Only that D is “still being considered”
@actorparent1 - 20+ years ago, BFA MTs (most were BFAs in Drama) weren’t common… but they were out there… for example, CCM’s program was founded in 1968. (If memory serves, they make a big deal about being the 1st one)
4angels may I ask where on the CCM application it says pending? My D still has not heard anything either and also emailed on Monday and was told all updates should be made by the end of the week. But I only her portal it only shows “we’ve received all your required items” but nothing about a status (pending, etc). Thanks!
@4angels - see reply/question above
Tempting as it is, don’t burn the sweatshirts and t-shirts from schools that reject your kid artistically just yet, people! In spite of our (okay…my) “dead to us” list during the notification season in March, D did start owning it and wearing them ironically throughout the summer and we’d laugh about our naive optimism the previous year while we were touring the schools. Plus, she has good friends at all those other schools who will be her co-workers and collaborators after graduation. No hard feelings, once all was said and done. I love the exchange idea, though!
I say keep the sweatshirts and paint a red circle with a slash through it over the logo…then wear it proudly! haha
My kid has already given swag away to a friend from a school that did not get an application after an early visit. The friend applied there.
@afterp89 - EXACTLY! I don’t think you can classify ANY school that is requiring an audition as a “safety” school. My son’s first rejection was from the school we thought he had probably the best chance to get into, and his first acceptance came from the one we felt would be the long-shot of the bunch. People just don’t realize that they are ALL competitive.
@LIMTMom - of the “late but great” acceptances from last year - my D is at NYU, @MTdreamz’s D is at Ball State, @actorparent1’s D is at Hartt, @DramaQueen219’s D is at U Arts, @speezagmom’s S is at Molloy/CAP21. The list goes on and yes - they’re all blooming in the spots they won late in the process.
My S decision from Ball State came to us today. No unfortunately. Deferred to creative theater. We will pass.
@MTBackstagemom I hear ya and empathize completely. We now have 6 “no’s” with two of them being in her top 3 programs (we have yet to hear from the third). And zero “yes’s” to break up those denials. And exact same positive audition experiences as you described. My D is handling things much better than I. She impresses me with her tough skin – I clearly don’t have it.
@pegski …or paint a big “rejected” stamp over the logo.
My D has showed a very thick skin and sense of humor about her rejections. I think a big “rejected” stamp is exactly how she would handle it. But I didn’t buy in shirts yet! We were waiting until she picked a school.
@4angels this is not bad news… if you haven’t heard yet, that means you are not a definite “no”
As someone with a D at PPU who has worked at auditions, I can assure you it’s far from a safety LOL.
@CaMom13 thank you!!! All great programs, too!
@actorparent I actually received my BFA in acting from NYU Tisch 30 years ago! At that time Tisch did not have an MT studio, but we all took voice and dance. Although I believe Steinhardt had its MT program. But it was VERY different then - I applied to 6 or 7 schools! I still had to audition but it wasn’t like it is today - no Unifieds, no pre-screens etc.
Even if she auditioned back in January?
@tulsa-mom re: what to do with the swag …“or paint a big “rejected” stamp over the logo”
- maybe a "redirected"stamp would be fun, too!
“…didn’t buy in shirts yet! We were waiting until she picked a school.” - You, my friend, are much wiser than we were. We wouldn’t have even toured half of the schools until artistic acceptance if we could do it all over again. Would have used that time and money to get the audition package ready over the summer and then apply early in the fall.
If I wasn’t so exhausted from this process, I would honestly write a book about the mistakes we made over the last year. She (D) applied to way too many schools, and did the academic applications BEFORE the auditions (in some cases it was required, but not most). She ended up casting a huge net, and instead of deliberately choosing where to travel to live auditions, she auditioned for every possible UNIFIEDs school from her list of choices in Chicago, instead of making a few trips (that we are desperately trying to schedule now) that she has received some acceptances. Academically, she was accepted at every one except the schools who hold results pending auditions, with excellent academic scholarship money. She continues to weekly receive recruitment mail from her top choice, who denied her prescreen a day after she received $80,000 in academic money. Frustrating, but I know she’s lucky to have some offers. Now, she is at a point where she is still waiting, but ended up loving a newer, lower ranked program as much as she loved a highly competitive program to which she was accepted. It’s really tough to push her to make that leap (and accrue 20K/year debt) to a school she loved with a stronger reputation, than to go for free to a program she honestly loved as much, except for the location). Oh lord this is hard. Thank you for letting me vent. This board has been so helpful.
@CTDramaMom trust me, I wanted to SCREAM! I was over the moon happy, excited, and proud of her and he acted like it was no big shocker…UGHH!!
@4angels - if she can go for free to a program she loves - WHOOOPPPPEEEEE! 20K in debt a year will definitely affect her options when she graduates. I think it sounds like you have already found a gem of a school for her. You only need one also means you can only go to one… and choosing one that ensures your child won’t be saddled with excessive debt is win-win!
