The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@LIMTMom D was accepted to CC around noon. Email.

@mommyMT We applied remote audition to three colleges for MT and was accepted to both (U Tampa and Catholic U) and waitlisted to another (Western Carolina). So it does work. But I imagine it depends on the strength of the video and the needs of the school. It is certainly worth a shot.

A quick ‘hello’ from a Southwest Florida senior! Good luck to all your kids/students during the decision season.

Here’s my rant for the day. My D auditioned at a particular school and even before the rejection came she wasn’t feeling it. Doubt she would have considered going even if it was her only artistic acceptance. She has written twice to her admissions counselor stating she is longer interested in wanting to attend and would like to withdraw her application. They are constantly sending emails, mailings to not only her but both myself and her father. They have responded to her requests with oh but look at all we have to offer. Let tell you hounding us is not the way to make my D change her mind!

Congrats to all on the ShenCo, TCU, and CCU acceptances!

@ZukAndSowash I do agree that Montclair isn’t Tier 1 like CMU and Michigan. I personally don’t know why some schools offer in-state, and I think your explanation makes sense. There was a Montclair visitation day for NJ kids, and this was prior to auditions. I don’t think any of us knew at that point in time what we were getting ourselves into. Many people probably thought my kid will go to Montclair, like all kids in NJ and get this great tuition (LOL). Montclair Director talked about many NJ kids won’t get into MT. The explanation was about an outreach for diversity. I wonder how people would’ve received they type of explanation you offered. Maybe it’s a little of both.

@ZukAndSowash I totally agree with you on all of this. Just curious- what schools do you think are tier 1, 2, etc. We can’t find anything but blog posts!

@MTSongbirdMom unsubscribe to the email. I did that for my D.

Has anyone gotten their FSU rejection yet? Do they notify students who did not get in?

@4angels I’m willing to put in my two cents on some controversial topics, but I’m not going to commit CC suicide and answer that question!

@FROG65 I did but I was still getting them?? Maybe she needs to also? Thought she did. But many are personal communications that don’t have an unsubscribe option. I just moved on to blocking all email from them. But imho the school should have respected her decision.

@mauidad Who?? Dead to me. ? (but no, nothing)

When did you hear from Catholic U? My D is still waiting to hear.

No FSU official rejection but my D friend who is in the program sent a screen shot of the class of 2023 and she was not on it,

Hahahaha @ZukAndSowash ! I think sometime this summer when all the nerves are less frazzled we should all jointly attempt a list of “which schools really are harder/less hard to get into”. I feel like it’s a taboo subject and I get why… but it’s also so frustrating for applicants when they feel they should have a balanced list but no one will commit to any opinions as to what tier of difficulty each school belongs in. And, of course, it gets harder at some places each year. Now is definitely NOT the time for that discussion!!!

@MD1235628 - I can guarantee that screen shot was bogus - created by a student. Calls may have been made but schools don’t publish their class member lists until after May 1, if at all.

@CaMom13 - Actually, that isn’t quite true. I have been at several schools where the accepted students are either listed or displayed at the school for the department to see. Now that isn’t to say it is the “final” class of those who have accepted their offers- but it is done.

@CaMom13 the issue with even doing it in the summer, is that once you go down that path… you’ll list a school as Tier 3, that someone’s kid got into and considered a Tier 1A… or something along those lines. I think we all have our ideas based on where our kids want to go… so I think that is where that sleeping dog should lie.

Just my $0.02.

Okay - I can see that. I was thinking of the “Class of 2023” banners that all the students love to display. Internal lists, I can see … but I’m surprised to hear the students can access it.

I think it’s a way to get the current students excited for the incoming students. Saw it quite a bit actually.

Yeah, I totally don’t agree @TexasMTDad. I’m big on data and hard data is useful when selecting/considering schools. But you can’t collect the data without asking who knows what because schools definitely don’t publish it. You can get that data for academic schools from their common data set but the only way to have any idea in the performing arts is to ask.
