For those of you who received a Syracuse reply, would you please share when you submitted your pre-screen?
Thank you!
@actorparent1 there are a lot of those stories but FSU is very very competitive - and is the only program that my d considered that asked for a classical song. It is considered at least top 15. Very well rounded because they also have a great dance program. My H thought it was too far away and my d is not an opera singer so we didn’t even apply
Oh, thanks for clarifying that, @MTdreamz! That school wasn’t on our radar at all, so I was surprised, since the student got into so many prestigious programs.
your point is not wrong! There are tons of stories like that. I can tell you my d got through PACE pre-screen but did not get in the school, and wasn’t surprised by that after her audition at Unifieds. I know it is a great program but they do like unique kids that stand out beyond their talent. They also have a strict separation between MT and acting - no cross over which some don’t like. You cannot get hung up on every rejection! There will be some now and more later! The worst is watching the joy and confidence drain from your child’s face. Tell them this is how it works - it’s a painful process to find the right place for you! Just push through and keep a backup plan or two in your pocket.
My D also found out yesterday that she did not pass her Pace prescreen. It’s been a rough week. After passing her Syracuse prescreens last week, she has received 3 prescreen rejections this week – Rider on Monday, Pace yesterday, and Ithaca today. I feel your pain.
Is anyone planning on going to MARCAS in November? (Mid-Atlantic Regional College Theatre and Dance Audition)? We’re considering it as kind of a practice audition, and you never know what may happen I suppose. I just can’t find a lot of information about it other that what’s posted on their website…
@2019wolves So sorry to hear that. We all have a long road ahead of us this year based on what I’ve been reading for the last couple of weeks.
@MToverload My D is planning on going to MARCAS for now. She’s registered, but might have a conflict. Our understanding is that some schools use it as a prescreen invitation for the “real” audition and others will actually make offers based off the audition there.
Has anybody heard back from Elon or Otterbein prescreens yet?
@afterp89 Do you know which schools will actually make offers? I read that somewhere else as well, but wondering if schools like LIU and Rider will do so, or if they’ll just say, ok, come do a real audition for us later…
there is no ryhme or reason to this entire process!! My daughter is a freshman mt at CCM. the 3 prescreens she did not pass were UCF, Indiana and Pace. Passed all others…ended up with 24 audition invites (only ended up auditioning for 16 schools and cancelled (withdrew) the rest (except for Michigan) bc she got into CCM in January!! It’s a wild ride for sure. I was thrilled with the 3 prescreens she didn’t pass bc those were 3 schools you have to audition on campus so saved us 3 trips and none of those were high on her list. Good luck to all in the class of 23. Truly your child will end up where they belong.
Elon responds on a set date in Oct. It’s on their website. Otterbein is rolling with their responses I believe.
@goldenslipper We submitted the prescreen on September 18 for Syracuse.
Hello Helpful Parents! What are your thoughts on scheduling of auditions? Does it hurt your child to go to the later schedule ones in late February or March? I am finding it very hard to schedule everything…and waiting on prescreens makes it difficult to schedule trips on top of it!! I have heard that many schools already have most of their students selected by fall auditions if they have them…like BW/Elon. Thoughts?
I do not believe that many of the program have selected their students by the end of fall auditions. For one thing, while some programs accept students on a rolling basis, others wait until ALL auditions have finished before they select anyone in the class. But either way, colleges are not going to bother to hold late winter auditions if their class is full or almost full! Just so you know, my personal anecdote is when my D applied to BFA in MT programs, and she got into quite a few, several of the well known programs she got into, she had auditioned on their last audition date (late Feb. or early March). I would not worry about this.
@MToverload - honestly not sure. At any rate it should serve as good experience.
Elon generally only accepts 2-3ish kids from the Nov. audition dates. The majority get rejections and a handful get defered until the March decision. I do know several kids that got offers from BW before Christmas but again they are just offers. I wouldn’t worry about waiting until Feb. to audition for some of these schools. If your child isn’t ready don’t rush it.
Last year, BW gave out just handful of offers in December - 4 or 5 maybe? The majority of auditioners get a no, and some percentage get “Wait List” which is kind of a deferred decision til March.
@speezagmom - 5 offers could represent up to 1/3 of the class if everyone who was offered accepted them… and I know a couple kids who did that - scheduled a favorite school that notifies in the fall, got offers, accepted them, and then relaxed through the rest of their senior year - sounds like heaven!
Thanks everyone who responded to my question. I appreciate it!
