The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

That’s awesome, @KAT67!! We haven’t even filmed pre-screens yet!

@NYKaren We have confirmed BW, PP, Nazareth, CCPA, CCM, U of AL, and Western MI (2 of these confirmed this morning). We’ll be going to Chicago and LA Unifieds, plus a few of them on campus. Waiting on a few others (CAP21 included), and I think we’ll probably be adding Hartt. Then like you said, pre-screen. I feel so crazy listing all of these schools (which is why I didn’t include the “others” that we’re waiting on lol), but the plan is to cast a really wide net. We’ll be doing Nazareth and Point Park in December.

Every time I read a school name on here that I don’t recognize, I’m off to check them out, and wonder if I should add even more schools. I want to make sure that wherever she is (hopefully) accepted that she will be eligible for merit aid, so I feel like we have to get all of the applications in now. Worried that if we do walk-ins that merit aid won’t be available.

@MToverload, When I just got a confirm from Fairleigh Dickerson now. So one more on the books before Christmas! I’m exhausted already! lol! So when are you doing BW and Nazareth? We are going to BW on 11/11 and Nazareth on 11/16. PP will be at NY Unifides. Maybe we’ll see each other on the road!

@NYKaren Nazareth 12/7 and BW 2/24. We wanted November for BW, but just missed it. We could have chosen to be on the wait-list for Nov, but we’re coming from the West Coast so I really need to know definite dates in advance to schedule flights It’s exciting to get all of the dates scheduled, but yes…this is going to be a tiring year! haha.

and I forgot to add that I am just like you! When I see a new school name, I start looking into it as well! Fear of missing out, I guess. Or fear that I didn’t research every possible program that could be right for DS! (insert sarcasm here)

Did you visit Nazareth, @MToverload? When my S did, he fell in love with it and with Prof. Aquilina!

@MToverload - is that University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa? If so, how long did it take to hear back once you submitted the video requirements? She has received her academic acceptance there, but we haven’t sent in the video yet. We’re trying to get that done next week.

Hi! New to posting! I am so impressed that you all have all ready heard back from schools and have auditions on the books. My D has not submitted anything yet. Almost. She wanted to get her prescreens done and then start submitting the applications. Seeing BW’s Nov slots filled up has me crazy nervous but my D says she doesn’t want to rush as she wants everything just right. Hopefully some of you are in the same situation!

@penny1234 I’d encourage her to get her BW ap done ASAP and any other non-prescreen schools that are “top programs”. I’m pretty sure BW’s February audition slots were filled by the end of October last year.

Hi @penny1234 ! Welcome. You’ll be fine as long as you have all your pre-screens in by the due dates. Are all her schools pre-screens? For the non-prescreen schools, she can get her apps in for consideration for academic acceptance if she wants. Some are pretty easy to complete. Good luck with this crazy process of ours!

My D has 2 academic acceptances from rolling admissions, completed 3 live auditions, have PP, Nazareth, WCSU, Wagner and Syracuse auditions scheduled and now we wait on the rest of the pre-screen results to come through. What a process, but am so thankful for having started early! Love all the updates from everyone!

@carriemc95 No, it’s Birmingham - We were looking for programs that get less applicants - casting that net. They will be at Chicago Unifieds, so we figured why not? The videos for schools are killing me - good luck getting yours done! What other schools are you looking at?

@NYKaren No, we haven’t visited any schools yet! What did he like about it? My D can’t wait to actually see some of the campuses in person. And lol about the fear - yep!

I love all the updates too! I’ll update once we have some news! I’ve learned about so many schools I have never heard of!

Hi @NYKaren! When you said submit apps for consideration for academic acceptance- does that mean without the essay portions being completed?

@penny1234 if she is interested in BW or CCM she needs to submit ASAP - THEY WILL FILL UP! I think PP can be done quickly too with no prescreen. She can submit most academic apps before she has to submit videos - some you have to wait for them to send you the link for artistic application anyway.

And my D is already in a school and I still wonder about programs I never heard of! This process can push you over the edge of sanity! LOL

@MToverload - U of AL in Birmingham is called UAB. University of AL in Tuscaloosa also has a BFA MT program (was a BA), but they don’t go to Unifieds. It’s confusing, as they’re both The University of Alabama. Best of luck to you!

Several people have already commented on BW but I just want to confirm it. If you don’t submit early and get your audition spot - you can just cross it off your list. We did submit early but had a glitch when signing up for an audition -by the time we heard back it was full and they told us to choose another day - we did and that was full as well. The end result was we just never got a spot (they did refund us!). So I can’t say it enough - BW fills up extremely fast - don’t delay if it is high on your list.

Hi Everyone! I hope you all can keep me sane during this process. My daughter is waiting for five pre-screen results and I am so nervous! She is fine and I know whatever happens, it will be fine. I just can’t stop feeling anxious.

@penny1234, what I meant was sending in the applications with the essay for the schools so they can get them processed for being admitted to the school itself. For many of these schools, you first have to be admitted to the college and then you make the program when you audition and you are admitted artistically. For some schools (Molloy CAP 21 for instance), you have to submit your application to the school and then you will get a link to schedule your audition after the application has passed academic review. If you submit your application to the school, it gets the process moving. Even with the schools with pre-screens, you can submit your application to the school and just submit your video by the pre-screen due date.

@MToverload, we visited a few schools in upstate NY over the summer during vacation. He loves small campuses, so that was a big plus right off the bat. He clicked with Prof. Corrine Aquilina, the head of the program, right away. He emailed her ahead of our scheduled tour to ask if there was anyone from the department he could talk to after our tour. She got back to him right away and said that she was contacting campus visits to rearrange his day! She had a Junior MT student give us a personal tour, lunch, sit in on a freshman class (they just came back to campus) and then she s
spent an hour with him afterwards talking about the MT program at Nazareth. She introduced him to the head of dance and one of the acting professors. We also got to tour the brand new concert hall that just opened in September! He liked her approach to MT, which is conservatory style in the training and the private voice for all 4 years. She brings in guest directors from the professional world for each production, so there is always someone new to work with and learn from. Also, there is a West End internship available and a Tepper NYC internship available to seniors. They bring in NETC and Straw Hats for summer stock auditions. Honestly, I think he just felt “at home” there. A lot of these programs have similar aspects, but it’s all about fit for your child. He felt “the fit” there. Let’s see…

@MTVTmom, congrats to her on the academic acceptances! Wow! 3 live auditions done already??! That’s awesome. Do you mind if I ask who had auditions available in September? I haven’t come across that! I live right near Wagner and we will be auditioning there as well. If you have any questions about the area or Wagner, let me know. We have PP & Nazareth scheduled too.
