@afterp89 be glad. Where I’m at Wednesdays temp are a high of -9 and a low of -20 which doesn’t take in wind chills. Chicago could have -50 wind chills. They are telling people to stay home unless your are essential personal like EMT’s but haven’t decided if they are closing the Chgo public schools yet. First time they closed was the blizzard of '67. They rarely close. Suburbs are already calling off school. Keep in mind that the wind off the lake in the loop can be bitter. You can google wgn tv for Chgo weather.
Congrats to your son @Mark80! And $$$ too? Amazing and Awesome!
@pegski @artskids that is good news about CCM. My son auditioned in December and had a no by the next Friday… so if you don’t have a no, you’re in the running.
@GloriaVaughn … I think the only time CPS ever closed for the cold was in 1985. Wind chills were -80.
I was in high school then … I think it was my second snow day (even though it was for the cold) EVER.
Now, they close my kid’s suburban schools for fog for cripes sake.
I didn’t even think about the Unifieds! Would they ever cancel them? That would stink for people traveling to get there.
I don’t think it is going to be nearly as cold next week… most of the really cold stuff is this week.
My mistake–I thought Chicago was this week! We go Feb. 7th for Juilliard, although they are not part of the Unifieds…so I should have figured that out! lol
My son’s school is doing Shrek this spring. So, the music has been on a lot. I was fooling around and came up with this:
I KNOW IT’S TODAY
There’s a singer
There’s an actor
Take your pick, they’re all like me!
Not exactly, I’m still waiting
They’ve heard yeses happily
Ever after better get here
Need a yes from my dream school
No one need all these auditions
Or this giant talent pool
Cut the ballad, cut the upbeat
Cut this stinking dance call.
Cut the comic and dramatic
Cut the classic. Cut them all.
Cut the travel! Cut the hotel!
Cut the outfits! Cut the hair gel!
And the waiting! The waiting! The waiting! The waiting!
The waaaaaaiiiiitttttiiiiiinnnnnggggg!
But I know, it will happen
My friends on CC they all told me
Every son and daughter end up where they belong
I’m a find, I’m a catch
Please somebody hold me
It won’t be long now, I guarantee!
“NO” number three.
@ZukAndSowash
Best post of the season so far.
Nice!
Very nice @ZukAndSowash - humor gets us ALL through the rough times!
@ZukAndSowash, that was brilliant!!! I love it!
LOL @ZukAndSowash
@ZukAndSowash. My daughter is playing Fiona this spring. I printed your song out, and didn’t tell her what it was, but told her to read it out loud to the tune of I Know It’s Today. LOL! I think it’s the new theme song around here. She loves it.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I’m happy to spread some laughter into this process!
@ZukAndSowash Brilliant! Thanks for the laugh! My daughter absolutely loved it as well.
For Chicago Unifieds: Does anyone know if CCM, Texas State or Otterbein dance calls will want tap demonstrations from kids who tap? Wondering if we should bring the tap shoes.
I don’t know about CCM because they were “booked up” before my S could schedule his audition (such a bummer), but I know that my S did Otterbein at NY and there was no tap demonstration for the regular MT. There was added dance demonstration for those wanting a dance minor. Also for TXST the information sent says that the Joffrey does not allow hard soled shoes…so that makes me think no tap. Only jazz or ballet shoes are requested. I hope this helps!
CCM did not ask for tap last year. I’m pretty sure S did the who thing in his jazz shoes.
Good morning! Anyone have experience doing Emerson at Chicago Unifieds? They said to block out 4 hours and we did, but that puts D right up against her next audition which is at the Hyatt and not the Palmer House. Did Emerson take the full 4 hours? Thanks!
S had the Monday morning block with Emerson last year. They did the dance call first and then took the kids out of the big waiting room in groups of 5 to wait in the hall for the rest of the audition which was back in the room where they had the dance call. It was a volunteer - whoever was ready first kind of deal. So - if you’re lucky and your kid gets changed fast, you can probably be done in 1.5 to 2 hours. Or - it could take the full 4 if you’re not in line quickly. I would guess you could ask to be at the early end of things too, and they would work with you.
