The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Was hoping for a call from otterbein. Sad day here.

@mauidad, I’m so sorry. It’s so rough when you know the calls are going out and the phone doesn’t ring. Hoping for some good news for you.

So sorry, @mauidad Sending positive vibes your way.

@mauidad Waiting on Otterbein too :frowning:

D just missed a call from IWU. She’s performing in her spring play. yikes

My D was high school class of 2014. Even then, kids applied to fewer schools She applied to 6 (we were so dumb! and ultimately lucky). She ended up with 2 acceptances, 2 waitlists and 2 no’s. The waitlists were dream schools and didn’t pan out. The acceptances came 3/15/ and 4/1 so you can imagine the stress in our house. From what I know now, you can expect most of the notices to be no’s but a few will be yesses and that is all it takes. My D chose a lessor school over a top 5 and will be debt free. But it wasn’t completely about the money. She liked the city and the fit better at the school she is at. Will it affect future chances? I don’t think so, but I don’t know. I do know she has grown tremendously as an artist and has been very, very happy. I would definitely consider everything, not just a name, when deciding. The top 5 school enrolls 50 MT’s so every school audition has 200 kids vying for a few roles. we spoke to students who had never been cast in a show and that wasn’t how she wanted her college experience to be. She knew it was really about the training, but she also wanted a realistic chance to perform. I think she has found that balance and is about to graduate. The time went so fast! She doesn’t remember any of the audition season tears (and there were plenty. One school she had a relationship with said, “see you in the fall,” and then flat out rejection. Not even a waitlist. She almost cancelled later auditions and it was a good thing she didn’t.
I am hoping every day that your child ends up in the perfect spot. Have faith.

High school class of 2016 here. To add to comments about waiting- D didn’t get her first yes till Mid-March. Then got a couple in a row. But I remember the torture of waiting- it was truly horrible. Hang in there! Know those who have come before are cheering you all on!

Is it bad that I have taken to rearranging my work schedule so I can be home between 3 and 4, when the mailman comes? Today we got a sample ballot for our upcoming local election, an overdue bill, and some nice coupons for Target, I must say that my disappointment was palpable. And what’s worse, I’m too embarrassed to tell my wife or S that it’s gone this far. Somebody send help!

Ugh, my kid was also hoping for IWU.

USPS informed delivery is our new friend!

@“boola boola” That’s hilarious! Do you know about Informed Delivery? It’s a free service by the US Postal Service. Every morning, you’ll get an email with scanned images of the mail that will be delivered to you that day. Pretty cool!

@love2share Yes, I know about it, but it’s not available at our address — in a major metropolitan area. Oh sure, it’s available in our zip code, just not at OUR house. Clearly some foul conspiracy is afoot! So, I figure I have no choice but to be at home in the mid to late afternoon each day. Right? Clearly, I need an intervention.

@“boola boola” Aw, that’s too bad. I know it’s hard not to obsess about the daily mail. People suggest making yourself busy with other projects so you don’t obsess.

@mauidad last year IWU notified accepted students by snail mail.

This is brutal. All in this together

@mauidad she has a few more friends waiting on them.

@“boola boola” I’ve been sick this week, and working from home, but I’ve been taking advantage of being home to check the mailbox often.

High School Grad Class of 2015 checking in … my beautiful daughter didn’t even AUDITION at the school she ended up at (and will graduate in 2 months - holy cats!) until mid March.

Hang in there y’all!!

I feel for you guys … but truth be told I’m a smidge jealous that your kiddos college careers are just starting and mine is wrapping up. :((

@Tulsa-Mom Oh, how lucky to be sick right now ?

@KaMaMom - I remember your D’s journey. Guess what… you’re about to embark on a new journey called “Post-Grad MT Life: Be Careful What You Wish For, You Got It.” It’s the quest for a spot in a MT program, on steroids. Welcome!
