The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@NewToThis13 My DD auditioned on campus, and they didn’t assign a time slot, but rather allowed the kids to say when they felt “ready” and they took two at a time to wait by the door, so probably can finish quickly if she speaks up to go early.

Wow, really? I have never heard of a live dance call asking for tap. Please elaborate

CCM did not ask for tap when my son auditioned there in Decemeber.

@Notmath1 Pace said if you’re a tapper bring tap shoes, but they didn’t end up having the kids change into their tap shoes. They just had them do tap steps in whatever dance shoes they were wearing.

BTW everyone… someone asked what to do in the evenings. I was thinking about taking my son and wife to Second City one night, but another option is that I noticed that you can get Hamilton tickets directly from the box office for face. There seem to be plenty of tickets for each performance. It will be in Dallas in April (I have tickets) so we are probably going to pass, but I thought I’d pass this on to everyone else.

@CaliMTdreams what kind of tap steps?

@NewToThis13 Let them know when you check in for Emerson. They worked with students last year to make sure students were able to get to their next audition.

@Notmath1 When my S auditioned for Pace (on campus), they allowed the tappers to change into tap shoes and they worked combinations. It was my S favorite dance call of the season!

@artskids My D did not do the tap portion at Pace (beginner and insecure), but she too said it was her favorite dance call.

@Notmath1 @afterp89 @elledaspitzer Pace was my D’s favorite dance call too, I could tell when she continued to practice it lol. They didn’t have her put her taps on, and just asked for time steps and pullbacks!

I do remember my D tapping at Pace, Rider and possibly Montclair. There may have been other schools that I’m not recalling right now. However, I dont think it was high pressure…more of a “if you’ve had tap training, you can participate” but not required. Basic tap steps (I think one school had them do pullbacks in addition to the basic steps, probably just to see what they can do).

@NewToThis13, It looks like we’re on the same schedule, but we have a slightly later audition at the Hyatt. Unfortunately, my D takes forever changing clothes, so she’ll probably go last at Emerson. I’ll be sure to let her know how it works, so maybe she’ll speed thinks up a bit.

If you are a tapper, bring your tap shoes to auditions. My D had 2-3 that asked those to stay to tap…some were walk ins.

@elledaspitzer They did pull backs, time steps, wings.

Same here on CCM. Son thought it was his worst audition so far. Haven’t hear anything yet. On a more positive note, Penn State sent him a deferred email two days after his audition saying they were interested but still had Chicago and LA auditions to go.

At Pace MT there was no required tap in the dance call. For Commercial Dance, they spent almost 1/4 of the time on tap but it was really simple choreo (the other 3 were ballet, jazz, and hip hop).

Hi knowledgeable people!

Does anyone know anything about Indiana University South Bend (IUSB)? They have a BFA/MT concentration, but I can’t seem to find any info on it.

Please feel free to PM me if easier :slight_smile:

Thanks much!

Here’s what I found.

Boston U has something similar. You declare BFA in Acting or Theatre Arts but would then do a concentration in MT. Son’s audition was monologue only. No singing or dancing.

Just got a notice from SUNY Cortland MT via email ( yes!). My S auditioned at NYC unified’s in case anyone else was looking out for this school.

@collegeboundsam Congratulations!

@collegeboundSam congrats! first yes?
