@NYKaren my D did the Summer Intensive Pre-College program at Emerson this summer so she auditioned for them at the end of that program (1), Arcadia (2) and Muhlenberg (3). We just received her audition date for HARTT today too, when it rains it pours I guess :o) Thanks for the heads up about your vicinity to Wagner, will certainly take you up on the offer as we get closer to that one!
I just checked our email and got the Hartt confirm too. We’ll be there on 12/8. Muhlenberg is on our list too. Have to get that audition scheduled. Awesom for your DD!
@CanaDad my D’s experience with BW was that as the (in her case, late Feb) date approached, she moved higher and higher on the waitlist. She remained in contact with them, and continued to move up, from 15 a couple weeks before, to 8, to three, to eventually getting that slot. I speculate that due to the timing, people may have gotten competing offers, caught the flu, or not wanted to travel in winter weather. But, it cannot hurt to remain in contact with them and keep checking in all the way up to your preferred date. I would recommend you do go ahead and book a future date, because they were one of the schools that filled up really early.
We are also headed to Hartt on 12/8. I find it interesting how much more challenging and detailed this process is than it was just 2 years ago with my son. My D is applying to many of the same schools he did, and the prescreen process is now much more involved. Not only do many more schools require a prescreen, but I think there was only one school that he needed to send a dance video to. So even though I kind of know what I’m doing, it’s a completely different and nerve-wracking experience. (It’s secretly still fun, though!) And I absolutely agree with everyone that says “schedule BW and CCM early.”
If you are auditioning for both MT and acting at a school that requires prescreens, do you submit audition videos for both? Or can we do just one?
It usually says in the prescreen instructions
@carriemc95 usually the acting needs an additional monologue
@NYKaren we auditioned in November at Wright State, PP, and Syracuse. CCM I think always does the first week in December. And of course BW but apparently they are full. I’m sure there are more but that’s all we could fit in last year
I am not in MT 2023, but one of my friends is, and she asked me to ask when she should be getting replies about prescreens?
It depends on when you submitted them and if ALL items are in. Some schools won’t look at them until all items are in (like reference letters). We already heard from Carnegie Mellon and UCF.
Elon by 10/10 if fall audition
FSU won’t look at them til Nov
UM by Nov 15
Coastal - should be within 2 weeks of submission but they have been closed for 3 weeks due to hurricane and flooding
Texas State-not sure about that one yet
Shenandoah says 3 weeks from submission date
Pace - says 2 weeks from submission
BoCo- not sure , we haven’t submitted yet.
I know there are more schools with prescreens but I am not familiar with those! Perhaps other members can chime in! Most of the info is on the school website or on the actual submission platform instructions like Getaccptd if you submitted there. BAL to your friend!
It’s so exciting to hear about prescreens filmed, auditions scheduled, etc. My D hasn’t even started filming her prescreens! She thinks it’s fine…I’m feeling nervous about it. I anticipate lots of nervousness on my part during the next few months!
We haven’t either! She didn’t start working on her dance choreo until this week with her instructor. Her first deadline is 10/15 and I’m trying not to panic! LOL. Her school concentrates on Young Arts, so these past few weeks have been dedicated to that. I’m trying to stay calm and not freak out when I see other people posting about passing prescreens! At breakfast this morning I was trying to talk to her about it and got the “I know, mom!” comment…so I just left it at giving her a deadline and saying she must be ready to film by that date and I won’t bring it up again but she better be ready!
Last year during this process my D and I would make coffee shop dates (neutral ground with wi-fi and much needed treats) to go over calendar/budget/travel things. Found myself at our favorite spot just last week reminiscing and missing her so much. Hang in there y’all. You can do this.
We filmed the wild card video yesterday and it was such a fun, laughter filled, happy experience. And then of course I cried when talking about it to my husband because I realize how fast this is all going to go and how soon S will be leaving.
He submitted prescreens to Elon to meet the 9/30 deadline but may refilm the songs before sending them everywhere else. And the unique Syracuse and Ithaca prescreens - we have no game plan yet but I guess that will be the next thing on his list.
@PaperTrope , that is a great idea! I find that I talk about it all the time and it adds to her stress (i’m a planner and a little bit OCD ). Making a designated time to talk MT business will lessen the tension she feels. Some anxiety about this process is already there for her - I don’t need to add to it! Thanks for that “neutral ground” tip!
Having gone through this just last year, I can relate to all of your stress. This is a tough process, period. You will go through ups and downs all year long. For those of you that are still working on college lists, I have to put in a plug for Coastal Carolina where my daughter is currently a MT BFA major. She absolutely loves it! The staff is phenomenal and the opportunities abound! She is already rehearsing for her first show in her first semester of college! She is absolutely in love with her voice teacher and is very happy with her acting and dancing classes! This is what we wanted for her and she’s in it! They have 5 main stage shows a year which is wonderful! They have D1 athletics and a medium sized campus. Many alum are working all over the place as they are constantly posting updates. It’s a small
Program with a prescreens so it is competitive, but I’m here to say it’s worth it!
@anotherBwaymom Coastal is high on my son’s list, so I may PM you (if he passes the prescreens that is)….but of course he needs to finishes recording them first! LOL
@MTlizard Texas State’s timeline is on their website (link below). Before you can get a response to your pre-screen you must: 1. Complete Application to the University; then 2.Apply to the MT program through Acceptd. The absolute deadline is 12/1/18 but I know they have already received quite a few pre-screens. They got their first one in early August I believe.
@lithpool please do when the time comes. Happy to help?
D just found out she did not pass her Pace prescreen. This was the first one she got back and she said she heard somewhere that Pace passes over half of the precreens through to the audition. She is so sad and scared she will not pass any of her prescreens now. I hope she is wrong but I have no idea. Would love some words of wisdom from anyone that has been there.
@MTMom2019 I’m so sorry for your sweet daughter. I think this year is going to be like riding the waves - ups and downs. My daughter found out yesterday that she did not pass Pace either. It seems like such a crap shoot. Who knows why they say yes to some and no to others. Cant’t go down the road of “what if’s” - its a crazy rabbit hole. But if they want to be in this business, they have to learn to accept rejection on a regular basis and not internalize it. (I seriously hate that part). It doesn’t mean she is not talented. It means it is not the right school for her! If this was a biggie for her, have her take a “sad” day. Mourn the loss, watch a sad movie, cry, be sad. 1 day. Then get back up and move on to focus on the rest of this crazy journey. I am looking forward to the in person auditions where they can really meet and see who my girl is! The RIGHT school will see it. Big hugs to you!
