Me too! Thanks for following up!
First rejection from Chicago Unifieds. Blach. I opened the letter, and decided to leave it for DS to open when he was ready. Of course, as he was walking out the door for his vocal lesson, DH bellows, “have you checked your mail?” X( Thanks. Of course, it took the wind out of his sails.
Anyway, should he reach out to the schools where he did walk-ins? I’m getting anxious!!
@PuggsleyAddams what school was that rejection from?
I have heard some have already gotten their acceptance calls from OU. Has anyone received a no from them? Just wondering what the notification process is for them…email? And when we should expect it…thx!
Not a no yet for my S. He auditioned in Chicago. Last one of the week on Thursday. He felt like that was his weakest audition.
@pegski, your son is very lucky to have been given the chance! I hope it went well! My daughter was #17 on the waitlist and they didn’t get that far so we had to rescind our application and request our audition fee back.
She was disappointed as the fewer schools you audition for, the less you get acceptances from…but we are hopeful we will get a few options. We only have one MT yes so far and 3 no’s. It’s not doing a lot for her self-esteem. I would love to hear how the BW audition went though. Best of luck to your son.
@mommyMT - the rejections are SO HARD on them. Focus on the acceptances - any Yes is a good yes. She has one and that’s awesome. I hope she gets many more but during this process the nos will generally outpace the yesses so just focus on the yes school(s), support her interest in them and let the other programs be “dead to you”.
@mommyMT I’m sorry she didn’t get the chance because, for my son, it was by far his favorite audition thus far. He was there most of the day and had much more interaction with students and faculty than at most other schools. He knows the odds are still not favorable, but if accepted, it quickly moved to #1 on his list. He said the freshman class performed their showcase for them and the talent was INCREDIBLE! He described the campus as “small but homey”. I begged him not to fall in love with it as I know the heartbreak that could follow. He said he’s put it in his rear view mirror for now as we tackle OCU next weekend to finish auditions off! I think the entire process is getting easier also as he gains confidence from past auditions. It was so new and daunting at his first couple. He was in football and couldn’t do fall auditions, but for others reading along for next year, that would be really helpful to have done some initial auditions in the fall to get a feel for the pressure/process/nerves, ect…
@Jpkcmo I laughed when I ready #3 because if you are a planner then this is not the life for you! At least once your student is accepted into a program, they can plan their life for the next 4 years. However, once you start working professionally there is no planning at all. Since you never know what your next job will be, you don’t know when you will start or where you will be. So that means no making vacation plans or doctor’s appointments unless you are okay cancelling them. Since an audition can come up at any moment or your agent can call and say I need this self-tape of you in 3 hours, any plans you have for the day are gone! You can plan on leasing an apartment in NYC for a year, but if the day after you sign the lease you get a gig in LA, poof goes your plan to leave in NYC. Maybe it is not true for every professional (and probably not for the biggest stars), this has been my daughter’s life since she graduated in 2017. We always tell family we don’t know if she can come to a family event or activity until the day before because if she is cast in something she will not be around. It’s not easy, but it’s her dream!
@mamaboyz your response about the “real world” is spot on!
@jbtcat Thanks:)
From the MT Notifications thread:
@32barMom UNSCA - Rolling notifications out now through the end of this week (“late Feb” - calls to accepted students, email direct to portal for “no” decision.
@Jpkcmo Ithaca - hang in there. Portal down is consistent with past years’ late Feb/1st week of March notification schedule. @Brecktwins19 Fascinating that you have twin applicants where one portal is down and one is still up. You’ve got an interesting perspective for everyone, since you can triangulate results!
@mommyMT OU - rolling notifications - have heard of a few “yes” phone calls, to date
Is OU Otterbein?
@carriemc95 I believe they are referring to University of Oklahoma, known colloquially as OU… at least in the Big XII states.
@carriemc95. No, University of Oklahoma.
Thanks. I was trying to figure it out.
I’m on the struggle bus. Ha!
It’s confusing, because there are several OU’s. Otterbein, University of Oklahoma, Ohio University. Maybe the earlier poster can clarify which one the question about OU’s process pertained to.
But I’ll go ahead and answer what I know about the one of those three that my kid applied to. Ohio has a new MT program this year. D has been accepted academically and into college of fine arts, but no word yet on BFA-MT acceptance. Auditioned at Chicago Unified as walk in. We got a letter today that we thought might be a decision, but it was just a hard copy of a missive we previously received about admission to fine arts. So we wait.
The Big XII states are on the struggle bus (I live in a former Big XII state - Missouri). University of Kansas, University of Oklahoma and University of Missouri (moved to the SEC) are KU, OU and MU respectively.
@32barMom some rejections have went out already. No news is good news!
Hang in there everyone! Still hard to believe we were in your shoes this time last year, just waiting and hoping for a few “yeses”!! This will all be behind you soon and then you will begin the next stage of choosing a program or path that is the best fit for your artist. ![]()
Looking forward to reading all your stories in your final decisions thread!!
