & wait lists letters sent & I don’t know how many of those there are.

@NewToThis13 Schools are all different with respect to how they go about filling their freshman class. Some accept double the amount because they assume half won’t accept, some accept exactly how many they want and have a general wait list they go to with each student who chooses elsewhere, and some have a targetted wait list where each accepted student have 1-2 on hold and they will only be offered a spot if that particular student declines the offer. Like everything else in MT it keeps you guessing!

So my D auditioned for the Rutgers Acting BFA on Saturday and in talking with the administrator she said she’s been told the MT program has now been pushed off to Fall 2021 - if at all. If it is ultimately stood up it will be a separate stand-alone degree program rather than integration between theatre, dance and music. There will be no cross pollination of courses.

@thespis1 My D audition for Ithaca at NY unifieds last year. She got her rejection the last week in March. Ithaca comes in waves starting late February.

@afterp89 thanks for the info on Rutgers. Congrats toa ll that posted acceptances or even “NON denials”

D had three audition outfits she cycled. She got compliments on two - a pant suit and green pants with doc martens (she wore for acting auditions). Both were comfortable enough for movement and did not make her look or feel like she was in uniform. If your actor feels comfortable, it will show!

@pegski Spoke with my nephew last night - he also has not yet received a “no” and he auditioned in December. He plans to go back to Cincinnati in a few weeks for an Acting audition and was hoping to hear by then. No news, at this point, is good news.

Anyone know who takes walk ins at chicago unifeids?

@NewToThis13 Hi! Our D was there yesterday for the 1:30 Audition. I am glad they gave the statistics after she went up to audition. They said they have had 1600 apply, they are calling back 600-700, and they are sending out 40 invitation for 28 slots. They also said that they are also expecting a huge wave of prescreens before the their February 1st deadline. I hope your D had a great audition!

@artkids, my son surprised himself by actually loving the CCM acting audition. Let me know if your nephew enjoys it as well!

My S had his last audition this past weekend and it was by far his most enjoyable. A 45-minute block in which they had him sing a total of 3 selections (full songs), perform 1 monologue, and have what he said was a very personable interview with the department head (no dance call). He auditioned at a total of 4 schools - we’ve heard from 2 and will hopefully hear from the others by early to mid-March. Ironically, his “NO” was from what we thought would be his safety school and his “YES” was from one that we thought would be a long-shot. I’ve given up trying to figure it out! For those of you with auditions still upcoming, best of luck to your kids and keep them thinking positive.

Wow, @Mark80 , only 4 school auditions with a YES. That is fantastic but really against the odds as many have seen on this forum. Congratulations.

Congrats, @Marks80 - please tell us who the lucky schools are - the yes, and the great audition experience!

@EastchesterMom - the great experience was at Xavier University in Cincinnati. My S attended the summer workshop at CCM this past year and was taught by the department head from Xavier and absolutely fell in love with his methods so he added them to his list. We’ve been fortunate to attend some of their productions this year and they are all top notch. The fact that they are offering him a good amount of scholarship $$$ for his grades didn’t hurt efforts either! Depending on his other results this will be a tough call as he ended up only applying to the schools that he really wanted to attend.

@Mark80 - Your S has truly beaten the odds… and it’s still early days, as you point out. Just when you think this crazy process couldn’t raise your blood pressure any higher, I guarantee that some of you out there will have to make some very difficult decisions in the coming weeks!

For those doing the Chicago unifieds or other interviews in state, you lucked out. After the expected record setting lows in the next few days, February thaw for the weekend. There is always the possibility of ice or black ice at night when the temps drop but above freezing in the day. Middle of the state might hit 50 which is swim suit weather. lol

My daughter’s friend (a boy) only did 3 auditions - he was accepted to the first two (both are top “reach” programs) and then cancelled all but his third audition at Michigan, whom he doesn’t yet have his decision. I can’t even imagine having this process be so easy and smooth.

@GloriaVaughn that’s great news! We rode the bus home on Monday after Unifieds in NYC and standing outside in 14 degree temps with 30+ mph gusts I was wondering how we were going to survive in Chicago.
