@pegski Thanks! And same to your son. We absolutely loved OKCU. Everything about it. The facilities. The faculty. The program director. The students. The way they did the auditions. It was just a really fun day. Have a safe trip!
@pegski My D has her OCU audition next weekend as well. My husband is taking her so he can see the area (I saw it last summer). It’s one of her top choices so hoping it all goes well for her and for your son. After this whole process it’s crazy to think there is still “one more audition”. But like @BoolaBoola I wouldn’t have traded this for anything. The prescreen process was the pits, but the auditions and the weekends together have been priceless. Fingers crossed for everyone that their child ends up in their “Happy Place” at the end of all this.
@CaliMTdreams Is your D still doing MT there? My son changed to BFA Acting when he saw the classical/opera components of their MT degree. lol He liked the integration of the Acting and MT BFA there which was completely segregated at CCM. Both appear to be great programs!
@pegski Yes, BM/MT. This school is definitely a fit for her voice. Best of luck to your son with the Acting. My D did their summer intensive last year and really enjoyed it and fell in love with the facilities and the faculty she worked with.
@Guy1996 Last year my son’s acceptance to Hartt was very late - like almost April. He is acting, not MT, so maybe that is different.
@NewToThis13 - I am a parent from last year who is just lurking because I know how anxious all the parents are at this time of year. I am sending everyone good vibes. – I have several friends with kids auditioning this year. LIU Post has been very generous with scholarship money. One boy got and offer and very good money. The girl I know got a full ride offered. I’ve heard their program is new and they are trying to build it.
@speezagmom - You are absolutely right about visiting schools after you get acceptances. When we visited one of my son’s top choices he did not like the vibe at all. Then, visited another top choice and he new that it was the right place for him. – Last April was CRAZY for us. I’m rooting for all your kids and hope you have your frequent flyer miles saved up!
At our hotel, excited for BW tomorrow!
Break legs to all auditioning this weekend!!
@lojosmo - sorry if my question stirred up stress for anyone or angered anyone. Asked the question here because it’s a great source of information and I was honestly concerned. This has been a crazy process with great people and directors but every program is run differently and I thought it might be a possibility that they were taking people as they went along as I’ve heard from other schools in the past. I wasn’t going to call the school because I didn’t want to hurt my child’s chances at the school if it wasn’t true as I hoped it wasn’t. Turns out what I had been told was a version of that information and so I got clarification which I was hoping to get from the CC community. Will be sure to not start future posts with “rumor has it” but “I was wondering if anyone has heard if this is true”. Have a good weekend and best of luck on everyone’s kids auditions & results!
Regarding LIU my D got an extremely generous scholarship last year. So did visit. D was disappointed with lack of facilities & campus being run down compared to how it looked online. So she turned down the BFA MT offer. They came back with a full-ride offer. She was still a hard no. It just wasn’t a fit for her & it’s a newer program. But in a flash it could be the newest jewel. Saw that evolution with Cap 21/Malloy. MT BFA auditions are so competitive it seems like an MT program can get buzz very quickly. So many applicants and too few slots. And it’s proximity to NYC is a big bonus for many.
Molloy/CAP21 is indeed a jewel. Everyone was waiting to see if the legendary CAP21 training had transitioned from NYU to Molloy, and it did… D and her classmates are booking right and left! That’s the measure of a program’s worth, IMHO.
My D and I went to her audition at UNCG yesterday. They have a well-known acting program, but they have brought in Dominick Amendum, artist in residence, music director, to start their MT program. They are accepting 14 BFA Acting and 6 BFA MT students. They indicated everyone should hear by March 15, give or take a day! (I also posted this info in other thread).
UNCG houses their art students in the newly renovated Studio 91. It is very nice and clean. It has practice and dance rooms in the building. There was a young man practicing his trumpet during our tour. It was so nice to hear and see them in use. They have/are renovating their theatres, and their School of Dance is quite beautiful. Their MT students take dance with their dance majors. Lots of positives there.
While my D initially said she only wanted to be in NY or Boston, I am now hearing her say “I would be happy here.” So it is nice to see her coming around and considering all possibilities. It is most definitely a maturing process - even for me. Okay, I have had a meltdown or two ;). Hang in there everyone, and congrats to everyone.
@STHmom thank you for your kind words and encouragement!!
@Kkrazie is that full-ride including room, board and fees or full tuition?
If so I’m kicking myself that we didn’t negotiate for more!!
@mommaofdrama - It sounds like @Kkrazie had to turn down the entire offer before that $ was offered. If your D wanted to go there, that would have been a very risky move. Plus, it’s very hard to compare $ offers to that offered to others. Was this other girl rare/unusual in look, style of voice, home state, financial need, GPA, test scores, etc? You can make you make yourself crazy looking over your shoulder. But, with that said, you can still always call the financial aid office this year and ask what’s currently available to sophomores. Good luck!
Anyone hear yet from the OCU Feb. 1st MT auditions?
@Brecktwins19 - there’s a thread @DramaLlama18 started where the expected decisions dates are listed, it has “OCU —3/8 via email”. Dates aren’t definite unless the school has published them but schools tend to be consistent year to year. You might check the thread for the source of that date. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2125862-class-of-2023-mt-artistic-acceptance-notifications-how-when-where.html#latest
@mommaofdrama & @MomofJ5 The initial Scholarship offer was amazing thus the visit. It wasn’t a negotiating tactic to turn it down. She honestly knew after the visit it was not a fit. At decision time she didn’t want to be in NYC area for college. Decided wants to do NYC later on. But very kind of LIU to tempt her with an even better offer after declining. I just hope that money went to others who had LIU as their top school. Several wanted to go there badly last season. Anyway seems like LIU has a good endowment pot of cash. LIU seems to be building an amazing program. Heard Pace had good scholarship dollars too. NYC Area is expensive. College costs or regular everyday living…Gotta love the Big Apple.
Getting ready for the last audition - Wagner. Feels crazy that this process is almost over and all that’s left is the dreaded waiting.
