@ayecollegekid1 According to my notes, Point Park has sent notifications in the past via email around 3/13 or 3/14.
So yesterday’s email from BW was around lunch time, think today will be the same?
Anyone else hear from CCU today?
@RosaMT - does Joe do any teaching? Does Robert? Do they host any masterclasses with industry members?
@NoMTinMD as has been mentioned I also know it is a “great problem to have”…but admittedly still a problem we can relate to. There is only so much money and TIME to make visits…and schools are not necessarily close enough to each other to do a big sweep. Interesting times…that are bound to get more and more interesting as the days go by.
@ayecollegekid1 and Point Park notifies everyone - admitted, rejected, waitlisted - all on the same day, via email. At least that’s how it’s been the past few years.
@NoMTinMD We heard BW will send emails at 4:45 or 5pm today. I don’t know where that info came from or how accurate.
@32barMom The students are from New Hampshire, Georgia, several from Texas, and maybe a couple from around here. We know of only two local girls accepted this year and several rejections. Also- they do showcases in NY and LA. The program directors are very connected all over the country.
BW emailed last year late in the day so I think that time period @FROG65 mentioned is accurate
@32barMom - Robert does teach, and has directed one of the musicals each year. I honestly don’t know if Joe teaches or not since this is his first year there…I just know that my D didn’t have him for anything this year. They do have masterclasses - just had one this week with the National Tour of The Lion King!
I saw the touring company of Rent last night and the performers came from Uarts (2) Ryder (2) Otterbein, NYU, the New School, SUNY Buffalo, Point Park and a bunch that had BA’s in academic subjects. No CMU, CCM, BOCO, Ithaca. It was amazing. Couldn’t believe the talent. I am posting this because I want people to know that stars can come from anywhere and that I believe that the training a performer gets at any school is the true value, not the name or price tag. That’s why sitting in on classes and asking questions about the dance program, private coaching, etc. are so very important. As are questions about how the school supports alumni. Do they teach them how to approach the business? How to find auditions? These are the things that matter.
BW sent the emails at close to 5:00 pm last year.
Wanted to just make a suggestion to those people who have multiple acceptances & are trying to determine how they will make a decision & what factors need to play into making a decision on what program to choose.
So my D who is currently finishing her sophomore year in an MT program has decided to switch majors. After much indecision, tears & long conversations trying to make sure she indeed wanted to, she is switching in the fall.
What has been a nice feature of where she attends school is it is a large university that offers a LOT of other majors & tons of opportunities in those majors. So my D is not transferring schools. She was more then able to find a major easily as she had a lot to choose from that were of interest to her & already targeted the interests she has. Transferring is of course always an option but it’s a royal pain & nice to be avoided if possible. Plus my D likes the school she’s at , has made lots of friends both MT & not and is in a sorority etc where she is actively involved.
My point is , even though this is perhaps incomprehensible to many of you now at this crazy in the thick of it stage ,to think your child may not stay in MT , there is always the possibility they may not be in it as a major for the long haul of 4 yrs. my D is not the same person she was when she left my house as a senior. She is switching for many reasons which I won’t bore you w/ here but my point is it might be nice if your child has a choice between a very small strict BFA school that doesn’t offer much in the way of minors , other majors or broadening your interests down the road ( I.e. U Arts type school) and you have an acceptance from a larger or more broad less restrictive program & that perhaps both offer excellent training that your child would be happy with… perhaps choose the school with some options IN CASE … just in case.
I too did not think my D would switch. I could see a little writing on the wall last year but not a lot. She is the same as your kids I’m sure , performing since elem school, singing since age 5 etc…MT has been a huge part of her & our family’s life. Luckily she knows that she can always perform without MT being her major. She is actually more into going to audition & sing etc now knowing it is not her bread & butter anymore & she is not under such pressure to get cast etc
Just a thought to keep in the back of your mind when touring schools & trying to decide. What does the school offer in other areas , not just the theatre dept? I know that’s why you’re there but things can and do change for some students .
Illinois Wesleyan has announced 1.1 million in cuts. Included in those cuts are retirement incentive plan, merging some departments and reducing visiting facility. " adjustments will be made each year until we meet a balanced and sustainable budget". The full article can be found in today’s Bloomington Pantagraph online
Wow @theaterwork! That must have been a very, very difficult decision. Best of luck and hugs to your D!
@NoMTinMD acceptances today at 4:45 eastern.
Yes it was @artskids . Lol
Lots of discussion to say the least. It seems to be the best decision for her however & she is already psyched up for the new classes & change. She already has a paid internship lined up for this summer in the new major with a theatre related organization so that’s been a blessing . It’s also helpful that she already has a theatre minor w/ the classes she’s already taken.
@RosaMT Have you heard when Missouri is sending decisions, by any chance?
This Limbo-zone really bites. I can’t wait until my D has all of her offers on the table and we can begin to really assess them. It is too hard with the jury being out on half her schools to even start entertaining the offers she does have. I know many of us are in this boat, I just didn’t anticipate how gut-wrenching it would be to wait this out.
Not really stressing much about BW today (well my wife is because she loved it there). D and I just viewing it as a lottery ticket. Amazing surprise if you “win” a spot.
