The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Another thing to consider, is that once they get into their school and their program with their people - all of this stuff just fades away. Nobody talks about how many offers they had or really cares - they follow all of their growing group of fellow actors in their respective programs and run into each other at summer stock auditions. I think that I held negative feelings far longer than my daughter. Go back to the 2015 thread if you want to hear our tale - but, in those days, frankly, I was one of the first to actually talk about the rejections. CC really has changed and is far more open and more useful now. So, hang in there everyone!

@16or32bars yes, my D is doing the UCF Audition on 3/30. We have talked to them and they are not filling spaces until after that date.

That completely makes sense to me. It’s not the same as med school- where the school can directly impact a starting salary. Also, this program has a fantastic study abroad. We are going to proceed with her last audition, and visit a couple of her acceptance schools- just so she doesn’t second guess herself in the end. The other thing I forgot to mention, is the less known school (which still had a strong presence at UNIFIEDs and rejected a lot of her peers), is not too far from our home. There is an argument for going “far away”. But still, ultimately these kids will be doing that!

@4angels We only applied to one school that let you send in a prescreen before applying academically. Almost all the schools wouldn’t give you a link to artistic app or audition schedule until you applied. So I would think she would have to do that for most anyway but I am curious how many she applied to?!?! At least she has choices!

@MTdreamz She applied to 24. Isn’t that crazy?! But that was the advice we were given. It will actually be funny if she ends up 45 miles from home after all this. But aren’t there a lot of stories like that? I feel like she sent in a lot of prescreens without that requirement of first applying. But maybe I’m wrong.

@4angels That isn’t that crazy for a girl - my d applied to 18 and wished she had applied to more when she didn’t have any BFA acceptances at this point last year… so it depends on your perspective.

My daughter applied to 18 also, and would have done a lot more walk ins if she could have. 24 isn’t too crazy for a girl :slight_smile:

Don’t feel bad @4angels, we applied to 23. She cancelled two of those (the last two) after getting a few early acceptances… & then one of them she did not pass prescreen for and one was non-audition safety… but she did 20+ live auditions (had a few walk-ins on top of everything else) which does kind of seem ridiculous… however now that we have options I’m grateful that we cast a wide net. I could not imagine going through this process and getting shut out, redirected or only having one acceptance. That would be really tough. I can’t wait until all the offers are in and the tables are turned and she will be the one in control.

@toowonderful and @LIMTMom, thanks for that info! I had no idea MT programs have been around that long! I knew that acting programs have been around a long time, but I thought MT BFA programs were much more recent. Live and learn!

@El-Cee I just really wish we would have done more early, on-campus auditions. My idea that we could save money by doing a whole bunch at UNIFIEDs was wrong, because now we literally don’t have the $$ or the time to visit some of the schools where she was accepted. Maybe I’m wrong, but unless it’s Carnegie, I don’t think a student should go somewhere without setting foot on the campus. We have just had too many surprises!

@El-Cee I’ll be at 2020 Unifieds selling t-shirts where you can customize the number and, on the back it will say “not that crazy for a girl”

@DramaLlama18 So funny!!!

Holy sh1t! Holy sh1t! Holy Sh1t!!! Got the call from FSU!

@DadOfMTboy Wow - Congratulations! That is AMAZING!!!

@DadOfMTboy WOOOO HOOOOO!!! Congrats!!!

@4angels - my D applied to only 10 schools in 2014. Two were in CA; one was CMU; the rest were in NYC. She absolutely refused to apply to any school NOT in those areas, then she withdrew her applications to the CA schools. She wanted NYC and that was it; she applied to CMU only because I made her. I am not exaggerating when I say that the stress was almost beyond endurance. People say how much fun they had and how they bonded with their kid during audition season - that was NOT my experience; we nearly killed each other. Out of the 8 schools, she got 2 acceptances, 3 rejections, 1 waitlist and 2 re-directs… and the 2 acceptances were late in the game. I still cannot believe the gamble she took. I would have so loved a wider net - I still have PTSD 5 years later.

@DadOfMTboy fabulous news - congratulations!!!

@DramaLlama18, that is hysterical!! We applied to 18 for a boy, so… :))

@4angels, frankly the schools should let you send in prescreens before applying! But, it’s all a money game unfortunately. I know of 2 that let you send in prescreens before applying – Emerson & Syracuse. We applied to Emerson, but not Syracuse. Emerson puts your prescreen fee towards the app fee once you pass the prescreen. I wonder if that will change over the years. This was the first year they established a prescreen.

@DadOfMTboy, Congratulations to your son!!! Woo Hoo!

@DadOfMTboy congrats!!! So exciting!!
